REFLECTIONS FOR EUCHARISTIC ADORATION CHRIST TRULY PRESENT IN THE EUCHARIST

In 750 in Lanciano Italy at the Church of St. Francis a priest doubted whether the Body of Christ was truly present in the consecrated Host. As the priest celebrated Mass and pronounced the words of consecration, he and all those present saw the Host turn to Flesh and the wine to Blood. The Flesh and Blood remain intact to this day. A similar Miracle occurred in Macerata Italy in 1356 when during the breaking of the Eucharist before Holy Communion, a priest began to doubt the true presence of Jesus in the consecrated Host. “At that moment he was seized with great fear as he saw Blood begin to flow from the Host, staining part of the corporal and the chalice on the altar.” The Eucharistic Miracles of the World: Catalogue of the Vatican International Exhibition; Institute of St. Clement1, Pope and Martyr. Practice: Consider whether you truly believe in the real pres-ence of Christ in the Eucharist. Consider what you believe that presence to be. Would you be surprised if you saw a consecrated Host turn to Flesh or consecrated wine turn to Blood? Consider how merciful Christ was to His doubting priests to show Himself in these miracles. Consider from last weeks’s article how much Christ wants us to believe and not treat Him as “a dead object”. What help do you need from God to fully believe?Ask Him for it. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Every Friday 9:00am to 9:00pm in Chapel of Adoration. If you would like to join The Adoration Program at St. Frances Cabrini call or email Alice Burns 919-306-6293 [email protected]

Bible Insights Psalm 33

This is another example where the need for brevity has cheated the reader of one of the very beautiful and meaningful Psalms of Descriptive Praise. It begins: Rejoice, you just, in the Lord; praise from the upright is fitting. It goes on to invite all to acknowledge that God is the Creator of all things and keeps them in existence; who protects his creation including humans, referred to as "righteous and upright," from harm. This is the God "who foils the plans of nations and frustrates the designs of peoples. But the plan of the Lord stands forever, the design of his heart through all generations." This hymn assures us that "the Lord looks down and observes the whole human race, . . . the one who fashioned the hearts of them all, knows all their works." This is not an aloof, distant god as in the myths of the times, but rather a loving God who is interested in His people and who deserves their trust and continual praise. No one else can protect them better than God. The fear mentioned in line 8 is not terror in the presence of a dominating ruler, but is "an attitude of reverence shown to God," recognizing his goodness shown in all his works. The psalmist turns to praise and a prayer for the Lord's mercy, not in fear and trembling, but, in humble and loving recognition of who God is, ending with the words, "May your mercy, Lord, be upon us; as we put our trust in you." Psalm 33 and others like it seem to show us how much we need God, how does this challenge our American ideal of the "self-made man"? What do you think? Cathy LaDisa

Pope Francis Prayer intentions for October - General Prayer Intention - That human trafficking, the modern form of slavery, may be eradicated. Mission Prayer Intention - That with a mis-sionary spirit the Christian communities of Asia may announce the Gospel to those who are still awaiting it.

October 18, 2015 Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Life Path I walked along a path at the park one day with my family. We walked past a sandy playground, down along a wooded area, then through the picnic grounds just to get to the river. There were a lot of steps to take, but it was worth it. We took a canoe out that beautiful afternoon. The warm air settled over us comfortably as we floated along. I had a camera with me and took pictures as my hus-band and son paddled. When I took a picture of the flowers along the river's edge, I also captured their reflection in the river. This is God’s creation; a beautiful reminder that the best path is the one created by God. The path to the river was nice because it was a change of pace from the other common day to day paths I must travel. The family path. The work path. The parent path. The employee path. The friend path. These are all great paths but they are more like inlets that lead to a bigger river. Sometimes, you loose direction, having to travel so many paths. You forget about the things that make you happy, or what your passions are. It is just temporary. Your path, the one that God designed for you, is always available. What makes you tick? What makes you happy? To understand your life path, you need to identify your passions, set goals, stay focused, and not worry about what others think. There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to your own goals and your own path. When fears about how others will react or what they will think about you affect your decision making, then you are stifling your ability to follow any path. There is only one opinion that matters, and that is God. If others are so concerned with your failures they probably have not addressed their own. Be aware of what can sway you from your life path. How many times on social networking sites have you seen married friends who look happier than you? Photos of others who are vacationing somewhere exotic? Tweets and posts about others who have better jobs, more at-tractive spouses, and more successful children? Everyone seems to be happier and have more than you. This illu-sion is a trap because you may start to believe that the grass is greener on the other side. Don’t be fooled. There is no person who does not have weaknesses, problems, issues, or a history. The grass is never greener on the oth-er side, no matter how things appear. Don’t make life decisions or change a positive and productive path based on how the grass appears somewhere else. You have all need if you just bother to look at God’s green grass right be-neath your own feet. God’s grass is the perfect place to relax and stretch. Do you know that feeling when you wake up in the morning, take a deep breath, and reach your arms way over your head to stretch? Suddenly your head is a little clearer, your body more alive, and you are ready to start your day. In life you must stretch your horizons without setting limits, without thinking small. If others tell you that your life path is impossible, just remember that, in God’s eyes, nothing is impossible. God’s touch makes the grass greener than ever. Find a path and walk along it. Invite God to join you. After all, he is the Creator of the beauty that surrounds you and the clearest direction for your life path. You are never too young or too old to take this walk. Whatever talent you pursue, whatever prayer you ask, it is never too big for God. What is your path? What is your plan? What can you do today that you’ve put aside because you have felt you wouldn’t be good at it, or you would fail, or you were afraid to try? Friends, God’s path for you is not a single lane highway. There are glorious exits, amazing sights, and opportunities galore along the way.

If you don’t know where to start, go to the park and walk past a sandy playground, down along a wooded area,

then through the picnic grounds to the river. God will be waiting.
