We hit our Goal

Thank You!

$108,988 Goal $ 89,255

This weekend we continue our brief and reverent distribution of Holy Communion following the 9AM live-streamed Mass. We were all so moved by the number of our parish family who came to receive Holy Communion this past weekend. Over 250 persons came from 10:30 AM until 11:45 AM. Deacon Bernie Terrien remarked to me how moved he was to see the faces of our people receiving Holy Communion for the first time in so many months. Many persons were moved to tears as they came forward. What a testimony of the faith of our parish family. This is inspiring to all of us! We witness to each other.

The Knights of Columbus were of course extraordinary. Many parishioners voiced to me their gratitude for the Knight’s care, order, hospitality and witness of faith. I could not have been more impressed and pleased. I knew we had fantastic group of Knights at our parish and this has only served to seal that belief. Thank you to all of these great men and their families. We are told in seminary and as young priests to lean into the Knights if we are in need. What they told us was true. Starting on Saturday June 13th and Sunday June 14th, we will have the resumption of some of our weekend Mass times. Our space will be limited. We will have the 4:00 PM Mass, 8:00 AM Mass and 10:00 AM Mass. The dispensation from attending Mass remains in effect. Those who are of a vulnerable community, of older age, have struggling health issues, or any other impairment are encouraged to maybe not attend yet at this time. When you arrive, you will again have your temperature checked. We will need to be wearing a mask. Unfor-tunately, you will not be able to sit where you normally do. Ushers will guide you to a seat. You will need to pre-register for a Mass so that we do not exceed capacity. This will be able to be done by phoning the office or registering on-line. You will then be on a list. If you are not on a list, you will unfortunately not be allowed entry. You will be receiving a letter via email or via snail Mail this week explaining all the procedures. This will be a temporary experience for all of us. I ask your patience, love and faith. We are moving forward! Hang in there and stay strong and faithful. In Christ, Fr. Mark Vander Steeg

MOST HOLY TRINITY PAGE 3

Spirit & Life Most Holy Trinity “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…” JOHN 3:16

Is your love conditional? Is there a price others have to pay to receive your love and forgiveness? Are you generous with your time, skill, money and possessions? If you give someone something, do you expect something in return? Do you give your time freely or do you “fit it in” when it’s convenient for you? God desires a personal relationship with us so much that He gave us His Son, unconditionally! Pray for a grateful and generous heart.

St. Norbert and St. Bernard: Coworkers in Church Reform By: Adam Horn, Director of Religious Education

It seems that in times of corruption or heresy God raises up great saints to reform His Church. We see this clearly in the 13th Century, when St. Francis of Assisi and St. Dominic founded their respective orders to defend the Church from the heresy of the Cathars. Less famous are the reforms of the 11th and 12th century. During the second half of the 11th century the great Saints (and friends) Peter Damian and Pope St. Gregory VII had laid the groundwork for reform in monasteries and in the episcopacy. However, they died in 1073 and 1085 respectively. Someone needed to continue their work.

St. Norbert was born in 1075. As he grew, it seems that Norbert fully intended to be a corrupt sub-deacon – the very thing that Peter Damian and Pope Gregory were working against! However, in 1111 AD, Norbert heard Pope Paschal II passionately defend the reforms begun the century earlier and he had a change of heart. He converted and was or-dained, dedicating himself to a life of poverty, asceticism, and missionary preaching. In his travels he discovered that many parish priests were lonely, morally corrupt, ignorant of the faith, and felt that the Church did not care for them. So Norbert took it upon himself to lead reforms that would work on improving the lives of parish priests.

St. Bernard himself was a contemporary and friend of Norbert. Born in 1090, Bernard joined the Cistercian Order in 1112. The Cistercians were a new order founded in 1098 that emphasized a strict observance of the Rule of St. Bene-dict, and St. Bernard quickly proved himself to be up to the task. Just three years later, Bernard was sent to found a monastery in what is now called Clairvaux, where he was named abbot. Bernard continued to draw so many people to a life of simplicity and contemplative prayer that he was responsible for the founding of 162 more monasteries in his lifetime.

June 6 marks the feast of St. Norbert of Xanten, the founder of the Premonstratensians, or the Norbertine Order. St. Norbert – pray for us!

2020 Amigos for Christ Virtual Rosary Run: No Motorcycle? No Problem! June 20th 11:00am via Zoom Due to COVID-19 we are having a virtual Rosary Run this year. For those of you who have asked me this question in the past, "if we don't have a motorcycle can we still participate in The Rosary Run," here is your chance!! Everyone can join us in prayer this year.

If you would like to join us in praying the rosary this year, pre-register at www.rosaryrun.org and use the link provided to join us at 11:00am on June 20th. We will begin live from Nicaragua with some folks from Amigos for Christ starting our rosary. We will then visit five sacred sites spread out across Wisconsin, and one site in Oklahoma. At each site we will be lead in a decade of the rosary. We will close out our prayer from The National Shrine of St. Joseph on St. Norb-ert Campus. Over the last 9 years we have raised over $32,500.00 to help Amigos for Christ bring clean water, sanitary bathroom conditions, education, health care and an overall increased quality of life to the rural poor of Nicaragua. Donations can be made online at www.rosaryrun.org or through the St. Bernard Parish Office Attn: Deacon Bernie Terrien. Please make checks out directly to Amigos for Christ. Thank you so much for your support through the years. Deacon Bernie and Lynn Terrien.

Teach us to Give By: Meg Lehman, Evangelization & Youth Coordinator

Isn’t it hard sometimes to just do things for others without thinking of how it will affect ourselves? How often do we think first of our own needs before someone else’s? This week’s challenge: try to find opportunities to give and sacrifice for others without thinking of the cost that it would have to you.

“Teach us to give and not to count the cost.”

-St. Ignatius It doesn’t have to be anything extraordinary necessarily. It could be as simple as seeing your spouse or sibling doing the dishes, and you offer to help. You may be busy doing something else, or you might be relaxing in the living room, but how much would it mean to that person for you to offer to rinse the dishes? This act of pure love for another without thinking of your own needs and wants means so much to Jesus that He said to St. Faustina: “A single act of pure love pleases Me more than a thousand imperfect prayers.” Or maybe it means donating money or clothes to charity. Yes, it’s costly to you in the sense that you won’t have as much money or clothes, but you’re giving to someone less fortunate. You’re sac-rificing your own needs and thinking of the needs of others first. Isn’t that beautiful? How can you give to others without counting the cost? How can you implement this into your daily life, and ultimately to who you are?
