“Don’t be so judgmental!” “Why are Christians so intolerant?” “Why can’t we just coexist?” In an age in which preference has replaced morality, many people find it difficult to speak the truth, afraid of the reactions they will receive if they say something is right or wrong. Using engaging stories and personal experience, Edward Sri helps us understand the classical view of morality and equips us to engage relativism, appealing to both the head and the heart. Learn how Catholic morality is all about love, why making a judgment is not judging a person’s soul, and why, in the words of Pope Francis, “relativism wounds people.” Questions? POC: Dave Copsey at 937-728-0717 or [email protected] or Jennifer Gress at 937-725-8488 or [email protected].

WORD OF LIFEFor all who suffer from participation in abortion: May they find healing and peace in God’s loving forgiveness. We pray to the Lord.

“While many Catholics want to help women and men heal from past abortions, most don’t know how to begin.” Learn how you can become an instrument of God’s mercy at usccb.org/bridges-of-mercy.

THANK YOU, ST. COLUMBKILLEDear. St. Columbkille Parish, January 11, 2019Thank you very much for supporting the Catholic Charities and clients in need with your 2nd Annual Hat and Coat Collection. On January 10, 2019, we provided coats, hats and winter clothing to 198 individuals. Imagine clients coming to an event and not wearing a coat or hat. Many selected items and put them on right away. With temperatures dropping and snow on the way, your donations arrived again, just in time. Many of our clients come from warmer weather conditions and are surprised by how cold it gets in Cincinnati. Many do not have the clothing they need to help protect them and keep them warm. Your generosity is a blessing to so many. Thank you to everyone who donated items for families in need. Your gifts are greatly appreciated. A special thank you to Jan Bowman for helping to coordinate this collection.God bless,Scott D. Stephens, LISW-SDirector of Parish OutreachCatholic Charities of SW OH

FEASTS CELEBRATED THIS WEEKJanuary 27 – Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Gospel Reading: Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21Background on the Gospel Reading: As Jesus stands in the synagogue, He reads from the scroll handed to Him; it contains the words of the prophet Isaiah. At this early moment in His ministry, Jesus announces His mission in continuity with Israel’s prophetic tradition. This reading from Isaiah defines Jesus’ ministry. We will find more evidence of this as we continue to read from Luke’s Gospel throughout the year. Jesus’ ministry will include bringing glad tidings to the poor, liberty to captives, healing to the sick, freedom to the oppressed, and proclaiming a year acceptable to the Lord. Through this text from Isaiah, Jesus announces God’s salvation. The “year acceptable to the Lord” is a reference to the Jewish tradition of Sabbath years and jubilee. The Sabbath year was observed every seventh year. It was a year of rest when land was left fallow and food stores were to be shared equally with all. A year of Jubilee was celebrated every fiftieth year, the conclusion of seven cycles of Sabbath years. It was a year of renewal in which debts were forgiven and slaves were freed.

January 31 – St. John Bosco, PriestSt. John Bosco was the founder of the Salesian Society, named in honor of St. Francis de Sales, and of the Daughters of Mary, Help of Christians. His lifework was the welfare of young boys and girls, hence his title, “Apostle of Youth.” His methods centered on persuasion, authentic religiosity, and love for young people. He was an enlightened educator and innovator.

Please join us for inspiring talks, confession (available all day), celebration of the Holy Mass and fraternity with fellow men of Christ. We pride ourselves on presenting a quality, substance-driven, inspirational and faith-filled event that will change men’s lives and help equip them to be the men Christ calls them to be. Do not miss this! Tickets are on sale now at e6catholicmensconference.com.
