Views from Fr. Larry Pichard, Pastor

On Monday morning we celebrate a special Mass for Labor Day at 8:30. Since this will be the only Mass that day, it will be bilingual. We will cancel the normal 6:30 pm Mass. We will pray for all who labor and for all who wish to labor but have not yet found jobs. Please join us. By the way, our office will be closed on Monday. Please pray for the men who will be attending the Men’s ACTS retreat starting Thursday evening. The retreat will conclude here at St. Francis with the celebration of the 11:30 Mass on Sunday. And please pray for me since I will be attending the retreat too. On the weekend of August 9-10 we hosted Father Francois from the Missionaries of the Holy Family. He spoke to us of the work of his congregation in many places of the world, especially in his home country of Madagascar off the coast of southeastern Africa. You responded with incredible generosity with the amazing collection of $20,000. Last year the mission collection was $14,000. So, congratulations for your ever growing kindness! Please put on your calendar the date of Saturday, September 27 for the 40th Annual Mexican Dinner and Cultural Day from noon till 8:00. Forty years is a big deal, and we are so grateful to our Mexican parishioners who sponsored this annual dinner as a generous fund raiser so that the old metal building on 3rd and Elm, our present multi-purpose building (Great Hall, classrooms, offices, meeting rooms), and our present new Church and Chapel could be built. We appreciate their sacrifices both past and present. Come see the special video documentary that we produced to describe our history and the contributions of our Founding Mothers and Fathers. Visit the booths that display how the Catholic Faith is celebrated among the various cultures that now comprise the parishioners of St. Francis. And, best of all, enjoy great Mexican food! It will all be better than any Cinco de Mayo!
