AUGUST 18, 2019 2 SAINT BERNARD
The first step in this world changing life is to say yes to Christ. The United States bishops have put it this way:”Jesus’ call is urgent. He does not tell people to follow him at some time in the future but here and now at this moment, in these circumstances. There can be no delay. Go and proclaim the kingdom of God. No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.” Once we have answered yes to Christ’s urgent call, we make a commitment to living as faith filled and faithful people in our daily lives, and we don’t look back we know that saying yes to Christ means that we will have to say no to things that are not consistent with Christ’s message of love. We make the commitment to Christ with our eyes open, as a response to the powerful love of God, which we are compelled to accept and to share. Even in saying that we have a role to play in bringing the fire of Christ’s love to the world, we know in our hearts that there is a flip side to consider. The more committed to Christ we are, the more likely it is that we will meet rejection and experience tension with people who are not committed to Christian living. While some may experience the division among family members that Jesus describes, it is more likely that we will find such divisions among friends. They may not understand our commitment to go to Mass, pray, avoid sinful situations, or serve others.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) is a process by which a person prepares to become a member of the Ro-man Catholic Church. The process is one of inquiry, evangelization, prayer, study
and conversion, leading to one’s entrance into the church through Baptism,
Confirmation and the Eucharist. RCIA welcomes the unbaptized as well as those
baptized in other Christian traditions. RCIA also wel-comes those who have been baptized Catholic but
who have not completed their sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation.
Anyone who is interested in participating in this program is asked to call the Rectory now and speak
to Deacon Frank.
Stewardship Thought “Do you think I have come to give you peace on Earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.” (Luke 12:51)
Living a stewardship lifestyle means stepping out of our comfort zone when needed. Many of us like to play it safe, not cause waves, stay in the middle of the road. In today’s world we are called to be informed and take a stance for life, marriage and religious liberty.
