parishioners who are working on plans to keep our
Parish strong into the coming decades. It includes
Parish and Finance Council members, Buildings and
Grounds members, Spanish Community members,
the Parish Bookkeeper, and the school Principal.
We have 4 goals, the first of which is to identify and
pay for weekly expenses. Stay tuned for more
information in next week’s bulletin.

Catholic Quotes
"Sin is not ‘out there’; it's deep inside you and me. And
it takes great courage to kneel down in the confessional
and accuse ourselves of each sin by name."

Congratulations to the following SJB Graduates--Top
Ten Juniors at Jefferson High School: Zach Donley,
Olivia Ganser, Reese Gee, Ian Sande, and Carrie
Yerges. Top Ten Sophomores from SJB include Josie
Peterson and Megan Worzalla. Approximately 1
out of 10 students in each class are SJB grades, but 3
seniors, 5 juniors, and 2 sophomores from SJB are Top
Ten in their class! SJB students are well-prepared
to succeed in high school and beyond!
The first line of our Mission Statement is “Safe
and Caring School Family.” At SJB, we truly love
our children! We focus on educating the whole
child--we do test our children, but we don’t stop
what we are doing to prepare them for a test that
probably shows more about what they don’t know
than what they do know. Is it coincidence that our
students do so well in high school and beyond?
Congratulations to Mrs. Dona Frank, our 1st grade
teacher! She has been awarded the Kohl Foundation
Award. She joins 5 other SJB teachers: Sue Loof,
Margie Schels, Jacki Haberman, Debbie Aumann, and
Michelle Simonson. This is a great award for Dona,
and for our school! Great job, Mrs. Frank!!
April 2 is Scoopie Night at Culver’s in Johnson Creek.
“It’s a GREAT DAY to be a KNIGHT!”
As we march through Lent, it can be easy to think it's
all about sacrifice. No chocolate, no alcohol, no meat
on Fridays. Yet here, only in the second week of Lent,
we have the story of the transfiguration. This reading
reminds us of the "why" behind what we do. We don't
fast from dessert to lose weight. We don't donate
money or serve others because it's merely a nice
thing to do. Lent is about transformation!
Peter, James, and John trudged up the mountainside
behind Jesus. This must have been a difficult hike,
because when they reached the top, "Peter and his
companions had been overcome by sleep." Despite
our best efforts, perhaps we, too, can be asleep to the
deeper meaning of the Lenten season. Jesus is
transfigured while they slumber, but eventually they
become "fully awake, [and] they saw his glory and the
two men standing with him."
This is no small thing! The disciples witness Jesus in
his divine splendor and see the miraculous
apparitions of Moses and Elijah. The entire mountain
becomes a spiritual breakthrough. "A cloud came and
cast a shadow over them, and they became
frightened when they entered the cloud." These
symbols are present in the Old Testament. They are
present on Mount Sinai when Moses prayed alone
and received the 10 Commandments. Elijah had a
similar experience when he prayed alone before God.
But here are ordinary men, former fishermen, who
have been drawn up into an adventure beyond their
wildest expectations. Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah,
the fulfillment of all that came before. But Christianity
is not the religion of the elite, where only the select
few are allowed to participate. We are all invited into
spiritual transformation. Lent is a privileged time for
this! -excerpt from Liturgical Publications

Lenten Virtue Challenge
Dave Ramsey defines gossip as ‘discussing anything
negative with someone who can’t help solve the prob-
lem’. Gossip is unfair to everyone involved. Gossip is an
evil that has no place in the life of the Church. If you
won’t say what you’re saying about someone directly,
grow in virtue by not saying it at all and instead praying
for the person!
