CONFESSION/CONFESION

Saturday (Sabado):8:40 am to 10 am and 3:30 to 4:40 pm

The Prophet Ezekiel gives us an image of a kingwho is a shepherd, who tends and cares for theflock. He pastures the sheep, gives them rest, heseeks them when they are lost, brings them backwhen they go astray, and binds and heals them whenthey are injured. So different from a worldly king, who most of the time instead of guarding andtending the sheep is the one who is being guardedand tended and being the one cared for. All of thecharacteristics of this shepherd king described bythe Prophet Ezekiel fit the description of Christ, who ultimately gave up his life for the sake of hiskingdom. His very life became the healing remedyfor that severe injury caused by sin. He died for hispeople, so that his people might live once again.Again, so different from the usual concept of a king, who is oftentimes being protected by his subjects;oftentimes his subjects or his people are the oneswilling to give their lives for the king. But in Christ, our King, it is the King who willingly gives up hislife for his people. What we can see here is thatChrist’s kingship rests on his loving service. ForChrist, to be King is to identify himself to very leastof his people; no wonder in the Scriptures the kingsays “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I wasthirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and youwelcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill andyou cared for me, in prison and you visited me.” How could a king be ever hungry, thirsty, a stranger,or naked? How could a king ever be wanting forsomething? This is where the Kingship of Jesus isdifferent. His kingship is not an office, but a self-identification to those who are found in the marginsof his kingdom. It is no wonder that the kingdom ofGod is not very popular to a lot of people. Many areafraid to belong to it or refuse to belong to itbecause if the King of this Kingdom serves and paysattention to the least and those in the margins, then Imight be called to do the same. If the King of thisKingdom gave up his life for his people, I am afraidthat I might be called to the same path. Many areuncomfortable to embrace the Kingdom of Godbecause the values that it promotes are so oppositeto what appeals to the senses, to what is easy andconvenient, and so counter-cultural.

CHRIST REIGNS!

The Solemnity of Christ the King was officiallyintroduced to the Church’s liturgy in 1925 by PopePius XI. Compared to the other solemnities andfeasts, it’s a relatively new liturgical celebration. But even if the feast was only introduced in 1925,the image of Christ as King is as old as Christianityand the image of God as King is a popular image inthe Old Testament. So why introduce it in 1925 aspart of the liturgy? What was the state of worldaffairs in 1925?This feast day was instituted in 1925 by Pope PiusXI who was concerned about the state of the worldin the post-World War I period, a war in which over9 million soldiers were killed and over 21 millionwounded. People seemed to be lost about what hadhappened and the tense state that was indevelopment. In the early 1920s Mussolini marchedon Rome and formed a Fascist government. Stalinruled as the Soviet Dictator. We began to hear ofAdolf Hitler. There was fear, a lack of hope, andfeelings of helplessness. So the Feast of Christ theKing was established as a reminder to all about whois ultimately and eternally in charge. It is alsointeresting to note that in 1924, a year before thefeast of Christ the king was proclaimed, thegovernment of Mexico declared war on theCatholic Church to prove that Jesus was not lord. Ayoung Jesuit priest, Father Michael Pro, wasarrested and brought in front of the firing squad. Before they shot him, with a crucifix in his hand, heshouted out, “Viva El Cristo Rey!” (“Long liveChrist the King!”). Thousands of priests, religious, and lay people were killed in that movementagainst Christ the King or against the Church. Thecounter movement was called the Cristero. Viva elCristo Rey! (Long live Christ the King!) was thebattle cry of the entire Cristero movement. Thepeople wanted everyone to know that Jesus Christis Lord and King.

VOCATIONSDEVOTION"My kingdom does not belong to this world."

Will you make Christ the King and His mercifullove remembered as a priest, deacon or in theconsecrated life?

There are also modern versions of Mussolinis,Stalins, and the like that are out there to eliminatethe Kingdom of Christ; groups that are hostile toChristianity. Aside from these, there are alsomany “kingdoms” out there trying to lure us - thekingdom of material things, lust, addictions, thelist could go on and on. Kingdoms that sadly onewillingly submits to without hesitation andsecond thought. Jesus said: “he who is not with me is againstme.” We have a decision to make on this feast ofChrist the King. You have to make a decision topromote his kingdom. You may not hang out onthe sidelines. You may not stand by as anobserver. There is no neutral position. We lookup to our patroness St. Cecilia, whose feast daywe celebrate on November 22, on what it meansto make a decision to belong to the Kingdom ofGod. Her very life became an oblation to God,allowing the Kingdom of God to completely takeover her entire being. If you don’t belong toGod’s kingdom, to whose kingdom do youbelong?- Fr. Cary

CONFESIONES ENSANTA CECILIA

Gracias porhaber respondido a mi llamado.” Noviembre 25, 2018.
