Our big focus this week is the protection of life itself. On January 22, 1973, forty-three years ago the Supreme Court decided that it was legal to kill babies in the womb. Ever since, we Catholics, joined by many other people of faith, have been diligently working to protect the right of babies to be born. As Americans, we believe that our national Declaration of Independence is right when we say that “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” So, not only as Catholics, not only as people of faith, but also as Americans, we must protect the right to life. Bishop Farrell and our Catholic Pro-Life Committee invite you to participate in any or all of the pro-life activities on Saturday, January 16. Please see the special article later in this bulletin for more information. Obviously, the best activity is the giant Mass which Bishop Farrell will celebrate at 1:00. Or go to the website: https://prolifedallas.org/. Here at St. Francis parish next Sunday at all Masses, we will be having “White Rose Sunday,” in which a family will place a white rose on our altar in honor of our desire pray and work for the protection of life. On November 8, our parish participated in the Diocesan Campaign called “Our Faith…Our Future,” in which all the parishes of the diocese seek to raise $125 million for the improvement of our diocese. We continue to thank you for your generous pledges which have already surpassed our parish goal of $2 million and you amazingly pledged over $3.7 million. Remember that we get to keep 30% of your donations up to $2 million; once we surpass our goal, we get to keep 70% of excess donations. You have received or will receive an envelope from the Diocese of Dallas although the upper left side of the envelope will read “Our Faith…Our Future.” Enclosed will be a statement from the Diocese and a return envelope in which you will place your donation and send to the Catholic Foundation which is processing all the Campaign donations. Thanks again for wonderful generosity.

Nuestra atención esta semana está dirigida princi-palmente a la protección de la vida misma. El 22 de enero de 1973, hace cuarenta y tres años la Suprema Corte deci-dió que era legal matar a bebés en el vientre. Desde enton-ces, nosotros católicos junto con otras muchas personas de fe, hemos fervientemente trabajado para proteger los de-rechos de los bebés por nacer. ACTS RETREAT

An ACTS weekend is a three-day, three-night retreat presented by

Catholic laymen with the support of clergy and a spiritual director.

The goals of the weekend retreat is to strengthen your faith, to re-

ASTRAIOS CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERT

Astraios Chamber Music will present Dr. Brian Zator in concert on Friday, January 15, 2016, at 7pm at St. Francis. Zator, Director of Percussion at TAMU-Commerce, will present a recital of works for solo marimba. He will perform works from his new solo CD, Zamiki. The concerts include the chance to meet the performers and learn about the instruments and composers. (FREE--$10 suggested donation.) This is an organization that produces cham-ber music concerts built around audience engagement and interaction. Do you feel called to share your love of God’s Word with the parish-ioners of St. Francis? If so, please take this opportunity to discern becoming a Lector of the Word. Currently, scheduled Lector posi-tions are only available at the Sunday 11:30 am and 5:00 pm Mass times. However, trained Lectors may sub at any Mass.
