Dear Parishioners,

I wish you peace and blessings as we celebrate the birth of the Christ child. I am happy to be able to once again offer each of you a family gift.

This year we are offering Matthew Kelly's book entitled, Resisting Happiness. Each of us seeks happiness and yet sometimes it seems so elusive. In Resisting Happiness, Mr. Kelly explains how what we are doing may be standing in the way of true happiness. He identifies key questions and practices that may help to change our habits. Changing to form new habits can lead to true happiness! Resisting Happiness is a personal and disarmingly transparent look at why happiness eludes us and what we can do about it.

A few examples of the easy-to-follow chapters are: "Your Quest for Happiness," "Life is Messy," "Get Busy Living," "Breaking the Cycle," "Let Your Light Shine." The short chap-ters are only 2 to 8 pages and end with a key point and an action step. The gift book will be distributed after each of the Christmas liturgies.

Finally, and as a reminder, Mr. Kelly is coming to speak at St. Bernard's on Sunday Jan. 29, 2017. Tickets may still be available at dynamiccatholic.com.

As we gather with loved ones and friends at this very special time of year, I wish you peace, happiness, and blessings.

May the Lord bless you and all those you hold dear.

Yours in Christ,

Father Brian T. Bell

Holy Family. Prayer to the Holy Family*

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate

the splendour of true love, to you we turn with trust. Holy Family of Nazareth,

grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer,

authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic Churches.

Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again

find ready comfort and healing. Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Sanctity of Life Ministry "America you are beautiful and blessed. The ultimate test of your

greatness is the way you treat every human being, but especially the weakest and most defenseless. If you want equal justice for all and true freedom and lasting peace, then America, defend life". – Saint John Paul II

Saint John Paul II noted that the structure of man’s sin is characterized or manifest on a universal scale in our Culture of Death. He pointed out that the powerful are easily able to manhandle the weak (e.g. abortion and euthanasia).

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The Arizona Income Tax Credit for Contributions to Qualify-ing Charitable Organizations for the working poor (also

known as the working poor credit) entitles you to reduce your Arizona income tax dollar for dollar for contributions to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Joint income tax filers can obtain up to $800 in re-duced AZ income taxes (for single filers the amount is $400). You do not need to itemize to obtain the credit. When you make a cash do-nation to SVdP through this special appeal or in regular Church en-velopes in 2016, you will receive a letter by next February from the Vincentians of SVdP at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Conference. This letter will serve as your receipt and verification that you have made the contribution to enable you to complete AZ form 321 to file with your 2016 AZ Income Tax Return.

Your Contributions Help People The Vincentians of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Conference serve per-sons, all of whom live within the Parish boundaries. SVdP provides resources to people including helping them feed their families, obtain medicines, access transportation, avoid evictions and prevent utility shut-offs. These resources are not just financial but referrals to other agencies that also provide help with medical, legal, financial, employ-ment and other essentials. The Vincentians also pray with the people at their time of need asking for God’s blessings for them and those who support SVdP.

Other Credits The working poor credit is in addition to other credits for Arizona income tax filers. For example, you can also claim credits for cash contributions for private school tuition and public school extracurricu-lar activities. Several other charitable organizations qualify as donees for the working poor tax credit an all such contributions must be ag-gregated in calculating the credit.

Making a Donation to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Please make your check payable to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul and mail it to SVdP, St. Bernard of Clairvaux Conference, 10755 N. 124th St., Scottsdale, Az 85259.

FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH POPE FRANCIS

ANGELUS Saint Peter's Square Sunday, 27 December 2015

… Our Lady and Joseph teach us to welcome children as a gift of God, to beget them and raise them, cooperating wonderfully in the work of the Creator and giving to the world, in each child, a new smile.

It is in a united family that children bring their existence to maturity, living out the meaningful and effective experience of freely given love, tenderness, reciprocal respect, mutual under-standing, forgiveness and joy.

I would like to pause above all on joy.

The true joy which is experienced in the family is not something random and fortuitous. It is a joy produced by deep harmony among people, which allows them to savour the beauty of being together, of supporting each other on life’s journey. However, at the foundation of joy there is always the presence of God, his welcoming, merciful and patient love for all. If the door of the family is not open to the presence of God and to his love, then the family loses its harmony, individualism prevails, and joy is extinguished.

Instead, the family which experiences joy — the joy of life, the joy of faith — communicates it spontaneously, is the salt of the earth, and light of the world, the leaven for all of society. May Jesus, Mary and Joseph bless and protect all the families in the world, so that in them may reign the serenity and joy, the jus-tice and peace which Christ by his Birth brought as a gift to hu-manity.

Prayer to the Holy Family* Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendour of true love, to you we turn with trust.
