Rest in Peace
Lent comes providentially to reawaken us, to shake us from our lethargy." ~ Pope Francis Here are 2 ways you can have a powerful Lent by encountering Jesus along with other parishioners, but on your own schedule!
1)Join the Consoling the Heart of Jesus retreat, on your computer! It's not too late to join us in learning about consoling Jesus; there are approximately 25 of us that meet weekly, but you can also do this on your own! Just go to www.Formed.org, type in our Parish code: 8ZWH7W, create your own account (it's easy to do!), and find the CHJ icon under "Programs". All of the materials are readable online, and/or downloadable, and printable. Although we are on Session 5, you can start at the beginning, do the readings and the weekly study guides, and catch up in no time. We'll all be able to complete the retreat just before Holy Week. This is excellent material for a Lenten devotion.
2) Sign up for Dynamic Catholic's free email program: "Best Lent Ever"®: DynamicCatholic.com/Lent. Each day you'll receive an inspirational email with a short video. If you want, you can also read Matthew Kelly's Rediscover Jesus at the same time, since the book and the emails work together, although each one can stand alone also.

FROM THE PASTOR
FASTING, PRAYER, AND ALMSGIVING
Lent is a season of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, in preparation for Easter. We began together with our Ash Wednesday fast, and we continue with our individual sacrifices—what you “give up for Lent”—punctuated by our abstinence from meat on Fridays.
For prayer, many of you pray for each other daily. (If you haven’t already picked up a paper to pray for someone daily during Lent, these intentions are available in Holy Family Hall.) We host the traditional Stations of the Cross on Fridays, and the Gorzkie śale on Sundays. Carnegie custom also includes an ecumenical prayer and luncheon at 12:00 noon on Wednesdays, this year at St. John Lutheran Church. Note the March 2 speaker from SEAS Parish! February 17—Rev. Dr. Hilary Livingston on Silence & Solitude
February 24—TBA March 2—Luke Briola on Mercy March 9—Rev. Dr. John Kent on Practicing the Presence of God March 16—Rev. Tom Moore on Generosity or Confession
For almsgiving, give to the needy—money for the poor, of course, but also charity and mercy wherever they may be needed. Visit the lonely, aid the infirm. Consider particularly the plight of Muslims and especially Christians in the Middle East, afflicted by wars and terrible violence: • Very Rev. Rudy Wakim visits Sunday, February 28, at 12:45 p.m. to talk about the concerns of
Middle Eastern Christians.
Joe Uzar, native son of SEAS Parish, studies at St. Paul Seminary in preparation for priesthood. This year he concludes his philosophy studies, and must now move on to theology. Please pray for Joe as he makes this significant transition!
The Irish Fling is an annual parish event—a delightful luncheon and (optional) card party at Chartiers Country Club, $32 per person. Call or email the parish office to make a reservation—all the better if you bring a few friends!
The Lenten Fish Fry is now underway! Join us every Friday for fish, fun, and more.
The Parish Share Program (PSP) is the principal fund for the local Church. Don’t forget to send in your PSP pledges, or at least adjust your FaithDirect account to increase your monthly PSP debit. Thank you!

"And, please, don't forget to pray for me!" These words have been associated with Pope Francis since his first speech to the world
as pope. He, humbly, knows that he needs prayers, and knows the power of intercessory prayer, and therefore seeks the intercession of any and all people who
pray. It's important enough to him that he says it at the end of almost every public speaking he does!
Joe Difato, publisher of "The Word Among Us" talks about intercessory prayer:
"As we “stand in” for others and intercede, we will see our Father working powerfully among us. As incomprehensible as it sounds, we can change people’s lives
with our prayers. It may not be exactly as we would wish, but we should know that whenever God’s people turn to him in prayer, he works marvels. So let’s never go a day without lifting up the needs that are on our hearts-both the large, global crises and the
small, personal ones. He is a loving God, and he will hear and answer us."
So, let's spend our Lent making this practice a daily habit! Let's pray for each other! If it's good enough for Pope Francis, it should be good enough for us!
Let's have a prayerful, and holy, Lent!

S.A.M. (SUBSTANCE ABUSE MINISTRY) The SEAS Substance Abuse Ministry, in full force since October, 2015, continues meeting on a monthly basis with our next meeting planned for Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. here at the parish in the Bayley Building. S.A.M. is a parish-based Diocesan outreach program that seeks to support and assist those affected or afflicted by substance abuse. We provide prayer, education, and support for people who are dealing directly or indirectly with substance abuse and its effects. If you have issues or concerns for yourself, or for a loved one, come to our meeting to pray, learn, and be supported in your efforts to stay ‘clean’ or to be of help to someone else who struggles with addiction or substance abuse. S.A.M. is not a treatment program, a therapy session, nor can it take the place of AA, NA, or Anon meetings. It is a tried and true avenue of spiritual and social support. Join us on the third Tuesday of each month for an evening of prayer, hope, and helpful information.
With God’s help, recovery is possible!

R.C.I.A. CATECHUMENATE
After celebrating the Rites of Acceptance for Catechumens and the Rite of Welcome for candidates last Sunday our RCIA candidates have now entered the formal Catechumenate Period. This requires that during their gatherings each Tuesday they continue to learn and discuss the doctrines of the Catholic Church and reflect on the Sunday readings.

Families will be given a “map” to help them navigate through the Liturgy explanations, and will collect puzzle pieces along the way to help solve the secret mystery. Plus, we will create a post-it note museum of prayer! Steve Geitgey will be there to speak to the parents while the children get their classrooms ready! You do not want to miss this event! We will meet in the church at 6:30 p.m. The evening will end in the church at 8:00 p.m.

This week’s Lenten Bulletin Cover: Christ In the Desert by
artist Ivan Kramskoi in 1872. The original piece is oil on
canvas and is 71 inches x 83 inches. It is located in the
Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. It has also been called Christ
In the Wilderness.
“Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the
Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty
days, to be tempted by the devil.” Luke 4:1
