Our first reading could have been written this week, not a

couple thousand years ago. It is clear that the changes in the

world have not healed that place in our being that is hungry for

violence and chaos. By means of the Word of God, the Savior

will open our eyes and hearts to the deepest meaning of living

faith. We will long for peace and harmony; God’s promise, that

requires our support. Brothers and Sisters, we must fast from

violence, vile words, hatred, revenge, immorality, and lashing

out at others. This is the kind of fasting that gives glory to God

and brings healing and wholeness to our wounded brothers and sisters.

As St. Paul tells us in the second reading, “For God did not give us a spirit of

cowardice, but rather of power and love and self-control.” The plea to Jesus in

the Gospel is ours also: “Increase our faith.” Prayer is powerful, so please pray

the Holy Rosary for deep interior peace and a loving, caring spirit. God rejoices

to give a triumph over evil, by the power of prayer.

As people who are committed to live as disciples and to grow as good stewards, we recognize that

being in communion with Christ calls us to communion with one another.

This Week:

Reach out in some small way to one person you know who feels separate from your “community.”

Invited them to become more connected.

The Year of Mercy: Called in Communion

How Long, Oh Lord, How Long

Words from

Father Norm

Father Riwa Kenyan Orphans

In April of 2016, SEAS Men's Fellowship sponsored a fundraising breakfast for the Friends of Kenyan Orphans.

Because of our parishes generous support, we raised enough funds to sponsor five girls for a year. The

sponsorship includes food, lodging, schooling and more. As Men’s Fellowship has shared about this endeavor,

most of the girls will be alive within the year because of this safe haven.

The girls we have sponsored for the coming year are: Dallena (12), Faith (11), Josphine (5), Winny (11), and

Teresia (11).

The brief history, photo and biography of each girl is located on the bulletin board in the social hall. A common

thread with each girl is that they come from very poor families, if they have a family. They are orphaned or

neglected and have found refuge with Father Riwa and the St. Clare Girls community.

Please visit and get to know the girls that our parish have sponsored in 2016-17.

Again, thank you, SEAS Catholic Community, for your support.

What’s Happening in Religious Education

All of the Religious Education

Calendars for the 2016-2017

school year are now online.

At www.saintliz.org you will find the Elementary

Religious Education Calendar, Sacramental Dates,

Confirmation Calendar, and the Middle School

Calendar listed under Faith Formation. All are

available to be printed off at home and placed on your

refrigerator to remind you of where you are to be.

Question of the Week for Youth

Today’s Gospel reminds us that doing the

will of God is its own reward. If we have

just a little bit of faith, He can work

miraculous things through us.

What does is mean to have faith the

size of a mustard seed?

Confirmation Field Trip to Blessed

Sacrament Cathedral

Thinking of becoming Catholic? Or looking to complete your Sacraments of Initiation?

If you are, then the RCIA

is for you. RCIA stands for

the Rite of Christian

Initiation of Adults. It is

for those who have never

been baptized, for those

baptized in another faith,

or for those who wish to

complete their initiation

into the Church by

c e l e b r a t i n g t h e

Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.

The RCIA will be meeting on Sundays from 12:15-1:30

PM. Many Catholic topics, especially the seven

sacraments are discussed each week. Please call the

Religious Education Office, (248) 879 –1314 if you have

any questions.

Merlot and the Messiah Monday, October 24th, 7:00 PM

Q: What do wine, beer, and faith have in common?

A: Leaven.

Without yeast, wine is just grape juice. Beer is just a sweet

sparge of grain. Adding the leaven of yeast can turn the

ordinary into something special. Join us on the fourth Monday

of each month and add some leaven to your faith. Let’s see

how much more extraordinary you can be.

Our Parish

Women’s Fellowship Afternoon of Honor

Please join the Women’s

Fellowship on Sunday,

October 23rd at 3:00 PM to

honor two wonderful women

of our parish: Jane Hime and

Betty Rizzo. These special

ladies have volunteered

countless hours and in

countless ways over the

years to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Please join us in

thanking and celebrating them over tea and other

refreshments, as well as finger foods. A sign up sheet

is available in the Parish Hall.

World Mission Sunday

What is World Mission

Sunday? It’s a Sunday to

be merciful to the whole

world. “Mercy changes

the World” - and through

our prayers and financial

support on World

Mission Sunday, you too

can be merciful to those

most in need.

Envelopes for World Mission Sunday contributions are

available in the Parish Hall. Please use these

envelopes, or indicate on the memo line of your check

“Mission Sunday” if you wish to contribute.

Thank you!

St. Vincent de Paul Used Bicycle Donation

Please donate your used bicycles to the St. Vincent de

Paul Bike Drive, taking place the weekend of October

15th and 16th, during Mass times (Saturday at 5:30

PM, Sundays at 7:30, 9:30, and 11:30 AM) at the

northwest corner of the St. Thomas More Church

grounds.

These bicycles provide the most basic transportation

for people who have no other means of getting around,

other than walking. The working poor, unemployed

and homeless will use the bicycles to get to work, job

interviews, and get food. The St. Thomas More SVdP

has done this for the past 3 years, yet the need

continues in Pontiac.

Be a blessing to someone who needs basic

transportation – even bikes in tough condition can help

those in need. Thank you, and God bless you!

Food Depot Donation

Our total food donation for the month of September

weighed in at 457.4 lbs. Thank you all for your

wonderful continued support.

Tai Chi Has Begun

It’s that time of year again! Tai Chi has started up

again here at SEAS in the Parish Hall on Monday

morning’s beginning at 10:30 AM.

What is Tai Chi, you ask? It is a moving meditation

and fitness regimen that was developed to promote the

flow of chi, or energy within your body. Through slow

flowing movements, Tai Chi increases strength and

muscle tone, and enhances your range of motion and

flexibility. It also improves balance and coordination.

Tai chi offers a variety of quality of life benefits, such

as improved cognitive ability, decreased levels of

anxiety, depression, stress and muscular tension. It

improves your circulation, speed of rehabilitation

following surgery, injury or serious illness, and

enhanced energy combined with an overall sense of

wellbeing.

It is recommended by the National Institute of Health

because they found that seniors that took Tai chi fell

47% less than those who did not. When does wisely, it

does no damage to the body and can help it keep

working for as long as you need it.

The free classes are now taking place. If you have any

questions, please feel free to call Lynn Pfannes at (248)

524-1951.

Manresa Day of Recollection

The South Oakland Council of Catholic Women will

have their annual Day of Recollection at Manresa on

October 20th, from 9:30 AM-3:00 PM. Father Peter

Fennessy S.J will be the speaker. There will be time

for meditation, Rosary and confession. Tickets are

$25.00, including lunch. Please reply before October

16th to Marge Caram.

Respect Life will be holding an on-going Baby Shower to benefit Abigayle

Ministries, a local crisis pregnancy center. It is not enough that we pray to end

abortion, and ask our legislators to pass laws to end abortion. We must help

women who are pregnant and scared and believe that they have no other option.

Donations of new or gently used baby clothing can be placed in the crib in the

parish hall. Baby food, formula, diapers and other baby necessities are also welcome. Unfortunately, we cannot

accept stuffed animal toys. Thank you in advance for your generous support.

Respect Life Committee

Please note…

Mass intentions should be arranged two

weeks in advance to appear in the bulletin.

Requests for names to be mentioned during

the Prayers of the Faithful or for the bulletin

prayer list should be provided by a member

of the family.

The Prayer List is updated monthly. If we do

not hear from you to keep your person on, we

will take him/her off the list. You can always

call to put him/her back on.
