Donations to the “loose change bowls” located at each Church
entrance provide meals and education for over 200 children at the
parish daycare center.

Infant Baptisms We’re so happy about the new addition to your

Marriage Congratulations on your engagement! As with the other
sacraments, prior preparation is necessary. Please contact the
office at least six months before the wedding.
Anointing of the Sick/Visitation Please contact the office for
arrangements for individual anointing or for a visitation to
someone who is sick or homebound. For emergencies after hours,
please call Fr. Joe at 585-747-3649. Families should alert the
Parish Office when family members are in the hospital. Hospitals
are no longer able to provide parishes with this information. If
you would like to have someone prayed for at Mass and/or added to
the Prayer Corner in the bulletin, we invite you to call the Parish

SYRIAN REFUGEE DINNER St. Catherine’s is hosting a fundraising
dinner on Friday, April 1 (no, really!), from 5:30–7 p.m. in the
Parish Center. Fr. Joe will be making sauce and we will have pasta,
salad, bread, and homemade
desserts. Invite some friends or come alone and enjoy a great
dinner. Donations will go to help a Syrian refugee named Firas
Hassan participate in a concert series throughout Europe with the
group Journey West. This
tour is designed to help the listener understand how music has
traveled across much of the world and to raise awareness of the
gifts of cultures mixing and growing through music. Your generous
donation will help St. Catherine’s raise the money needed to pay
Firas Hassan’s travel expenses.
CRS RICE BOWLS If you haven’t yet brought in your donations to
the CRS Rice Bowl, please do so in the coming week so that we can
make our parish donation. Through CRS we help to support those in
need throughout the world, as well as Loaves and Fishes locally.

200 CLUB TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE Reservation forms for the 200
Club Dinner on Saturday, April 9, have been mailed. The dinner is
sure to be a wonderful evening, with great food from Dinosaur BBQ
and some great stories and presentations. Please ensure that your
reservation form is returned by March 31. We look forward to
sharing the evening with you!
By the way, for those of you who haven’t purchased a 200 Club
ticket yet, you are in luck! There are still tickets available and
many opportunities to win cash prizes and attend the celebration

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION RECEPTION St. Catherine’s is again
looking forward to celebrating all those who are volunteering for
our parish on Sunday, April 17, from 3–5 p.m. at our Volunteer
Appreciation Reception. Anyone and everyone who volunteers in any
of our ministries, regardless of how often or how much you
volunteer, is welcome to come for good food and drink. We would
love the opportunity to offer a little thanks to you and have you
join in the fun of gathering with other parishioners as we
celebrate all that we are able to accomplish because of the good
work of so many.
SAVE THE DATE AND YOUR DONATIONS! Once again, the Church of
Latter Day Saints will be hosting a Charity Yard and Bake Sale to
benefit Ithaca's MobilePack for Feed My Starving Children. The sale
will be held on Saturday, June 18, from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. at 114
Burleigh Drive. Last year over $4,000 was raised through this sale
to benefit the MobilePack. As you are doing your spring cleaning,
consider setting aside some treasures to donate to this sale. We
will let you know where and when you can drop donations off in the
coming months.

UPDATE ON COAT DONATIONS Thank you so much for your generous
coat donations on Palm Sunday—we collected about 300 coats!
Ann Marie talked with Virginia at Catholic Charities to find out
if they could use all of the donated coats. She found out that just
during the two-week period of the Share the Warmth campaign last
year, they gave away 615 coats to adults and 320 to children. In
total, 900 adults and 647 children, representing 592 households,
received a coat, boots, snowpants, hats, scarves, or mittens.
Catholic Charities is thrilled to have such a head start on the
Share the Warmth campaign, and they hope our donation will allow
them to start giving out coats and other winter gear earlier this
year. Good work, everyone!

Children’s/Youth Ministry
FAITH FORMATION UPDATE FOR CLOW AND CFF There will be no
Children’s Liturgy of the Word or Children’s Faith Formation this
Easter Sunday, March 27. All sessions will resume on Sunday, April
3.
EASTER EGG HUNT All children through grade 4 are invited to join
us for the annual Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the High
School Youth Ministry, after the 9 a.m. Mass this Easter Sunday,
March 27. We will begin the festivities with a friendly activity
while the kids come over from Church. The egg hunt will commence at
about 10:30 a.m. The area next to the Parish Center will
be sectioned off to allow for two groups: one for all kids
through grade 1, and one for any kids in grades 2, 3, and 4. Each
child should bring a basket or bag for the eggs they find. Prizes
will be available for those children who find a special item in
their Easter eggs. See you there!
“IN THE LOOP” WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRY High School
Youth Ministry will not meet this Easter Sunday, March 27. Our
sessions will resume on Sunday, April 3, with a session titled
“Letting Go and Rising Up.” The Resurrection can be difficult for
young people to understand, especially if they only look at it as a
historical event. This session invites high school youth to think
of the Paschal Mystery as a way of living life—accepting the deaths
that come our way and learning how to rise again from them.
MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRY Middle School Youth Ministry will
not meet this Easter Sunday, March 27. We will resume on Sunday,
April 3, with a session focused on the Paschal Mystery. In this
session, the youth will explore the meaning of the Paschal Mystery
and how they can live out the Paschal Mystery every day in their
lives. This is a Confirmation topic for preparation and is required
for our candidates.
MSYM AND HSYM SESSION ON APRIL 10 Middle School and High School
Youth Ministry would like to invite our middle and high school
youth and their families to a combined MSYM/HSYM session on April
10. This youth m i n i s t r y f a m i l y session will be a time
where we will be able to come together to socialize, eat, and
provide service! During this time, we will host a shoe cutting
party for the Sole Hope Organization. This organization helps
provide shoes to children in Uganda who are seriously infected with
jiggers, small sand fleas that enter bare feet and burrow into the
skin and can lead to infections, paralysis, and even amputation.
During the shoe cutting party, we will use the donated jeans we
have been collecting for the past year to trace, cut, and assemble
shoe packs which will be sent to the organization. The packs will
then be sewn to make shoes for the kids from our recycled jeans. We
have over 100 pairs of jeans collected, which will provide quite a
few shoes! We know this will be a fun, enlightening, and social
time for our middle school and high school families to come
together and make a difference for children in Uganda.

Dear Parish Family,
Happy Easter! Alleluia!
Throughout Lent, we focused on God’s mercy, trying to better
understand what it means for us and for our world. We have thought
about how God’s mercy is for everyone, and the ways that it can
transform us. We reflected on how God’s mercy awaits us and brings
us home. Finally,
we heard that God’s mercy is greater than our own failings or
capacities. It is greater and bigger than ourselves.
The Easter season (from now until Pentecost Sunday on May 15)
gives us an opportunity to enact God’s mercy in our world. We
started doing that on Palm Sunday when we were asked to bring in
donated coats. Over 170 coats arrived on that one weekend, and then
our little act of mercy was multiplied by the simple act of a
visitor to our Church and a lucky happenstance or a little
miracle—you decide!
On the way out of Mass on Palm Sunday, a woman who was visiting
us handed me some money and asked if I would use the money to buy a
coat to donate. I said yes, thanked her, and wished her a happy
Holy Week. When I finally looked at the money she gave me, I
realized that it was $100. How generous!
About 45 minutes later, as Fr. Joe and I were getting ready for
the Spanish Mass that evening, Margaret and Amy DeGaetano showed up
with about 10 more coats. Trader K’s is closing their Triphammer
store, and Margaret and Amy found that coats there were $2 for
adults and $1 for kids—so of course they bought some and dropped
them off. With this information, and our $100 donation in hand, Fr.
Joe and I purchased an additional 36 coats for adults, 37 for boys,
and 35 for girls. In one weekend, St. Catherine’s was able to
collect around 300 coats for our brothers and sisters in need.
Mercy in action!
The corporal works of mercy challenge us to help those in need
and to engage more fully with our fellow human beings. During this
Easter season, we are going to invite you and your family to take
them to heart. Like the story told in the book Mercy in the City,
there are opportunities all around us to live out these corporal
works of mercy in our everyday lives. Perhaps we can’t do all of
them in the next eight weeks, but let’s not let ourselves off the
hook from doing anything just because we can’t do everything.
St. Catherine’s will give you opportunities over the next seven
weeks to live these works of mercy out through a variety of
actions, but you can choose your own actions and we encourage you
to do so.
During this first week of Easter, we invite you to come to our
Pasta Dinner on Friday, April 1, and/or make a donation to Journey
West. Journey West is a musical group from Ithaca that is touring
Europe offering inspiration and information about how refugees and
migrants have helped spread music throughout our world. Donations
are being used to help Firas Hassan participate in this tour. Firas
is a Syrian refugee who is starting a new life in Germany after
serving as a professor of music in Syria. Although he is not
technically homeless, we are helping to provide a new community of
musicians for him and are housing and feeding him throughout his
participation in the Journey West tour. The dinner is from 5:30–7
p.m. and we hope to have a huge crowd here that night—a sign of
support and hope for all the refugees who are seeking a new home
and life in our world today.

VOLUNTEERS FOR BLOOD DRIVE We need volunteers on Thursday, March
31, from 1–6 p.m. for the Red Cross Blood Drive here at the
Parish
Center. You can sign up for one-hour shifts for the canteen
table or registration table. If you are able to help, please

give blood, please contact
800-RED-CROSS or www.redcrossblood.org to schedule an
appointment.
SOAP FOR HOPE COLLECTION Catholic Charities will again be
conducting Soap for Hope, an area-wide collection of personal care
products, from April 15–May 16. Items needed include shampoo,
toothpaste, deodorant, and body lotion. These items will be
distributed to people in need in Ithaca, Caroline, Groton, and
Danby. Collection bins will be located in businesses around
Tompkins County, and Catholic Charities is always looking for
additional sites. If your workplace would be willing to host a
site, please contact Virginia Ubari at [email protected] or 272-5062,
ext. 27. Last year Soap for Hope placed boxes at 30 sites and were
able to collect 3,382 items. They hope to add to that number this
year.
School News
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION Happy Easter from the staff and students
of Immaculate Conception School!
Did you know that our kindergarten students started Lent on Ash
Wednesday by drawing self-portraits and then discussing what they
should do during Lent? They learned that Lent has 40 days, so they
collected 40 cans of food to help feed the poor.
Our annual “For the Children” Benefit Auction is April 16.
Tickets are on sale now through the school and parish offices. We
will be auctioning a 10-foot kayak, an ECO Washer Pro, and baskets
from local businesses including Dunkin Donuts, Thayer Appliance,
Magic Castle Vacations, Squeaky Clean Car Wash, and many, many
more!
NOTRE DAME, ELMIRA Spring is in the air, which means Notre
Dame’s annual MayFest is right around the corner! MayFest will be
held on Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at Notre Dame High
School. It features a craft fair, chicken barbeque, gently used
book sale, flower and bake sale, many children’s activities, and
the annual art show. Currently the committee is accepting vendor
applications for the craft fair. To become a vendor, please visit

Diocesan News
BEGINNING EXPERIENCE OF ROCHESTER Beginning Experience (BE) is
an international peer support ministry for widowed, separated, and
divorced adults. The weekend program helps participants deal with
the natural grief process and offers an opportunity, through God,
for dealing with the pain of loss and moving into the future with
renewed hope. Our next weekend program will be
held at Camp Stella Maris on Conesus Lake on April 22–24. For
