We look forward to hearing about all of her adventures during her travels. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff, parents, students and Fr. Michael for their support of myself during Carmel’s time away and for their assistance in ensuring that the school has continued to perform with its usual focus on community cohesion and supporting our students to achieve their best. This Friday we come together as a school community to celebrate the Feast Day of Mary Mackillop - St Mary of the Cross. Mary was born on the 15th January 1842 in Melbourne, she had 3 sisters and 4 brothers. She cared about people who had no one to look after them, children who had no school to go to, people who were old and sick and people who had nowhere to live. One of the many teachings attributed to her is “Never see a need without doing something about it”. Mary wanted more than anything to help these people. She went to work as a teacher in a country town in South Australia called Penola. Together with Fr Tenison Woods they began the first St Joseph’s School in an old stable in 1856. In 1866 Mary began the Congregation of the Sisters of St Joseph and dedicated her life to doing God’s work. Mary died on 8th of August 1909 in North Sydney. Mary helped many people during her lifetime and, after she died, the Sisters of St Joseph kept on doing the good work she had started. On the 17th October 2010 Pope Benedict XVI canonised Mary MacKillop and she became the first and only Australian to be recognised as a saint by the Catholic Church. We invite you to join us for Mass at 12:00 noon this Friday, August 7th to celebrate this special Feast day. Thankyou to the parents who have completed a parent opinion survey, however the number of returned surveys is still low. We value your opinion and require a significant number of surveys to be completed in order for the results to be reliable and to accurately inform our planning for the future. Please come in to the office and collect a survey or send in the return slip included in this newsletter. Every parent who completes a survey will go into the draw for a $50 Coles Myer voucher. Have a great week. Assunta Iacovino DEPUTY PRINCIPAL Ever generous God, You inspired Saint Mary MacKillop To live her life faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and constant in bringing hope and encouragement to those who were disheartened, lonely or needy. We ask that our faith and hope be fired afresh by the Holy Spirit so that we too, like Mary MacKillop, may live with courage, trust and openness. Ever generous God hear our prayer. Hello families, Week 3 of Term 3 was great; the children did lots of activities relating to the environment and sustainability, they used our recycled materials to produce painted sculptures and gave our little garden some attention. This week is Problem Solving week. Some activities will include Hama beads, children crosswords, maths quiz and plastic cup towers. Again please feel free to check out our journal on the front desk where we will display some feedback and photos for the week. Educators are conducting quick kids catch up meetings on a daily basis to discuss limits and guidelines to ensure all children are cared for at a high standard when attending the program. The areas we discussed this week was to ensure afterschool when the bell rings we come straight over to OSHClub as we have had children coming 10 or so minutes late, this is rather concerning with no notification. We ask if parents could please remind your children of the importance of this also. If you have any suggestions for the program at all we would love to hear them. All families must be enrolled to attend the program, remember this is Free!! Please create an account online at www.oshclub.com.au all bookings and cancellations can also be managed via your online account. For on the day bookings please contact the Coordinator direct at the program.

Year 1 Chick Hatching Program

For the past two weeks the Grade 1’s have been lucky enough to have some
