ST. CLARE’S PRO-LIFE GROUP THOUGHT OF THE WEEK:
“From the beginning of the Bible until the end, the theme is echoed that God alone has dominion over human life. He made it; shared it; died to save it; will raise it up forever.”
...Father Frank Pavone
HOW MUCH TO GIVE ...FOR GOD LOVES A PERSON WHO GIVES CHEERFULLY.”
(2 Corinthians 9:7)

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
There are few openings for “Shepherds”
in the classified ads today, but few occupations are as dear to the Christian
heart. Most of us tenderly place shepherds by our Christmas cribs, name the Twenty-third Psalm as our favorite, and recognize “Good Shepherd” as a title of Jesus. Bishops carry a staff,
called a crozier, modeled after the shepherd’s walking staff. Long before Christian artists painted Jesus on the cross, they traced on the walls of their worship places images of a strong
young shepherd, shouldering a lost sheep and bringing it to safety. Springtime is the season of lambing, a time when the shepherd not only learns the faces of the new arrivals, but also when the newborn sheep become attuned to the voice of the
shepherd. This is exactly what we do as a community in Easter as we shelter and guide the newly received Christians,
and also put our Lenten muscles to good use: listening more attentively to God’s Word, and responding with
springtime vigor to God’s call.
ALL CHURCH ACTIVITIES HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY.
THE CHURCH WILL BE OPEN FOR PRIVATE PRAYER
MONDAY-SUNDAY 8AM-12NOON
PLEASE STAY SAFE AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP YOU UPDATED THROUGH THE WEBSITE AND BULLETIN.
GOD BLESS YOU
PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL
Let us lay the cares and needs of our pandemic-weary world at the feet of the Lord, who is our Good Shepherd.
For shepherds in our Church who will listen to those in their
flock and guide them with humility and grace, Let us pray to the Lord….
For governmental leaders to recognize their roles of
responsibility in caring for and guiding the people entrusted to their care, especially in the midst of this pandemic,
Let us pray to the Lord…
For scientists and researchers, and their assistants and sponsors who are working to develop tests, treatments, and
vaccines for COVID-19, Let us pray to the Lord…
For young people of our community, especially those who are
celebrating their confirmation this year, Let us pray to the Lord…
For men and women of all ages to heed the Good Shepherd
calling them into ordained and lay ministries, Let us pray to the Lord…
For all those who are sick, for all who suffer from the
Coronavirus, and for all who have died, Let us pray to the Lord…
For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for
all our intentions spoken and unspoken, Let us pray to the Lord…
O loving God,
You nurture and care for us And guide us along the right paths.
Hear these our prayers That we make on behalf of all in need, through Jesus Christ our risen Lord.

OUR SCRIPTURE READING AT MASS
THIS WEEKEND
The Acts of the Apostles Chap 2, Verses 14a, 36-41
All peoples called by God will receive the gift of the Spirit if they repent and are baptized.
The first Letter of Saint Peter
Chap 2 Verses 20b-25 Once we were like straying sheep; but now we
have been returned to the shepherd, our guardian.
The Gospel of John
Chap 10, Verses 1-10 The shepherd leads the sheep out into pastures
of abundant life.
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Three weeks ago my Aunt Rose passed away at age 95. For years she had dementia and was blind, in addition to other illnesses. I don’t know if the virus is what caused her death as she was never tested, but it wouldn’t surprise me. When we performed her burial services on Long Island, only 5 family members and myself were allowed to attend. We all had to stand 6 feet apart from each other and wear masks. Needless to say, this is not how I envisioned burying my father’s oldest sister, but that’s the situation we are in. In private I offered a Mass for her just as I will for every one of our parishioners who has died in this very unusual time. I know first hand how hard it is to lose someone you love and not have the closure of a wake and funeral Mass. I’ve seen people cry at the burials and say, “it’s not fair. Mom was a churchgoer and believed her whole life,. She deserves better than this.” And it’s true, They do deserve better. But as I said, this will pass, and we will make sure we honor the dead with the dignity they deserve—with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. It’s not the ideal situation brothers and sisters but I must say our parishioners are dealing with this with great grace and faith. I’m hoping and praying that the worst of this is behind us. Keep up your daily prayer life, If you want your house blessed or want to go to confession, please see the blurb on the previous page and Father Roger and I will make it happen. God Bless You,
