Sending our Folks to the Cathedral Next weekend our parish community will send some of our very own folks to the Cathedral to be elected for the Sacraments of Initiation. During the 8:30 Mass on March 3 our parish community will hear the requests of those who are asking for Baptism. In the Rite of

Sending Catechumens for Election, we will hear about how God has been working in their lives and we will pledge to support them. Please pray for our catechumens as they are meeting with their parish sponsors to discern their readiness for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.

We pray for our catechumens, and for catechumens throughout the world, that they may be guided by the Holy Spirit and come in due time to join with us in the one Body of Christ. Our catechumens are:

CREATION CARE TEAM Mother Earth is groaning under the weight of our waste! It is time for each of us and all of us to take notice of our own response to her cries! There is no time better than Lent to accept our part in becoming aware and taking some kind of

action to relieve some of the stress Mother Earth is feeling.

There are so many ways to begin. Bring the question to your family. What more can we do to create a cleaner, stronger and healthier environment? Perhaps this could be your Lenten promise - as individuals or as a family. A couple of ideas to begin with - Our computers and tablets are filled with stories of what others are doing to help Mother Earth. Perhaps reading one of those stories with your family will encourage thoughts or ideas of ways to help. Simple things like reducing your use of plastics; refusing styrofoam cups when they are offered; or how about simply beginning by praying for the Holy Spirit to guide your family in a direction that will help you to be more thoughtful. God gave us this world to care for and it's time for all of us to do our part.

SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

10 Things a Disciple of Jesus Does – The Archdiocese of Indianapolis is

asking parishioners of each parish to provide input for a resource that will help make

missionary disciples throughout the eleven deaneries of our Church. Here’s the

background:

One of the most widely-used resources ever produced by the Archdiocese was an item

called 10 Things We Want You to Know About the Catholic Faith. Over 50,000 copies of

this resource, in English and Spanish, have been distributed to people throughout

southern and central Indiana. A companion resource, to complement the one

mentioned above, will be called 10 Things a Disciple of Jesus Does.

To help create this new resource, the Archdiocese is asking you to answer three

questions. You’ll find those questions in the bulletin insert on the next page.

There are 4 ways you can respond to the questions:

1. Go to the next page of the bulletin. Write your answers on the paper and return the page to the collection basket. Or, mail it to the parish office, 111 S. 9th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807.

2. You’ll receive an email version of the questions later in February and you can return your responses via email.

Go to SurveyMonkey and complete the questions. We’ll send the link next week or you can

go there now:

www.surveymonkey.com/r/YKY5G55

Join us for a Soup & Bread Lunch on the First Sunday of Lent – On Sunday, March 10, after the 11:00 Mass, the Faith Formation Committee is hosting a Town Hall Meeting to discuss these questions. Please, join us as we discuss the thought-provoking questions while we enjoy some soup and fellowship!

Last, the Archdiocese is asking representatives from St. Ben’s to join with folks from the other Terre Haute Deanery parishes during the Lenten season. We are asked to compile a deanery response and submit the final input to the Archdiocese.

Thank you for participating in this exciting endeavor which will help our Church make more missionary disciples!

Page 6: St. Benedict Church Terre Haute, Indiana … · 2019-09-19 · St. Benedict Church Terre Haute, Indiana February 24, 2019 2/24 SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Religious Education,

Please help the Archdiocese of Indianapolis create a new resource

entitled, 10 Things a Disciple of Jesus Does. Write your answers in the

space below and return this page to the Sunday collection basket, or

mail it to the parish office, 111 S. 9th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807.

Thank you for your time and input!

• Think about a devoted disciple of Jesus in your life. What is it about their lives that captures

your attention? What qualities does he or she have?

• What key behaviors and habits do disciples of Jesus have? What sort of things do you

do because you are a disciple of Jesus? What kind of things do you not do because of

your disciple relationship to Jesus?

• How is your life different because of your disciple relationship with Jesus?

Putting Our Faith into Action Catholic Relief Services (CRS)

CRS responds to Latest Indonesian Tsunami. December 22, 2018, a deadly tsunami struck Indonesia’s western Java and southern Sumatra islands. The tsunami, which hit the islands without warning, was related to the ongoing eruption of the Krakatoa volcano. More than 400 men, women and children lost their lives. Less than three months earlier a magnitude 7.5 earthquake and resulting tsunami killed more than 2,000 people on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, leaving more than 10,000 seriously injured and about 1.5 million affected. Earlier in 2018, other quakes impacted different areas of Indonesia. Led by local organizations, CRS’ response to the latest tsunami addresses people’s immediate needs – like food and temporary shelter – while also considering the longer-term recovery from this disaster for people who will need years to rebuild their lives, homes and communities. Learn more at www.crs.org/media-center/news-release/indonesian-tsunami-December-2018.

PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE OF INDONESIA

LORD OF LOVE, Without warning, the sea swells, the waves crash the shore, and our brothers and sisters cry out.

Help us reach out to the people of Indonesia to hold them fast, as You hold Your children fast. Comfort those who mourn. Give strength to those who must rebuild lives and homes.

As we hold these neighbors in the love of our hearts, we lift our prayers for them to Heaven, to You, the most loving of Fathers.

We ask this through Your son, Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, for ever and ever. Amen.
