My Dear Parishioners,
Happy Labor Day to all the workers and retired
workers who have used their God-given talents to contribute
to the well-being of our nation and family life! I always get a
little depressed when summer comes to an end but this year I
look forward to the coming weeks to see so many aspects of
our parish come to life including: our school, PREP, CYO
and various programs such as Discovering Christ.
Even though summer time is usually a quiet time in
parish life, the staff and I have been working on various
projects that positively affect parish life:
Conway Hall, which was determined to be
structurally unsafe, has now been demolished and
asphalt will soon be in its place.
Ward Hall, which has not been usable in some time
due to major leaks, will soon have a new roof to
correct the problem.
Leaks in the church were corrected and the
unsightly peeling in the ceiling will soon be
replastered.
Thanks to the CYO, the SFA Players and the SFA
Home & School, we will be restoring and cleaning
the façade of our church and school beginning this
coming week (weather permitting).
Much of the dead and overgrown shrubbery on our
property has been removed to be replaced, in the
fall and spring, with new plantings.
The rusted, old fence along the side of our church is
going to be removed and replaced with decorative
fencing.
Some of our classrooms have been professionally
repainted.
I know some of these are small projects but all of them
contribute to the beauty and future of our parish. More to
come!
In Christ,
+ Fr. Matt Tralies
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION UPDATE
The Eucharist is the heart of our parish! In the future, we
plan on making the rectory chapel into a chapel dedicated to
perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. For family reasons, I need
to make a change to our Monday adoration. Beginning the
week of September 8th, Eucharistic Adoration will be on
Wednesdays from 1pm until 8pm instead of Mondays.
Thank you for your understanding. – Fr. Matt

BREAKING OPEN THE WORD
23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ September 8th, 2019
Wisdom 9:13-18B
In what ways does your "earthly shelter" become a burden? Does
over-obsession with "Keeping up with the Joneses" distract you
from focusing on your everlasting home?
Philemon 9-10
How could you compare yourself with Onesimus? In what manner
are you a "freed prisoner" because of Jesus? Why might do you feel
more at home in the family of faith than in the shackles of this
secular world?
Luke 14:25-33
When have you felt liberated by willingly picking up your cross for
Christ? What peripheral, inconsequential burdens have you shed in
the process?

A PRAYER FOR LABOR DAY
On this weekend, when we rest from our usual
labors, loving Father, we pray for all who
shoulder the tasks of human labor—in the
marketplace, in factories and offices, in the
professions, and in family living. We thank You, Lord, for
the gift and opportunity of work; may our efforts always be
pure of heart, for the good of others and the glory of Your
name. We lift up to You all who long for just employment
and those who work to defend the rights and needs of
workers everywhere. May those of us who are now retired
always remember that we still make a valuable contribution
to our Church and our world by our prayers and deeds of
charity.
May our working and our resting all give praise to You until
the day we share together in eternal rest with all our departed
in Your Kingdom as You live and reign Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
GOD BLESS ALL WHO LABOR!! 5-175
