Segunda lectura — Somos ciudadanos del cielo (Filipenses 3:17 — 4:1 [3:20 — 4:1]). Evangelio — Pedro, Santiago y Juan presencian la transfiguración de Jesús en el monte (Lucas 9:28b-36).

ORACIÓN, LIMOSNA, AYUNO Y TENTACIÓN A medida que empezamos nuestro tiempo de oración, limosna y ayuno, la lectura del libro del Deuteronomio nos recuerda nuestro deber de ofrecer: “Dejarás los frutos en la presencia del Señor tu Dios, te postrarás ante él” (Deuteronomio 26:10). La lectura de la carta a los romanos nos refiere a nuestra oración, recordándonos que “La palabra está cerca de ti, en tu boca y en tu corazón . . . todo el que invoque el nombre del Señor se salvará” (Romanos 10:8, 13). Estas palabras son reconfortantes, y nos animan a pedir a Dios aquello que necesitamos y nos ayuda en nuestra oración. Por último, el Evangelio de Lucas nos muestra a Jesús ayunando, siendo tentado así como lo somos nosotros y además él entiendo lo que significa ser humano. Alguien una vez dijo que la tentación surge cuando se está cansado y rendido; y el mal viene y hace una sugerencia perfectamente razonable. DID YOU KNOW? Trained adults can take steps to prevent suspicion The Protecting God’s Children program is in place to raise awareness about behaviors of adults that may indicate a threat to the safety of children and young people. Through this program, trained adults learn how to prevent abuse from happening, in part by taking steps to eliminate suspicious behaviors, such as being alone with a young person. Creating a culture of openness and transparency goes a long way towards alleviating concerns of inappropriate behavior by adults, and helps children feel safe in their environment. ALMSGIVING, PRAYER, FASTING AND TEMPTATION

As we begin our season of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, the reading from Deuteronomy reminds us of our duty of almsgiving, that we “set [our offerings] before the Lord, [our] God, [and] shall bow down in [God’s] presence” (Deuteronomy 26:10). The reading from Romans refers us to our prayer, reminding us that “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart . . For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:8, 13). These are comforting words, and encourage us to ask God for what we need and to aid us in our prayer. Finally, the Gospel of Luke shows us a fasting Jesus, who was tempted as we are, and who knows what it means to be human. Someone once said that temptation arises when you’re tired and weary, and the devil comes along and makes a perfectly reasonable suggestion. Jesus shows us that, with his help, we too can overcome our temptations, reasonable as they may sound. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

2. También; a veces necesitan una carta para asuntos legales y si no están registrados no hay fundamento para escribirla. En algunas ocasiones se les puede ayudar porque fueron padrinos de bautismo y se encuentra la infor-mación en los récords de la parroquia.

3. Las donaciones hechas a la parroquia son deducibles de impuestos y útiles para su de-claración de impuestos cada año.

4. Su información es confidencial y no se com-parte con ninguna agencia.

5. Los sobres están fechados para cada domin-go del año y fechas especiales.

ATTENTION! ATTENTION! All young people of High School age are invited to attend City of Saints Teen Conference from August 2-4, 2019 at UCLA. The conference is hosted by Archbishop Jose Gomez. It is a wonderful, local, opportunity for young people to engage in their faith and leave empowered to live as saints within their communities. Cost is $225 per participant and includes housing, meals, and conference registration. Scholarships are also available. If you are interested in attending, please contact Victor Veloz or Jesus Mancilla by leaving a message at the parish office.

donation to the parish to help in the parish work of evangelization. For example the religious education program, although the families pay a fee for their child, the main costs are covered by the generosity of the parishioners through their Sunday offering.

2. Also, sometimes there is a need of a letter for legal matters and if you are not registered there are no informational facts available to write it. In some cases we are able to help because you may have been godparents to a child for Baptism and the information is located in our parish records.

3. The donations made to the parish are tax deductible and useful for your yearly tax returns.

5. The envelopes are dated for each Sunday of the year including special dates.
