NOTES FROM THE PASTOR
Reflections on Thirty Third Sunday of the Year: In today’s Gospel Jesus makes it clear that we are not to be afraid
of the Kingdom of God. Signs of the Kingdom of God are already among us. Do we recognize some of these signs and
do these signs give us anxiety or hope? The readings today are encouraging us to persevere in our faith, hope and
love. These three theological virtues are qualities that must be strong in the life of a disciple of Jesus.
The Gospel today is encouraging us to look beyond the immediate. We must work for God’s kingdom with justice, com-
passion, mercy and concern for others. Perseverance and endurance are necessary for the future as well. We can
make a difference witnessing to Jesus in a world of confusion. In the end the faithful will be united with God as God’s
gift of everlasting life is for those who are faithful.
Thanksgiving Mass: On Thanksgiving Day the daily Mass will be at 8:30 A.M. instead of the customary 9 A.M. to
give all a chance to give praise to God by attending Mass and then arriving at their desired destinies.
Thanksgiving Project: As has been the custom here once again this year the parish will be collecting non per-
ishable canned goods for Thanksgiving to give to Our Daily Bread to help others who need help for Thanksgiving.
Please place the can goods at the rear of the Church.
Ministries at St. Bartholomew Parish:
One of the many blessings of our parish is our volunteers. We have a ministry for every person and the more people
involved the happier our parish is. We are starting to hear people involved in ministries share their experiences. This
weekend Jeff Summers will be speaking about the ministry of Lector. Our hope is that more people after hearing these
witness talks will be inspired to come forward. The whole parish as well as ourselves benefits from greater involvement.
God invites us to share our talents with others which also helps us to refine and develop God’s blessings in our lives.
Please consider becoming a Lector at Sunday Mass.
Next weekend the second collection throughout the Archdiocese is for the retired religious sisters of our Arch-
diocese. Since 1988 this collection has provided needed financial support for religious communities that have
served the Archdiocese as educators, health care and social service providers. Many of us have greatly benefited from
these wonderful religious orders. Please be as generous as your means allow.

Theme for November:
The theme for November is the path to everlasting life. During this liturgical year we as a Catholic Church have celebrat-
ed the Year of Mercy which will be ending on November 20, 2017 the last week of the liturgical year. This week our
theme within the context of the path of everlasting life is mercy and forgiveness. Each of us in life from time to time may
have been hurt by others or we may have hurt others. This is a good time of the year to look at this and see if it is possi-
ble to let go of past hurts and to pray that others will forgive us.
Some of our loved ones or others who may have been called home to God may have hurt us or we may have hurt them.
This is a good time to look at the joys and the good they have done and try to let go of the pain and in prayer ask for
forgives.
May I suggest also that we bring this to God in prayer seeking His guidance and consider the Sacrament of Reconcilia-
tion (Confession).

omew Adult Choir sings every Sunday at the 9:45am

STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE Sharing: Time Talent Treasure “DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME” What a magnificence gift from God--MEMORY! How ours lives would be so different if all we saw, were taught, or imi-
tated in our learning growth years were promptly forgotten. How much joy and happiness memory gives us as we recall,
sometimes with great clarity, our lives, our families and friends, our education, our emotions, our experiences. And how
happenings that are, at a certain time seemingly painful, can fade or become unimportant with time. Just ask the mother
who painfully gives birth and within moments of seeing and holding her new born, her pain diminishes and is often for-
gotten. God’s many gifts that comprise our humanity can sometimes be a jumble but then get sorted out in our memory.
We can try to wipe out a memory, if we wish to, and then we think it is gone. But if we wish to recapture it, it will come
back. Memories are not lost, only displaced. The mechanics of memory are miraculous. How could we truly know our God without our memories? Knowing our ability for distraction, we are constantly remind-
ed in Jesus’ stories (parables), His actions, His voice telling us how to relate (pray) to Him and to the Father. ‘Only
through Me can you know My Father.’ Only through Him can we know of eternity; can we know how to properly live
our lives; can we know of His life, His Way; can we know the Bible. We see; we read; we listen; we remember. We
can walk away, but we still remember. Memory like life in all other parts of the body can change. Age, disease, disability, and many other influences can affect
our memories. This can be bothersome and stressful. We know we know but we just cannot seem to access the
thought that we are trying to recapture. This too is one of God’s teachings. We must value, appreciate, recognize what
we have when we have it . We must use and treasure a gift and not put it away, little used, and then try to take it back
and expect that time has done no damage. “DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME” - the beautiful words spoken at Mass in the consecration reminding us always of Jesus’
life and death for us--everyone of us individually. We are reminded always that He is our Savior, the Son of the living
God. Should we think that we have forgotten Him in this very busy, distractible life, He is patient, forgiving, and will wait until
we remember that He always remembers us--every hair on our heads. Stewardship Questions: Kathy Reilly 781-444-0862 email: [email protected] If anyone needs a ride to a church service or wishes a home or Communion visit, please contact me.
