RECTORY OFFICE HOURS 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Mon.– Fri. Please Note: Office Closed Mon., Sept. 5th-Labor Day

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

The 7:00 AM Masses in the Holy Spirit

Chapel will resume on Tues. & Thurs. at

7:00 AM beginning Tuesday, Sept. 13th.

"Our nation is in a profound

moral crisis which generates

division on all levels and results

in an ever-greater more pervasive violence and killing."

His Eminence, Cardinal Raymond Burke is calling us to

participate in a 54 Day Rosary Novena. It began on August

15, the Feast of Our Lady's Assumption and continues until

the end on October 7, the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy

Rosary. One Rosary ( 5 decades) should be said each day

for the healing of our nation. Visit the website to sign up

for daily meditations: novenaforournation.com

Fr. Anthony Korir, SMA Fathers, will be

representing the Propagation of the Faith at

Masses this weekend. Through the Propagation of the Faith, we can reach

those at work at “the ends of the earth” as we support the

Church’s evangelizing work in more than 1,150 mission

dioceses worldwide. We are needed to offer daily prayer

and regular financial help as well.

From the Pastor’s Corner

THANK YOU

Over the past six years, Ken Anderson and George Sevigny have faithfully served as

Trustees of St. Christopher’s Parish. In September, Ken will step down and Bill Paccione will

succeed him. In a few short lines, I would like to thank Ken for his dedication and love of

St. Christopher’s Parish.

As we all know, September 1st is the inaugural day of the newly formed Church of

St. Christopher and St. Sylvia. During the past three years, St. Christopher’s has been involved

with Archdiocesan and Parish meetings in which Ken Anderson has diligently participated in the

shaping of our newly formed parish. Ken also attended many finance and trustee meetings over

the course of this time. With the help of both Ken and George’s wisdom, our parish has grown

into a loving, prayerful, and vibrant community.

Over the years, Ken and his wife, Evelyn, have also shown their love for this parish

through the countless hours they have put into the caring of the lawns

and greenery on the property. Many travelers and those who live in Red

Hook have complimented the hard work that goes into making the Church

grounds an aesthetic and peaceful place to visit.

On behalf of the Parish, I would like to thank Ken for his faithful

service. One of the most important barometers that I use in recognizing

how much someone loves their parish is by the amount of care they give to the church.

Ken Anderson is truly a man of faith. Thank You Ken and may God Bless you always.

CYCLE C 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

W hen you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the

lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their

inability to repay you." Today Jesus instructs us to be

generous enough to serve others without expecting repayment. At least, without

expecting to be repaid in THIS life. It's interesting that the Gospel concludes with Jesus' promise

that if we follow this teaching, we "will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous." In other

words, God will "repay" our generosity on earth by welcoming us into heaven. Really, what better

investment could there possibly be?

It can be tempting to think of our money as purely our own. We work hard to earn it. Or we

receive it from others who wanted US to have it. Or luck came our way (and too bad for you that

it didn't come your way). We thus feel possessive of our money and often struggle with the idea

of giving it away or lending it without hope of being paid back (with interest!). But today's Gospel

challenges us with a different perspective. In essence, Jesus tells us to use our money for the sake

of others, not just to assure our own earthly comfort. As difficult as this request may be, its

important to remember that Jesus honors the sacrifice! This is why he promises repayment in

heaven. He understands that it "costs" us a great deal to part with the security of using our money

for ourselves alone. He understands that in caring for the poor, we risk putting ourselves in their

company.

But God's ways are not the ways of the world. Instead of investing everything in a bank,

Jesus asks us to invest in the poor. After all, no bank on earth can possibly provide the infinite

rate of return that Jesus promises.

Participate in Eucharistic Adoration on First Fridays

There are many reasons adults seek to find out more about the Catholic Church. It makes no difference if you have been affiliation or experience or if you were never baptized. You may have started out Catholic but never completed your initiation with the Sacraments of

Eucharist and Confirmation. Whatever your reasons, know there are others like yourself who desire a closer relationship with Christ and a community in which to thrive and worship to help deepen that relationship. RCIA helps individuals journey to a deeper understanding of Jesus and the Catholic faith.

It is a life changing journey. To find out if this is right for you or for more information, please contact Eileen Cassidy at 845-758-3732 or [email protected]

Sharing the Gospel-If you act bossy, you might get your way, but you won't make many friends. Jesus shared a secret about making friends. When you treat other kids with kindness, they will want to be your friends. For example: Instead of telling other kids what to do, ask them to choose a game.
