Civics & Economics The Civics curriculum analyzes government and politics in the United States. It examines the philosophical and constitutional bases of U.S. government, the beliefs and behaviors of citizens, the mechanisms that allow citizens to organize and communicate their interests, the structure of national, state, and local government, the processes of participants in public policy formation, and the development of individual rights and liberties. The Economics course enables students to use economic concepts in a reasoned and careful manner in dealing with the personal, community and national economic issues students confront or will confront. It emphasizes decision-making, and focuses on the economics helpful to the average person as well as preparation for university work. The tools, such as supply and demand, graphing, trade, fiscal policy and monetary policy, of the economist do, in fact, help the student analyze economic problems in the same manner as economists. This course integrates good citizenship with the understanding of economics. This class fulfills the senior year Social Studies requirement. UC/CSU approved Prerequisite: U.S. History Grade: 12
