Renew My Church Overview of Scenarios for the Lakes Region grouping (St. Bede Parish & School, St. Peter Parish, Prince of Peace Parish & School, St. Raphael the Archangel)
We are soliciting feedback from you as to the strengths and weaknesses of the three initial scenarios presented by the Archdiocese of Chicago.
The archdiocese generated these initial scenarios by applying our grouping’s local realities to a set of the following criteria:
Based on the projection of pastors in the future, parishes will need a minimum of 600 parishioners (based on the October count) attending Mass each weekend to be assigned a full time resident pastor.
To ensure quality resources for worship, pastoral care, religious education, and evangelization, parishes ordinarily will have a justly paid, professionally trained staff team. On average, a parish will need a minimum operating revenue of $500,000 (excluding rental income) to support staff and services.
Balanced workloads for priests, including sacramental life, pastoral care, and parish administration.
Parish financial stability and adequate, accessible and safe facilities with capacity for growth.
School vitality and financial stability.
We Need Your Input! We invite you to come to our next “Parish Conversation”: Tuesday, October 3rd in the Faith Formation Center Gym to learn more and share your feedback and input.
The following three scenarios are for the four parishes and two schools. The differences between them are as follows:
Scenario A: Two Parishes, Four Active Worship Sites: St. Bede, St. Peter, and St. Raphael would form a combined canonical parish. All three churches would remain open for regular worship under the combined parish. A combination of St. Bede, St. Peter, and St. Raphael would bring together approximately 2,200 people, based on weekend Mass attendance, and $1.8 million of church operating revenue. Prince of Peace would retain a full‐time resident pastor and remain a canonically independent parish, with approximately 1,500 people, based on weekend Mass attendance, and $975K of church operating revenue. Each parish and pastor in this scenario would retain responsibility for one school.
Scenario B: Two Parishes, Four Active Worship Sites: St. Bede and St. Peter would form a combined canonical parish. Both churches would remain open for regular worship under the combined parish. A combined parish of St. Bede and St. Peter would bring together approximately 1,500 people, based on weekend Mass attendance, and $1.4M of church operating revenue. Prince of Peace and St. Raphael would form a combined canonical parish. Both churches would remain open for regular worship under the combined parish. A combined parish of Prince of Peace and St. Raphael would bring together approximately 2,200 people, based on weekend Mass attendance, and $1.4M of church operating revenue. Each parish and pastor in this scenario would retain responsibility for one school. Scenario C: Three Parishes, Four Active Worship Sites: St. Peter and St. Raphael would form a combined canonical parish. Both churches would remain open for regular worship under the combined parish. A combined parish of St. Peter and St. Raphael would bring together approximately 1,500 people, based on weekend Mass attendance, and $1.1‐1.2M of church operating revenue. This combined parish would not have a school. St. Bede would retain a full‐time resident pastor and remain a canonically independent parish, with a community of over 700 people, based on weekend Mass attendance, and church operating revenue of over $650K. The parish and pastor would retain responsibility for St. Bede School. Prince of Peace would retain a full‐time resident pastor and remain a canonically independent parish, with a community of approximately 1,500 people, based on weekend Mass attendance, and $975K of church operating revenue. The parish and pastor would retain responsibility for Prince of Peace School.

Have you missed any Sacraments? Want to receive them? Would you like to become a Catholic?
R.C.I.A. — Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a process for adults interested in learning more about the Catholic faith in order to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. This process is for all women and men who are not baptized or baptized in another Christian church and in need of further instruction or initiation, or those baptized in the Catholic Church but needing more instruction to complete the sacraments of initiation. Persons never baptized are referred to as catechumens, while those previously baptized are called candidates. Classes begin in the fall of 2017 in the Faith Formation Center Library. For more information, please contact Mark Buckley at 847‐587‐2301.

Visit the Church Library
Looking back at last November’s elections, here’s a book that looks at politics from a religious perspective: “God’s Politics” (in the Reference section). The author argues that
America’s separation of church and state does not require banishing moral and religious values from the public square. God’s Politics offers a vision for how to convert spiritual values into real social change. The library is located in Coleman Hall. To sign out a book, just put your name, date (month/day/year) and phone number on the card (located on the book’s inside cover) and put the card in the “Signed Out Books” holder. When returning the book, put it on the shelf marked “Returns” and we’ll replace it in the library.

Peaceful Heart
While you are proclaiming peace with your lips, be careful to have it even more fully in your heart.
— St. Francis of Assisi
Families and the Gospel — Twenty‐sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
In today’s gospel Jesus asked, “What is your opinion?” Why do we think our opinion is dogma or fact? An opinion is only how we perceive a situation or how we feel comfortable doing something. Don’t argue over or become divided by “your opinion.”
— by Bud Ozar
