Ladies Auxiliary BAKE SALE

In the Narthex after all Masses Next weekend, October 23rd/24th.

Stop by our table and take home cookies, muffins, cakes, pies, and more!

Thank you to the St. Francis Community for supporting our St. Clare Quilt Circle Boutique last weekend. Your support and generosity will help us continue our ministry of giving prayer quilts to members in our community who are home-bound, facing a serious illness or have a disability.

Did you know you can request a prayer quilt for yourself or an immediate family member in need? Each quilt is sewn and quilted by members of The St. Clare’s Quilt Circle ministry and is blessed by Fr. Ken. To request a quilt, or for information about joining our ministry, please contact any of our members. Or call Janice Siegle (719) 210-5250 or Margaret Bogart (719) 535-2641.

Creation Care Tip: As far back as the early 13th century, St. Francis of Assisi recognized that water was a precious resource, and referred to it using the familial term 'sister'. In this way, Francis illustrated both a sense of intimate relationship with water and a deep respect for it. And why wouldn't he? Isn't water essential in sustaining human life and the life of all living creatures?!

However, in the western United States, we are currently in the midst of an historic drought. Climate scientists tell us that this drought, and other extreme weather we are seeing nationally and worldwide, are manifestations of a rapidly changing climate that mankind is contributing to by our emission of greenhouse gases.

If he were here, St. Francis would ask us to pray and reflect on our individual contribution to this problem. He would also likely ask that we each make a positive difference. Some suggestions for ways of making a difference include using less water and emitting less pollution and advocating for legislation to address climate change.

For more information on climate change and how you can make a difference check out the U. S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration website at: https://www.noaa.gov/education/resource-collections/climate/climate-change-impacts

Stroke Scan Plus will be hosting a Stroke, Vascular & Abdominal Ultrasound Screening here at St. Francis in classrooms B-C

These screenings are typically NOT performed at annual check-ups, nor will insurance companies pay for them unless you are symptomatic. Collectively, these screenings cost thousands. Stroke Scan will be offering them to you for $169 for all 7 combined. Flex Savings Accounts are accepted. Please call 866-935-7226 to schedule an appointment today. Knights of Columbus Can Complete Their Journey to the Third Degree In One Event, Sunday Oct. 24th, here at St Francis

The Mount St. Francis Knights of Columbus Council 12228 will host a simplified and updated ceremony for new candidates and first and second degree Knights to advance to the third degree which results in full Knighthood within the brotherhood.

This ceremony will be held in the St. Francis church at noon, October 24th. Other councils in the Pikes Peak region have been invited to attend. The State Knights of Columbus staff will conduct the ceremony. Families of the candidates and Knights are invited and encouraged to attend.

The revamped ceremony to the Knights of Columbus organization consolidates and shortens the process of becoming a third degree Knight, which in the past could take a year or more with three separate ceremonies. The new process can now be done at one time and be completed in about 30 minutes.

The ceremony continues to focus on the principals of Charity, Unity and Fraternity and it explains how the order’s principles are at the core of our Catholic life. The Fourth Degree remains a separate ceremony and focuses on the principle of Patriotism.

We encourage all candidates and existing first and second degree Knights to consider this unique opportunity that will be conducted after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on that Sunday. As a bonus, our dioceses new Bishop James Golka will be presiding at the 8:30 and 10:30 Masses that Sunday. Attend the 10:30 Mass, meet and hear our new Bishop, then make or complete your journey to full Knighthood.

If you are interested in attending this unique opportunity, please contact Grand Knight Bob Condron at [email protected].

Bishop Golka will celebrate Sunday morning Masses here at St. Francis

Sunday, October 24th.

Thank you!

Does humor have a place in Christianity?

With all that is happening in the world today, there is a need for levity in our lives. The Bible says that “a cheerful heart is good medicine” (Proverbs 17:22) and “the joy of the Lord is our strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). In many of his homilies, father masterfully uses humor as a way to deliver the message of the Gospel. Joy and laugh-ter are part of our heritage as children of God, just as they are part of our experience as human beings. Together with weeping and sadness they frame our experience of life.

The library has many books for enjoyment. Shelved under Fiction is Taylor Cadwell’s Grandmother and the Priests. A powerful tribute to the memory of all God’s servants, the hard-working clergy who dedicate their lives to helping others. Taylor Caldwell brings to life eleven different parishes, many of which are extremely poor. And the stories of eleven different Catholic priest—their faith, their parishioners, their work.

The founder of EWTN Global Catholic Network, Mother Angelica, has written several books that are profoundly practical, humorous, and common-sense approach to answering life's most vexing questions. Mother Angelica gently confronts your real-life struggles, lifting your heart to God and leading your soul to heaven as she provides answers from a life dedicated to God, not the promises of a world entrenched in vice. Mother Angelica’s books can be found under Spiritual Reading.

“Joy and a sense of humor is one of the signs of holiness especially needed today.” - Pope Francis, in his apostolic exhortation “Rejoice and Be Glad: On the Call to Holiness.

LIBRARY CORNER

One Nation Walking Together Christmas Toy Drive

ONWT is beginning a collection for Christmas toys and presents for children on the reservations they support. A list of specific requests is being developed and will be made available ASAP. This list will show child's gender, age and requested item. However, if you prefer to shop now, any toy that you find is perfect. Just place it in the collection box in the lower Narthex (unwrapped) and it will be taken to the collection site at ONWT. This drive will start immediately and run through November 21. Thank You!

2nd Collection next weekend for World Mission Sunday

October 23/24 is set aside for Catholics worldwide to recommit themselves to the Church's missionary activity through prayer and sacrifice and is organized by the Propagation of the Faith. Pope Francis’ message for World Mission Sunday this year reflects on the theme: “We cannot but speak about what we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:20). He reminds us that, “as Christians, we cannot keep the Lord to ourselves,” as we “recall with gratitude all those men and women who by their testimo-ny of life help us to renew our baptismal commitment to be generous and joyful apostles of the Gospel.”

On World Mission Sunday, we join our Holy Father in supporting his missions. As we pray and respond here at home, we share in those celebrations taking place in every parish and school throughout the world. Together, through our prayers and financial support, we bring the Lord’s mercy and concrete help to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope’s missions. In a world where so much divides us, World Mission Sunday rejoices in our unity as missionaries by our Baptism, as it offers each one of us an opportunity to support the life-giving presence of the Church among the poor and marginalized in more than 1,111 mission dioceses. Thank You for your generosity!

Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend James Golka

Saint Joseph’s dignity springs from his privilege of being the legal father of the Incarnate Son of God. Here, then, is a man whom the Son of God calls father, one whom he [Jesus] serves and obeys and before whom he kneels for a paternal blessing.

FEAST OF FAITH - Only Say the Word

The bread is broken, the banquet is prepared, and now we are invited to the feast. Once more the priest holds the host, now broken, for us to see, and invites us to behold the one “who takes away the sins of the world.” Truly blessed and happy are those invited to this meal, which is a foretaste of the heavenly banquet, the supper of the Lamb (Rev 19:19). We respond to this invitation with a prayer to the Lord: we acknowledge that we are not worthy, but at the same time we are confident that the One who comes to us can heal us, body and soul. This prayer echoes the story of the centurion in Luke’s Gospel. The centurion, a Gentile, asks healing for his servant, but does not consider himself worthy to have Jesus come under his roof—he believes that Jesus can heal his servant with a word, without even seeing him. Jesus is amazed at his faith. It is the same for us. We believe that Jesus speaks to us, comes to us, dwells with us, even though we neither hear his voice nor see his face. —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Send all bulletin article requests to

[email protected] by 10am the

Monday prior to the weekend you would

like it to appear. Around holidays, the

deadline will be the previous Thursday.

Why Register? It is the official way to join a parish community and shows a commitment to practice your faith. It entitles you to receive sacraments, enroll in religious education and serve as a godparent.

Parish registration creates a two-fold obligation: on one hand, the Pastor and his Apostolate of Lay People take on the obligation to serve the spiritual needs of each parishioner. On the other hand, the parishioner takes on the obligation to support the mission and needs of the parish.

Some people attend Mass at a parish for years without registering and this is why we request it.
