FAMILIES NEEDED

Did you know there are close to 500,000 children in the United States in the foster care system whose parents have lost all legal rights to them? They live their little lives dreaming of having a forever family, a permanent school, and a house to call home. Most of them age out of the system because not enough families consider adoption.

What better way is there to respect life in all of its stages than by adopting a homeless child? Be the light in darkness for them. If there is room in your heart, there is room in your home and we make adoption affordable. To learn more, contact Downey Side Adoption at the address below: c/o Grace Episcopal Church 33 Church Street White Plains. N.Y. 10601

~PASTOR’S NOTES~

The above quote is from St. Pius X. He ruled the Church from 1903 until his death in 1914. Pope St. Pius X recognized the importance of the liturgy and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. He saw and wrote about the need for a return to sacred music—sacred polyphony and Gregorian Chant—at Mass. He recognized, unlike our current leaders, that the church is in times of deep discord and lack of faith that he termed “modernism,” which he called the “synthesis of all heresies.” He also had all teachers and priests take an oath of fidelity to the church. This was done away with after the Second Vatican Council and as a result, except for a few faith colleges, our Catholic universi-ties have abandoned the faith for false theological and moral teach-ings, becoming hotbeds of dissent, and socialism. Our church leaders will have much to answer for. We must pray that new Pius X’s will be raised to combat the evils that have rocked our church. As the church goes, so goes our society. Advent, then, is a time for all of us to seek true renewal. To turn away from selfishness and sin. To embrace the Good, the True, and the Beautiful who is God alone. Which master do we wish to serve? The one true God, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ or the ruler of this world?

You are all probably aware by now that the Martyrs Church will need extensive repair to its foundational structure. Years of damage and band aid repairs long before I came here have left the church unusable for now. Some cribbing has been done to keep the rest of the church structure from suffering further damage until com-plete and more permanent repairs can be made. Several contractors and engineers have inspected underneath the church and ALL have said the church cannot be used until repaired. Unfortunately, gossip has already spread that the church will be permanently closed. I am telling everyone to cease spreading rumors about things you are ignorant of. You are doing nothing but hurting our parish as was done when I was suffering from cancer and undergoing treatment and we had a temporary administrator. Such scandalous behavior is beneath a Catholic. If the Martyrs church is permanently closed, which I hope and pray will not be the case, it will be because we are unworthy of a church dedicated to those who did not think of themselves but who were willing to give their lives for the spread of the one true faith in Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church, the sole means of salvation. In Jesus and Mary, Fr. Frank Samoylo
