KIKI+PUPS A MOTHER’S LOVE IS PRICELESS KiKi watches over her babies, happy to know they are all safe and cared for. An angel was watching over them and guided them to St. Francis. MEET MADDIE How could anyone resist this sweet 4 month old girl? She seems to be smiling at you. We’re hoping that with your help she can have a happy ending to her story. Maddie came in when she was 8 weeks old. She appears to be a precious mix of Border Collie or Australian Shepherd and is 100% loveable. When she came to us we noticed she snored. After being checked by our vet it was found that she has some sort of blockage in her nasal passages. Further tests are needed so this problem can be corrected and Maddie can find the family she’s dreaming of. WHO COULD RESIST THIS FACE? Levi is a very small kitten about 4 weeks old. He was brought into a vet with the scalp open. We are not sure how this happened but we think that a mower or someone cutting the grass accidentally cut him. St. Francis came to his rescue and he will be searching for a new home once he has completely healed. We are waiting to see how his vision is af- fected but his sense of smell leads him to his food and litter box. He is hoping that the purrfect home will be found. If you think that Levi is as special as we do please consider making him a part of your family. MADDIE Driving down Highway 25, we passed a very small dog looking for food on the side of the road. Worried for her safety we turned around and went back. As soon as she saw us get out she ran into the woods. Thinking she was running from being caught, we proceeded slowly because we didn’t want her to run onto the road. But she was leading us to a box that was hidden in the bushes way off the road. Inside she had 4 tiny puppies whose eyes had just opened. It’s hard to believe that someone would leave this mother and puppies hidden in the woods. Every day we see or hear stories like this so being able to help these sweet dogs made everyone happy.. KiKi is very sweet and takes good care of her puppies. We believe she is about 2-3 years old. Her puppies are now about 4 weeks old and will be ready for a new family when they’re a little older. To love when no one else loves, to give when no one else gives, to be the voice for the voiceless, to have faith when it seems all faith is lost. So very often when we rescue, we find ourselves rescued in return. RESCUE LEVI MADDIE, KIKI AND LEVI are just some of the residents at St. Francis waiting for homes of their own. If you have been thinking of a new furry friend to love then we would be happy to help you find your new best friend. Caring for animals in need is the mission of everyone associated with St. Francis. Our volunteers, supporters and adopters are an important part of our team. Without all of them, none of this would be possible. It’s impossible to define that special quality inside each of them but we are so thankful for everyone that is joining us in the effort to make the impossible possible. JULY 2014 NEWSLETTER

June 19-20 St. francis arranged a free spay/neuter clinic so that 140 dogs and cats from the Washington Parish and nearby Mississippi area would no longer risk add-ing to the population of animals needing rescue. The event was called Missisnippin and a generous grant from the IAN Somerh-alder Foundation made it all possible. Isn’t it amazing what can happen when we all work together!

We are so thankful for your kind donations and are constantly trying to find ways to help fund the sanctuary. Did you know that smile.amazon.com is the same exact website as ama-zon.com except you can select a charity to donate a percent-age of your purchase? That’s right! Just log on to http://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.smile.amazon.com%2F&h=oAQFsEOOL&s=1, select St. Francis Animal Sanctu-ary as your charity and shop as normal. Amazon.com is a great place to do your online shopping and knowing that it helps needy animals just makes it that much more rewarding!

Another great way to help that costs you nothing is to shop at the nearest Albertsons Grocery. St. Francis is part of their Com-munity Partners Program and gets 1% of sales made by shop-pers that use the St. Francis Community Partners card. We have cards available for you at our thrift store located at 813 Florida St. in Mandeville, LA. Please help us by using the card each time you shop.

A B IG THANK YOU TO THEIAN Somerhalder foundationFOR THE

MISSISNIPPIN EVENT

We hope you will consider a generous gift to St. Francis so we can continue to save many more animals like Maddie, Kiki and Levi. They will ♥ you for it!
