Dear Parents, On Wednesday our newly appointed Leadership team met to plan for 2016 and beyond. It was an incredibly positive day with many exciting initiatives discussed and planned for in the upcoming year. The Leadership team for 2016 is: Mr. Pat Berlingeri Principal Mr. Nigel Rodrigues Deputy Principal/Learning & Teaching/Student Wellbeing Mrs. June Kellar Religious Education Leader Mrs. Danni Molino Literacy Leader Mr. Wayne Daniell Numeracy Leader Ms Michelle Hill eLearning Leader (ICT Leader) I would like to take this opportunity to thank the current leadership team for their guidance and direction over the past 2 years as they oversaw the appointment of a new Principal, Deputy Principal and Parish Priest (in the coming weeks). Their stability and support has contributed to St. Finbar’s being in the strong position it currently is in now. During the last few weeks and in the coming weeks, the dedicated St. Finbar’s staff will be working on student reports. I have been incredibly impressed with their professionalism and the quality of the report comments that I have read so far. Having an accurate, detailed account of your child’s year is incredibly important and I can safely say that it is a great pleasure for me to learn more about each child’s progress and successes, as well as areas for future learning and improvements. Finalised school reports will go home to families in the last week of this term. A reminder that the Melbourne United Basketball team will be visiting our school this Monday 30 th November. The day will culminate in a friendly match after lunch against the staff and students. There will be no assembly on this day and the gates to the playground/car park will not be opened until after 3.10pm. Can all students please wear their school sports uniform on this day as everyone will be involved in basketball clinics during the course of the day. Thank you to Kylie Hitchiner for making this opportunity happen for our students. Congratulations to Isabelle F 5/6A. Her artwork has been selected to represent our school at the Catholic Education Week Art Awards in March next year. This is an incredible honour for Isabelle and St. Finbar’s. Well Done! Congratulations also to our Year 4 Junior All Stars basketball team who made the State Grand Final on Monday. What an amazing effort. Good luck to our Senior Future Stars team who will compete at the State Level tomorrow. We currently have a large number of students riding and skateboarding to school during this Term. I would like to take this opportunity to remind all students to ride safely and observe all road rules including wearing helmets and to not ride on school grounds. We currently have a lack of space at school to correctly store the extra bikes, scooters and skateboards so we will be investigating an upgrade of our current bike shed. This will be an early focus for our dedicated P & F team next year. As we enter into the season of Advent and the beginning of a new liturgical year, it is opportune to take the time to contemplate the meaning and reason for these four weeks… Advent is a waiting time and a time of change in our world. For us in the Southern hemisphere, trees are budding and fruiting, the air is fresh and warm and the sky is blue. The natural cycle echoes the Advent mystery: we wait in hope for the coming of the Kingdom, for the end time, for the completion of creation We read from the Gospel of Luke 21:25-28. 34-36 - The message is clear and simple; ‘be alert, stay awake, watch out for the signs, and don’t let yourself be distracted by things that will give only momentary pleasure. We do not know when the world will cease to exist, but this Advent let us be assured that the Lord returns to us every time we love, forgive, share, show compassion and generosity toward one another.

IT’S HAMPER TIME!! As we enter into the ‘home stretch’ of our year, please be generous towards our Christmas Hamper appeal this week. The following suggested ideas for inclusion in our class hampers: 2016 diary; Cinema Ticket; DVD or CD; Towels; Socks; Handkerchiefs; Toiletries; T-Shirt; Toys or games for children; Vouchers; Canned Foods; Christmas Goods

MRS TAMMESILD’S FAREWELL MASS: Mrs. Catherine Tammesild is leaving St Finbar’s after 16 years of dedicated service, both as a teacher and as Deputy Principal to take on an exciting new challenge as Principal of St Paul’s in Bentleigh. We would like to farewell Catherine and thank her for all she has contributed to St Finbar’s over the years. You are invited to attend a mass in her honour on Wednesday 9 December at 9.00 am in the church. This will be followed by a whole school assembly in the hall at approximately 10.00 am. Finally, there will be a Morning Tea put on by the P&F at approximately 10.45 am in the hall. Parents, past staff and past students are invited to attend this morning tea.

CHRISTMAS WREATHS ACTIVITY ARE NOW DUE: I hope that all families have been enjoying this fun project together over the last few weeks.

The wreaths can be brought to school from Monday 30th November to be hung around the corridors of the school and the Church

as the excitement builds in the lead up to the end of the school year as part of our preparation for Advent. CAROLS EVENING: One of the very special events in Term 4 is our Carol’s evening on Wednesday 2

nd December at 6.30pm. Over the years we have

tried many different venues to cater for the large numbers of parents and friends who attend this wonderful Christmas celebration, but we keep coming back to our beautiful church where there is an atmosphere of joy and wonder as the Christmas story unfolds. This year we would like to offer a ‘matinee’ performance to ease the large numbers that will be attending in the evening. We are hoping that grandparents and special visitors will be able to join us at 10am on Wednesday 2

nd December.

SPORT NEWS ~ Mrs. Tania Thompson

Thank you...... The school staff would personally like to thank all the parents that helped drive, supervise, score & manage the teams over the Hoop Time season – a special THANK YOU goes to Fiona P, Mel R, Andrea H, Tania V, Anna T & Nikki H for taking the Jnr All Star girls on Monday to Dandenong and ensuring they were well managed throughout the day. We truly appreciate your time & efforts!

On Monday the Year 4 Junior Basketball All Stars girls headed out to Dandenong Stadium to participate in McDonalds Hoop Time State Finals. They had a fantastic morning winning all 4 pool games. Later in the afternoon they progressed all the way through to the State Grand Final losing by just 3 points. The girls should be very proud of themselves as played as a team and showed great sportsmanship all day. Many thanks must go to the team captain Mel Raymond and team manager Fiona Pirola. Thanks also to the Mums and Dads who assisted and supported the girls during the day and thanks to the girls who represented St Finbar’s with such determination.

29 November 2015 Two Advents There are two Advents – the first one preparing for the birth of Jesus Christ the

Messiah, which begins on December 17th – and the second coming of Christ as our

King and Judge, which happens at the end of the world. Both are sacred and special – it is Christ’s first coming – the birth of our Saviour at Christmas – that enables the final coming of Christ the redeemer that through his merciful judgement gives us ETERNAL LIFE. Let us XXXX the first coming well. Rejoice that our omnipotent God humbled himself to take on our human form; and grew up with parental guidance like the rest of us “He became like all of us, except in Sin”. Lord, may the humanity of Jesus and his listening response to a loving Father inspire us in our remaining years of life and so enable us to be brought to eternal life with God in Heaven.

honour on Wednesday 9 December at 9.00 am in the church. This will be followed by a whole school assembly in the hall at approximately 10.00 am. Finally, there will be a Morning Tea put on by the P&F at

approximately 10.45 am in the hall. Parents, past staff and past students are invited to attend this morning tea.
