Third Year English Trip Ms. Walsh and Ms. Carden took the third year higher level English students to Sligo on Tuesday 5th April. They visited W.B. Yeats' grave in Drumcliff followed by a talk in The Yeats Memorial Buidling in Sligo. The talk

was de-

livered by Martin Enright, the President of the Yeats Society. It was very informative and interesting. Mr. Enright spoke at length about the areas of importance in Sligo and Leitrim, to the poet Yeats. After the talk, the students went to The Merchant of Venice Sessions at The Hawkswell Theatre Sligo.

TY students participated in a four week art and drama workshop, facili-tated by the Leitrim Women’s Centre. Maura Logue from the Women’s Cen-tre organised a drama workshop where students created characters from the time of the rising. Liz Byrne worked with another group of students to cre-ate signs, props and badges for use in the parade. On the day of the parade, Kiltyclogher was transformed to look like it did in 1916, with horses and carts, residents of the town in costume, and a fair in the streets. The students that participated in the drama work-shops walked in the parade, in costume and as their characters. Other drama displays took place on the day and the parade was reported by various media including RTÉ.

St Patricks Day Parade On Wed April 20th class 2B visited Hamilton's Castle. They recently completed a project on The Plantation

of Leitrim and learned all about the role of Sir Frederick Hamilton, the founding father of the town. The pro-prietors of the cas-tle, Tony and Maura Daley gave us a detailed tour and we all found it most informative. We

learned what daily life was like inside the walls and the how the garrison coped with being under siege. We also learned about the impact Hamilton had on shaping the history of our area.
