Dear Families, Welcome back to St Brigids in 2019. Our school certainly is looking very different as we establish our temporary learning and working spaces for the next few months. The holidays were a busy time with lots of shifting, problem solving and relocation of essential services so our new temporary spaces were set up for our students to return. I would like to acknowledge our staff who worked many days throughout the holidays setting up and preparing for our students return – over and above the usual commitment given that the spaces had to be reconfigured for learning. In particular the number of days that Wendy Sullivan, Arch Cochrane, Belinda Wendt, Annemarie Harrison, Tracey Stackpole and Michele Wain put in to ensure new temporary spaces were up and running for day 1. Very much appreciated by all. Building programs are exciting times in schools as we watch new facilities grow out of the old – thank you for your support and positivity while we are in this building phase. Building Works Update As of today we have vacated the old office spaces and staffroom in preparation for demolition – only our phone connections and security connections are to be moved, there is no interruption to service. Families are only to use the Chute and Barkly St gates before and after school, while parking will be at a premium around the school during the build. Our temporary office is located in the building near the Chute St gate this gate will remain unlocked but closed over during this time. If you need to come into the office during the day, please close the gate behind you as you enter and exit our school. Worksite A reminder to all following on from my email to families last week that no access to St Brigids School can happen via the work site – we are completely fenced off from the building works. New Grass and Sand Pit Many thanks to Dan OConnor and his team who worked over January to returf the area inside the running track and create a new sandpit across the road. The lush new grass will be ready for our students to enjoy in the next couple of weeks. The fresh laid turf looks great and will certainly provide a great teaching and play space for all. New Staff This year we welcome Mrs Jodie Marziano (Religious Education Leader) who will be with us on alternate Thursdays and every Friday, Mrs Louise Flourentzou (Yr 3/4LA) who will be teaching Year 3/4 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays each week with Mrs Williams working the reaming days in this class and Miss Tess Haddock who will be teaching in Year 5/6AC on Thursdays. I know you will make each of the new staff members welcome – we will learn a little more about them in next weeks newsletter. Dates to Remember loved collection of books is outgrowing our current shelving. I would like to acknowledge the generous donation by the City of Kingston Libraries and Community Development team – namely Tim Bearup and Connie Maggio for their role in securing the resources for our school. Thanks also to Kristina for organising delivery of the shelving with Allie Donnelly, Felicity Stainthorpe and Antoinette Prochilo. Your help and support is very much appreciated. Beginning School Year Mass All are welcome to attend our Mass tomorrow at 11.30am at St Brigid’s Church. Please check you have approved your child’s Caremonkey request and if you are able to assist with walking with your child’s class to and from mass, please advise your child’s classroom teacher – all are welcome to help out. Parent Information Sharing Sessions Years 1-6—Wednesday 13 February Bookings for our Information Sharing Sessions are now open. These sessions form an important step in your child’s transition to a new class, level and for some families a new school. The relationship between home and school is vital and one I encourage families to develop with their child’s teacher throughout the year. These sessions are not teacher feedback to families about academic performance. Classes will end at 1.00pm with sessions commencing at 1.30pm. Each session will be 10 mins in length. Matters requiring a longer meeting will need to scheduled outside this arrangement. Prep families will have an information night on Tuesday 26 February.

Follow the attached link to for bookings & enter code: d2fgd https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/code REMINDER: SCHOOL FINISHES AT 1.00PM ON WEDNESDAY 13 FEBRUARY Prep Parent Information Night—Tuesday 26 February Our Prep Information night will take place on Tuesday 26 February at 7.00pm. This evening will be filled with information for families to support their child through the Prep year of school. This night is in place of the Parent Teacher Information Sessions that were held this week for our families with children in Years 1 to 6. Parking in the Kiss and Go Zone Parents are reminded that they are to remain with their car when dropping off in the Kiss and Go Zone. This is in fairness to other parents who want to use this space. We understand that parking is an issue around the school and becoming more so now that we have significant building works in the surrounding streets and rail commuters also parking around the school. How about parking a little distance from school and taking a short walk! Please ensure your child exists or enters the car from the safe side i.e –curbside. NO TUCKSHOP—FRIDAY 1 OR FRIDAY 8 FEBRUARY As we are transitioning through our building program there will be no tuckshop for the first two weeks of this term. Please ensure that all children have a snack and lunch provided for tomorrow. Kind regards Michael Russo Principal
