A MESSAGE FROM OUR PAROCHIAL ADMINISTRATOR

FINANCIAL UPDATE

Since I arrived here, one of the things I thought was important was to keep parishioners in the loop when it comes to our weekly offerings/contributions. When the Coronavirus arrived however, it’s been difficult to do a weekly update because parishioner’s offerings have been coming in at different points through electronic-giving, drop-offs and mailings. I want to thank you for your continued generosity; it’s been incredible to see! In previous bulletins, you’ve seen how we took a small hit in March and a huge hit in April, but I want to share with you numbers from the month of May.

May 2019 - $63,993.00 ++++++++

May 2020 - $67,023.66 Again, unbelievable…thank you for your continued support and love for St. Francis of Assisi Parish!

NEW PROJECT Now that the church restroom project is pretty much complete, we are moving on to another project, our gymnasium. Our gymnasium is the second most used space at our parish (behind our church). Under Fr. Costa, that space was air-conditioned, and new windows were installed…now we are going to repaint it from top to bottom. I want to thank Chambers Painting Company (parishioner) in advance because I know they will do a great job!

CONGRATULATIONS! This Saturday, Sean DeSilva became a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Usually, this takes place at the Easter Vigil, but because of the Coronavirus, we delayed it until now. A double congrats goes out to Sean…not only did he become Catholic, but he is getting ready to say “I do” this summer to Mary Caite Coll. Prayers go out both Sean and Mary Caite.

NEW RETIRED PRIEST COMING TO SFA The other month, I received a phone call from Fr. Henry (Hank) McKee about possibly living here at St. Francis; he told me he was retiring from Sacred Heart in Havertown and was looking for a parish to call home. Fr. McKee thought St. Francis would be a good spot because he is familiar with the area and he has family here in Springfield and Swarthmore. Fr. Meehan and I are glad to welcome Fr. McKee to our home because he is easy-going, was loved as a pastor over in Havertown, is known as a down-to-earth guy, and he is someone who gives homilies relevant to everyday life. I think Fr. McKee will be a great addition to St. Francis! We’ll have to figure out what he has in mind when it comes to helping us here at St. Francis and other area parishes once he arrives. Welcome! By the way, Fr. Grant is doing well over at Villa St. Joseph in Darby. From what I understand, they’ve had no cases of Coronavirus in their facility and they want to keep it that way. No priest living at the Villa is able to help area parishes until PA goes into the “green” phase. Fr. Grant loves St. Francis and is itching to get back to ministry here. In the meantime, I’m grateful to one of my best friends, Fr. Mike Speziale, for filling-in the gap.

TO CONTACT FR. MATT: Please feel free to contact Fr. Matt with any questions or comments through email: [email protected]. You can always call the rectory at 610-543-0848 ext 126. Thank you!

The Corner Brought to you by your Evangelization Team

Happy are we who are the children of God our Father, made in His image and likeness! Today, let’s celebrate not only our heavenly Father, but all the fathers in our lives: dads, granddads, uncles, brothers, cousins, and friends who have been like a father to us. Give thanks to God for all these helpers He put into our lives.

13th Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ June 28, 2020

2 Kings 4:8-11, 14-16

The Book of Kings speaks mostly in terms of the Law of Moses and Israel’s kings. This reading is personal, showing the kindness of God and His response to all our needs. Are you open to asking His help in all areas of your life?

Romans 6:3-4, 8-11 Baptism in Christ leads us “into a newness of life.” Jesus promised us a new way of living. What other religious or political leader has even dared to suggest such a change? We are not being drawn into just new rules, but a radical new way of hoping for much more in our lives. For what new way of living as a disciple of Christ are you hoping?

Matthew 10:37-42 No one lives a life without one cross or another. Some of us are called to suffering in greater ways than others. Despite our particular struggles, we must never lose sight that we are a “chosen race, a royal priesthood and a holy nation.” These are not empty promises. They are based on God’s word. What a difference we would experience if we humbly surrender to this vision of life. What personal suffering can you surrender to God at this time?

Thomas Cresta Let us pray for those who SERVE and PROTECT…

All-powerful and ever-living God, when Abraham left his native land and departed from his people, You kept him safe through all his journeys. Protect these soldiers. Be their constant companion and their strength in battle, their refuge in every adversity. Guide them, O Lord that they may return home in safety. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

BLESS OUR FATHERS

Heavenly Father, Today we ask You to bless our earthly fathers for the many times they reflected the love, strength, generosity, wisdom and mercy that You exemplify in Your relationship with us, Your children. We honor our fathers for putting our needs above their own convenience and comfort; for teaching us to show courage and determination in the face of adversity; for challenging us to move beyond self-limiting boundaries; for modeling the qualities that would turn us into responsible, principled, caring adults. Not all our fathers lived up to these ideals. Give them the grace to acknowledge and learn from their mistakes. Give us the grace to extend to them the same forgiveness that you offer us all. Help us to resist the urge to stay stuck in past bitterness, instead, moving forward with humility and peace of heart. We ask your blessing on those men who served as father figures in our lives when our biological fathers weren't able to do so. May the love and selflessness they showed us be returned to them in all their relationships, and help them to know that their influence has changed us for the better. Give new and future fathers the guidance they need to raise happy and holy children, grounded in a love for God and other people - and remind these fathers that treating their wives with dignity, compassion and respect is one of the greatest gifts they can give their children. We pray that our fathers who have passed into the next life have been welcomed into Your loving embrace, and that our family will one be day be reunited in your heavenly kingdom. In union with St. Joseph, whom you entrusted with Your Son, we ask Your generous blessings today and every day. Amen. 3-175
