St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Parish Jefferson, WI

Please note the following protocol that will be implemented for our parish during our transition back to public Masses. Please be patient and cooperative with us as we put these safety measures in place.

Please stay home if you are not feeling well, have COVID symptoms, or have been exposed to someone with COVID. The obligation to attend Holy Mass is still lifted-the faithful who are in vulnerable categories (those persons over 65 years of age or with underlying health issues, etc.) are strongly encouraged to remain at home and not attend Mass due to health risk. In accord with current public health recommendations, the faithful are required to wear face coverings when indoors. One cantor and a musician may provide music during offertory and communion however, there will be no congregational singing. Studies show that when singing, the virus can travel well over the six feet of physical distancing required. When we sing, the droplets and aerosol that carry the virus can carry as far as 15 feet and more. When we breathe in, we take extra-large breaths that bring in the air for the next phrase. All Masses will be livestreamed on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/sfajefferson Church will be open 30 minutes before Mass begins. Please do not arrive sooner so our ushers can be in place. The front doors and the new handicap accessible entrance will be the only doors you can enter at St. John the Baptist location. Holy Water has been removed. Ushers will take you to a pew-filling the front first. Every other pew will be roped off. Please distance you and/or your household 6 feet from another person/household in the same pew. Fr Tom will come to your pew to distribute Holy Communion. Holy Communion may be received in the hand or on the tongue. 2 Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will distribute to anyone sitting in their cars during Mass who may not feel comfortable being in church or if we have reached capacity due to spacing. No Sign of Peace. No books or hymnals will be in the pews. Baskets for your offering will be in church-no collection will be taken. Ushers will dismiss at the end of Mass starting with the pews closest to exits. Please wait your turn. Ushers will distribute bulletins as you are dismissed. No congregating before or after Mass.

We had to cancel the pool party that was scheduled for 8/16. School officially starts on 8/31, at 8:00 am. Protocols are in place to keep everyone at SJB safe. We so appreciate the donations that we have already received for our Classroom Sponsor initiative for this coming school year. If you are interested in helping this year in either of these areas, please contact Mr. Bare at school.

It’s a GREAT DAY to be a KNIGHT!

Gospel Meditation We are hardwired for wholeness and crave it. When something is broken, we want it fixed. If a part of our body is not working properly, we want it healed. How often do we find ourselves saying, “I’m tired of struggling with this cold, I can’t wait for my surgery to heal, or I want my treatments to make me better.” Wholeness and healing restore our relationships and make us free to love as we desire. We know very well how our limitations, imperfections, and brokenness really limit us. They can easily prevent us from being and doing what we want to do. Our physical and emotional wounds and maladies are easier to identify. If my back hurts, I feel it and know what part of my body needs attention. If I am feeling intense anger, I can identify the emotion and take necessary steps to uncover its cause. Being persistent often brings greater and quicker results. But will pursuing and even achieving our physical and emotional healings really be enough? We forget that there is a deeper healing that we seek and desperately need. As we look around at humanity, there are some physical and emotional wounds and scars that cannot be made whole. They are limitations that must remain and, for one reason or another, cannot be rectified. Does this mean that the wholeness and healing that my being longs for is not possible for me? Must I settle with less than what God promises? The answer is no. Ultimately, there is a desire that goes deeper than the physical and emotional. It is a desire that resides in our soul. What we really seek and thirst for is healing and wholeness for our soul. Inner strength, conviction, focus, grounding, love, hope, faith, courage, determination, peace, and connectedness are all words that center us on eternity. They direct us to a presence we discover in our core, which is none other than the presence of God. In God, we are healed. When we are persistent in reaching out to and establishing our relationship with God, real healing and wholeness begin to happen. There are some limitations and some of our brokenness with which we may simply have to live. This does not mean that we have to abandon our journey to wholeness and healing. If we have done our inner soul work, we have worked toward and acquired what and who we ultimately need and desire. ©LPi

Church For Our Future Our committee leaders meet on Wednesdays from 8:30-9:30 am. You are certainly welcome to join us. Our next steps will be to begin the process of raising funds for the many Building and Grounds projects yet to be complet-ed. If you are at least 70 ½ years of age and have an IRA, are you aware of the tax benefits of donating your “Required Minimum Distributions” to a charity, like St. Francis of Assisi Parish? There so many tax benefits of doing so, and the parish benefits as well. See your tax advisor for more information. Thank you so much for your support of our parish!

RCIA Information RCIA - For those interested in becoming Catholic or who simply have questions about Catholicism... We will begin a new "Inquiry period" this fall for everyone who may want to learn more about the Catholic Church and what it really teaches. This is a great opportunity for non Catholics, or Catholics who need to complete their sacraments, Attending our weekly sessions does not mean you are committing to join the Catholic Church. It just means you are interested in learning more about the church. Please call Sue Dascenzo at 608-345-5426 or Rick Helman at 920-699-4029. RCIA could use some help! If you have ever thought or might be interested in joining our leadership team at St. Francis of Assisi we would sure like to hear from you. Please contact Sue Dascenzo at 608-345-5426 or Rick Helman at 920-699-4029. We meet once a week usually from late fall thru spring.

Fall Festival Announcement Due to COVID restrictions we will just be doing the large raffle this year. Tickets will be in church and should be picked up on the following weekends: August 22, August 29 and September 5.
