SISTER WATER PROJECT
We are getting close to our goal of building at least one
well for the Sister Water Project! We are again supporting the
Sister Water Project this Lenten season, and we hope you’ll join
us! Our goal of $5,500 will build one well for a village in
Tanzania and provide them clean water, to which they’ve never
accessed.
Since 2015, St. Clare has sponsored 10 wells (2-3 per
year). The first SWP well was placed in 2008, and 100% of
their 200+ wells are still in operation.

MOMENTS OF GRACE: SACRAMENTAL REFLECTIONS & INVITATIONS
Our Palm Sunday liturgy gives us a preview, a synopsis-in-
one-hour, of the poignant beauty of Holy Week. In one Mass,
we move with the fickle crowd from “Hosanna!” to “Crucify
Him!” We see the King of the Universe crucified beside a
grateful thief. This Palm Sunday and Holy Week, I plan to
walk with Mary, our best teacher for loving Jesus. I will stand
with her among the fickle crowd, as they praise and then
condemn her Son. I hope to kneel with Mary, in total Fiat trust
at the foot of the cross, as Jesus blood spatters near us and he breathes His last.
With Mary, I will wait in quiet hope for the great news that Jesus has overcome sin
and death. Please make a plan to join our community this week for the diocesan
Chrism Mass, Living Stations and Seder Meal at school, and our Triduum Liturgies so
that like Mary, we can walk faithfully with Jesus through His suffering
for us into the surprise of hope and joy as He redeems us!
RESOURCE OF THE WEEK:
The book “Seven Words of Jesus and Mary: Lessons on Cana and
Calvary” by Fulton J. Sheen analyzes the connection between the
seven recorded words that Mary spoke in the Gospels and seven last
words of her Son as He hung on the cross.

HOLY WEEK 2019
The Sacred Triduum
The paschal Triduum consists of three full liturgical days counted from the evening of Holy Thursday through Easter Sunday.
These three days form a unified liturgical celebration, so that the Triduum may be thought of as one event extended over
some seventy-two hours.
The three days are, together, the principal celebration of the paschal mystery. It is not a historical drama, not a reenactment
of the last days of Christ. It is a whole paschal mystery looked at from various sides.
(1) THURSDAY, APRIL 18, 6:30 p.m.
The first day is Holy Thursday, the celebration of the Lord’s Last Supper. It recalls the institution of the Sacra-
ment of the Holy Eucharist and the institution of the Ordained Priesthood. Tonight we wash feet as a sign of the
service all are called to in Baptism. Following tonight’s Mass, people are invited to spend time in prayer in a
chapel set up in Nilles Hall where the Blessed Sacrament will be reserved through the night hours.
(2) FRIDAY, APRIL 19, 12:00 (noon)
The second day is Good Friday through Holy Saturday evening, commemorating the Lord’s crucifix-
ion, burial and the keeping of the great Sabbath.
The suffering and death of Jesus have been a focus of intense prayer for Christians since the earliest
centuries. Mass is not celebrated on this day. We gather in solemn prayer, listen to the Sacred
Scriptures, offer prayers for the whole Church, venerate the cross, and share in Holy Communion.
(3) SATURDAY, APRIL 20, 8:00 p.m. (no regular 4:30 p.m. Mass today)
The third day is Holy Saturday night through Easter Sunday evening, the day of the Lord’s resurrection.
Employing the fullness of liturgy on this night, we celebrate the primary feast of the entire liturgical year.
It is a powerful experience of the signs, symbols, gestures, and words that form and shape us as God’s
people.
(4) EASTER SUNDAY, APRIL 21
The most important solemnity of the Church year. It celebrates Christ’s Resurrection from the
dead, which is the central truth of the Church’s faith. It is the most joyous time of the year, as
we adorn the church with flowers, the singing of Alleluias and the Gloria, because Christ has
conquered death and sin – they no longer have power over us. The word Easter, derived
from Old English, means “to shine,” suggesting a new day. Every Sunday throughout the
year is a mini-Easter, when God’s people faithfully celebrate this central truth for our lives now, and for eternity.
