Dear Parents/Guardians,

This year, we celebrate Catholic Education Week from May 5th –10th. During

this time, the Catholic community celebrates the unique and distinctive con-

tribution that Catholic schools make to our students, our community, and

our province. Catholic Education Week is a welcome opportunity to celebrate the Mission of our Catholic schools as they strive to integrate the Gospel val-

ues of Jesus Christ in every aspect of the school‟s life and curriculum. The

theme for Catholic Education Week this year is “Growing Together in Faith”.

There are five sub-themes for each day of Catholic Education Week:

Monday Faith is rooted

Tuesday Faith that is nurtured

Wednesday Faith that is Discerned

Thursday Faith that is Witnessed

Friday Faith that is Celebrated

Catholic schools are Catholic communities. Catholic schools are faith com-

munities. We - parents, teachers, administrative and support staff – walk

and grow together in the faith which we received at our Baptism. And it is in

the „together‟ that we grow. And as we learn from nature, growth relies on

sun and water and nutrition. Our growth is primarily a relationship with

God, who at our Baptism, called us by name. We grow in our faith in the

nurturing atmosphere of our Catholic community.

Please plan to join us for our Parent Presentation on Mental Health Issues on

Thursday, May 9th. We look forward to celebrating Catholic Education Week

with you.

Me to We

Our “We Are Silent” day on Thursday, April 18th was a huge success. To date, we have raised $1450.00. Our goal was to raise $450.00 so that we would reach our goal of $2000.00. After counting “We Are Silent” donations to date, we have raised.$475.44! Thank you Savio for your generosity

and help in reaching our goal. Remember that all proceeds go to Kenya and that for every $25.00, one person receives fresh drinking water for LIFE. This means that with $2000.00, 80 people in Kenya will receive fresh drinking water for LIFE! Go SAVIO!!! If you would still like to contribute to “We Are Silent”, please con-tinue to bring in donations

until May 3rd.

Loving God,

May we be people of FAITH,

Always willing to follow the

example of Jesus in all that we

do. Together, may we be a

community of faith, anchored in

hope, with heart and charity.

Amen

Nurturing our Catholic Community

through FAITH, Hope and Charity

The virtue of the Month

for May is Compassion.

For the month of May we

will be focussing on the

virtue of COMPASSION.

Our quote is from John’s

Gospel, ”Jesus saw her

weeping...his heart was

touched, and he was deeply

moved.” John 11:33 True

compassion is not always

easy to practice as in the

words of Jean Vanier

“Compassion asks us to go

where it hurts, to enter into

places of pain, to share in

brokenness, fear, confu-

sion, and anguish.”

Who wants to go there

when spring has finally

arrived and the sun is shin-

ing down on us? This is all

the more reason to show

our compassion for those

who cannot share in the

light.

This is an opportunity for us to re-

new our commitment to the core

pillars of multi-year strategic plan,

our Catholic Graduate Expecta-

tions, our virtues of the month and

social justice teachings, which are

here to inspire and guide us on our

spiritual journey. Each of us has an

important role to play in ensuring

that we continue to demonstrate

our Catholic values in all that we

do, and that we focus our efforts on

student achievement and wellbeing.

It is an appropriate time for us to

remember all those support Catholic

education: our parents, our parish

leaders, our staff, our students, our

volunteers and many community

partners. We are thankful for their

involvement in our communities and

their commitment to publicly funded

Catholic education.

We are grateful for the part you play in

helping us to fulfill our mission of

transforming the world through wit-

ness, faith, innovation and action and

we look forward to hearing about the

special events that you have planned in

celebration.

On behalf of the Senior Team and the

Trustees of the Toronto Catholic Dis-

trict School Board, we wish you a

happy and inspiring Catholic Educa-

tion Week.
