St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Parish Jefferson, WI

Please note the following protocol that will be implemented for our parish during our transition back to public Masses. Please be patient and cooperative with us as we put these safety measures in place.

Please stay home if you are not feeling well, have COVID symptoms, or have been exposed to someone with COVID. The obligation to attend Holy Mass is still lifted-the faithful who are in vulnerable categories (those persons over 65 years of age or with underlying health issues, etc.) are strongly encouraged to remain at home and not attend Mass due to health risk. In accord with current public health recommendations, the faithful are strongly encouraged (but not required) to wear cloth face coverings when in public, including when they come to church. Ushers and Extraordinary Ministers will be required to wear masks. One cantor and a musician may provide music during offertory and communion however, there will be no congregational singing. Studies show that when singing, the virus can travel well over the six feet of physical distancing required. When we sing, the droplets and aerosol that carry the virus can carry as far as 15 feet and more. When we breathe in, we take extra-large breaths that bring in the air for the next phrase. All Masses will be livestreamed on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/sfajefferson Church will be open 30 minutes before Mass begins. Please do not arrive sooner so our ushers can be in place. The front doors and the new handicap accessible entrance will be the only doors you can enter at St. John the Baptist location. Holy Water has been removed. Ushers will take you to a pew-filling the front first. Every other pew will be roped off. Please distance you and/or your household 6 feet from another person/household in the same pew. Fr Tom will come to your pew to distribute Holy Communion. Holy Communion may be received in the hand or on the tongue. 2 Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will distribute to anyone sitting in their cars during Mass who may not feel comfortable being in church or if we have reached capacity due to spacing. No Sign of Peace. No books or hymnals will be in the pews. Baskets for your offering will be in church-no collection will be taken. Ushers will dismiss at the end of Mass starting with the pews closest to exits. Please wait your turn. Ushers will distribute bulletins as you are dismissed. No congregating before or after Mass.

Church For Our Future Currently, we are planning a “State of the Parish”

presentation for Sunday, July 12, at 3:00 pm in the church. We will spread seats out to provide for social

distancing, and we will provide a recording of the presentation. This will be a comprehensive first look at

where we stand as a parish. More details to follow in the coming weeks. We continue to meet in a small group to

keep the plans moving forward. Currently those meetings are on Wednesday mornings at 9:00 am at

school or via Zoom.

Knights of Columbus SCRIP News Our SCRIP program is doing very well. It doesn't cost you anything but time and planning. You pay us the gift card's

value and the SCRIP company sells us the cards at a discount. Our parish benefits the difference. Orders

received by Monday morning are processed and the cards are delivered to you before the following weekend. Thank

you to all who are participating and if you have any questions please call Rick or Sue Loof at 414-940-3540. If

at any time you have a problem using a card that you purchased through us please call us.

A survey came out to parents asking for feedback and input on your experiences this past quarter, and expectations for next year should we need to close for any period of time. We very much value your input. Thank you to those who have already filled this out.

A very dedicated group of teachers and parents have been working on our plans and protocols for opening in the fall. We are watching the guidance from the DPI as well as the Diocese of Madison. Know that we take the health and safety of our children very seriously. We will continue making plans during the coming weeks. We will communicate this with families once we complete this important process.

With the desire to open in the Fall, there may be additional expenses to the school in order to purchase protective equipment and cleaning supplies. We may be asking parents and parishioners to help in this area if needed. We so appreciate the donations that we received last year for our Classroom Sponsor initiative.

It’s a GREAT DAY to be a KNIGHT!

School News Meet the Staff

Bill Bare: Hello, St. Francis of Assisi Parishioners! I have been the Principal here at my alma mater for the last 2 years. I graduated from SJB in 1977. My ancestors, the Kemmeters, were some of the folks behind the construction of the church and the formation of the Parish many years ago. In my mom’s family, the Monogues, all of her siblings attended SJB--my

uncles were friends with Father John Urban while here. Almost all of their children, and many of their children in turn, also attended SJB, so it is very humbling to be the educational leader of this great school! Many of you gentlemen out there probably played basketball for my dad, Andy, or ladies, for my brother, Andy. I have been a member of the parish, then my whole life, except for 15 years away in Boscobel, WI. My wife Margaret and I just celebrated 32 years of marriage--we were united at St. Lawrence by Father Taylor. We have 6 wonderful daughters, and one wonderful granddaughter, who was a kindergarten student here this past year. I will begin my 32nd year in education in the fall. You should know that SJB has an amazing staff that is working very hard preparing for the challenge of a new school year in some very trying times. Every day I come to work I realize, “It’s a GREAT DAY to be a KNIGHT!” Thank you for your continued support of our parish.

Meet the Council Catherine Arndt: I am one of the two Trustees for St. Francis of Assisi Parish. I am also on the Finance Council. I have attended mass at St. Lawrence church all my life and currently help my mother with the

sacristy work there. I grew up in the country, just east of Jefferson, with my parents and younger brother. I attended Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in May of 1998. After graduation, I started working in Brookfield at Paychex, Inc., a payroll processing company, where I am still employed today. Besides spending time with my family and two precious godsons, who are now 12 and 18, I love to travel.

Congratulations to Reverend Mr. Vince Racanelli on his

ordination to the priesthood!

RCIA Candidates Special congratulations to our RCIA Candidates who were

received into the church (finally!) this past weekend: Ethan Ploch, Molly Ploch, Marcus Thoma and Carolina

Reyes. We welcome you all into our family of faith!
