Mission Statement

‘A School with Heart’

Where we are inspiring, challenging and nurturing one another to:

…..live from the heart, love from the heart, learn from the heart

Dear Community

ASSESSMENT & REPORTING

As you are aware, Reports were sent home today.

In last week’s newsletter I placed information

regarding your child’s School Report and how you

react to them. The students take their cues from

your reaction and this will affect the way they see

themselves as learners and as people. Here are

some questions to consider:

Have you read all the information provided

about the A-E common grade scale?

Do you feel comfortable with the A-E grading

scale [Year 1-6],the 3-point scale for

Kindergarten and understand that it is very

different from the ‘old’ style you had at school?

Are your expectations for your child in line with

their abilities?

Do you expect too much from your child?

Are your expectations realistic?

Do you hold the belief that children learn at

different rates?

Are you willing to safeguard your child’s self-

esteem rather than deflate it?

How much of the A-E grades are you going to

reveal to your child?

Sadly we must farewell two of our students at the end of the term. Sienna Conroy, Year 3, is

leaving St Bede’s and will attend school in Canberra. We also farewell Emilio Rojas-Terry who is

also moving to Canberra with his family. We wish Sienna & Emilio all the best for the future.

Semester 1 Reports – Today

Yr 3 – Invites to book launch

Please keep in your prayers all families from St Bede's who may be excited about travelling over

the holidays or may be at the other end of the spectrum and be experiencing difficult times. We

can never be sure how those around us are feeling and by asking "how are you?" to another

parent that you may not know that well, you may make a difference. Keeping St Bede's a school

with heart is not just for the students!

Students return for Term Three Tuesday 15 July.

Yours in Christ

Gerard

Our Indigenous Units of work in all classrooms this term have drawn to a climax with the reflection on and celebration

of Naidoc and Immigrant and Refugee weeks. These have been the focus of our Peace Room activities and our end

of term assembly, to be held on Thursday.

This reflection is important to not only our children but also the families of our school community. In the words of Pope

Francis …. “We need, for example, to recover a certain sense of deliberateness and calm. This calls for time and the

ability to be silent and to listen. We need also to be patient if we want to understand those who are different from us.

People only express themselves fully when they are not merely tolerated, but know they are truly accepted. If we are

genuinely attentive in listening to others, we will learn to look at the world with different eyes and come to appreciate

the richness of human experience as manifested in different cultures and traditions.”

This is the essence of our Catholic faith, experiencing humanity from differing perspectives whilst reinforcing the

importance of maintaining and developing our

relationship with God through our interactions

with others.

Have a wonderful Holiday, May Peace be in your homes, Ann

Lost Size 10 new woollen jumper has Coe’s name on label – parents are asked to check to all labels on their children’s clothing.

Prayer Dear Lord,

Help us acknowledge that different people live in this country. Help us to remember their cultures and be proud of it.

Let us remember that we should all be proud of who we are. I hope that everyone will learn to accept each other as part of the

community. Amen.

Last Tuesday, St Bede's Staff were privileged to complete a professional development afternoon/evening with Ms Ange Casey from the National Museum of Australia. She worked with us enabling us to familiarize ourselves with the History document of the Australian Curriculum. This curriculum encourages teachers to make use of artifacts to facilitate our teaching. Ange brought several artifacts for staff to view and plan some learning that could flow from these pieces. It was a wonderfully enlightening session. She also told us about some “local” history and alerted us to this sign. It appears on the Braidwood Road approximately 16 kms from Goulburn. If you’re driving past in the holidays, perhaps stop and view the sign for yourselves. It may just spark some “historic” discussion.

Fundamental Movement Skill - Stationary Dribbling

This is a skill used in basketball and other playground games. Ask your child to show you how

to dribble at home. Bigger balls are easiest to practise with. When stationary dribbling it is

important to:

Hold the ball about belt level in one hand.

Push the ball down with the fingertips, not the palm.

Make sure the ball hits the floor in front of or beside the preferred foot.

Calling all Redbacks and lovers of the game they play in heaven

Brumbies V Waratahs. All Redback players and families are invited to watch this much anticipated clash at

the Braidwood Servicemen’s Club, Saturday 28 June. This is the first Saturday of the holidays. Please arrive

6:00pm for 6:30pm free BBQ with the game to start at 7:30pm. Please arrive early so that numbers can be

countered and catered for. Brumbies by 8.

Aussie Footy

This week all classes concluded a term of AFL skills or Aussie Footy. Certainly the older classes enjoyed

the final weeks where games were played with a pleasing degree of skill shown. Younger classes played

modified games that comprised of running, kicking and hand-balling. I have asked that student try and

watch even 10 minutes of an AFL game to see where their new skills may take them. Thanks for a great

term! Mr G

The Northern Region Athletics Carnival is on Thursday 24 July in Goulburn. Notes are due back please.

Parents are also asked to consider how their child will travel to and from the venue. Students wishing to

withdraw from an event or who may be unable to attend should have informed Mr Galvin by now. Please

see Mr G tomorrow if you have any concerns as the squad will be emailed by lunchtime Friday.

Student events are posted near the Front Office. Those competing in discus or shot can see Mr G for

equipment to practice leading up to the NR Carnival.

Happy Birthday to: Declan Sullivan, James Castro, Mia Corey, Miah Gunderson, Nicholas Allen.

Students bringing iPads from home as a learning device

St Bede’s is exploring the idea of students bringing a personal iPad as a learning device from 2015 however

much work and discussion needs to happen before this can occur. Parent information will be sent home

once more details are available. Students without an iPad will not be disadvantaged. If you are

considering a mobile device e.g. tablet or iPad for your family, household or child or would like to know

more, please contact a member of the Community Council or a staff member. A deal of infrastructure will

need to be in place before this can happen with the preferred option being iPads at this stage.

Thank you these parents who have replied to our request to help with CC tasks:

Guttering on old shed -Craig Coe

Rotary Hoe under play equipment -Craig Pettit

Hedging plants near car park -Richard Walker

Box around gum tree on ovals -David Wilkinson
