Mission Statement: St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a Christ-centered family of believers, celebrating Christ alive in our lives through the inspiration of the Gospel, church teachings and traditions and the Sacraments.

We are sensitive to the spiritual and temporal needs of God’s people, acknowledging their uniqueness and dignity and are dedicated to reaching out and serving them through prayer,

liturgical celebrations and social ministries. Guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Holy Eucharist, we welcome all people with, respect and compassion. We are vigilant

in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable. In the tradition of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, we put the “good news” of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ into action.

Two items in our bulletin “dovetail” in a special way. They mark and “define” if you would, our parish in this late winter season.

I. First and foremost is our Lenten Schedule. Easter is “late” this year almost as late as it can ever be. It is tied into ancient interpretations of the Jewish lunar calendar. Greek Orthodox and Catholic compute it a different way. So Ash Wednesday is March 9th – a day we accept on our foreheads a symbol (ashes) of repentance and our willingness to embrace the cross! Please look over our Lenten Schedule carefully and even post it in a prominent place in the house. There are different kinds of events planned; so please look them over and prayerfully consider which ones apply to you! Make every effort to attend. Invite family members, friends and neighbors!

II. Also “defining” our year – particularly our parish social year – is the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance! Here is a chance just as winter ends (and it has been quite a winter!) to come together and celebrate a heritage of faith and culture that we can all identify with. St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday (and a Holy Day!) that brings out the joy and camaraderie in just about everyone. Ticket prices are the same as last year – call the rectory now for a reservation!

III. Pat Brennan, our CMA (Appeal) chairperson, is speaking at all Masses today. Please give him a “good hearing” and hopefully begin to make the decision of what your pledge for this year will be! (The chairperson is crucial to the success of the Drive – he will also report to the parish on our standing in late spring!

Bulletin Reflection In today’s first reading, the Israelites are urged to love their neighbors as them-selves. In the Gospel, Jesus spells out how we are to do that-to give generously to those who ask of us and not to turn our backs on those who seek to borrow.

Living Stewardship

We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who strive to see the humanity in everyone, not by judging others, but rather, by serving them.

Paul Koleske Concert & Reflection

Sunday March 6th 2:30 pm St. Francis of Assisi

Catholic Church Paul Koleske is a Contemporary Catholic Christian Musician, Singer, Songwriter, Speaker, and Recording Artist. He has 2 CDs and his third is set to be released in Summer 2011. He travels the United States of America conducting Parish Missions, Concerts & Reflections, Retreats, and Youth Ministry Events.

Sunday March 6th @ 2:30 pm in St. Francis of Assisi Church, after assisting at all Masses, he will be offering a

pre-Lenten Concert of his Inspired Music and Inspirational Spoken Reflections.

His Catholic Music & Speaking Ministry began after a miraculous experience on December 12, 1993 (which he will share in his presentation).

Paul’s Concert & Reflection Series have been called a “mini personal retreat” by those who’ve experienced a lifting of heart, mind, and soul.

His music and spoken reflections will provide you with an increased sense of peace, insight and inspiration for your spiritual well being.

This is far more than a musical event and you are welcome to bring family and friends to hear his witness and see how it can affect your life

as a Catholic Christian. The concert is free. A free will offering will be

accepted to help Paul’s ministry.

“If someone who has worldly means sees a brother in need and refuses him compassion, how can the love of God remain in him? Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.” I John 3: 17-18

RESPECT LIFE NEWS The Magisterium of the Church has costantly proclaimed the sacred and inviolable character of every human life from its conception until its natural end (cf. ibid., n. 57). This moral judgment also applies to the origins of the life

of an embryo even before it is implanted in the mother’s womb, which will protect and nourish it for nine months until the moment of birth: “Human life is sacred and

• inviolable at every moment of existence, including the initial phase which precedes birth.” (ibid.,n. 61). Pope Benedict XVI, “The Human Embryo in the Preimplantation Phase” February, 2006 • Have you seen the white crib in our St. Francis of Assisi

Baby Corner? Many of our parishioners have asked what they can do to help our needy moms and their precious babies. Please pray for them and our spiritually adopted babies. We have some moms who do not know how they can possibly take care of their (unborn and born) babies. Also, we can use Huggies and Pampers diapers sizes 4, 5, and 6, baby coupons, and money. Yes, we do accept opened packages of diapers. If you have left over diapers, especially pull ups, we can use them. Also, we thank you for the toiletries from your travels. Our moms really enjoy them. Our Baby Corner has assisted 170 families

materially, emotionally, and financially. Thank you through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Francis for all you continually do for our precious babies. Need assistance? Wish to join our RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE? Please call our rectory at 631-757-7435. • The Life Center of Long Island at 631-243-2373. Call for

help with a crisis pregnancy, healing after an abortion, or to donate baby equipment. The Life Center’s Life Line is open 24 hours, 7 days a week at 631-243-0066. For

information on a retreat weekend for men and women seeking healing after an abortion experience, call Frank Gariboldi 516-523-0586 or e-mail [email protected].

Please continue to pray each day for all our precious babies— born and unborn—and their parents!!!

Pray the rosary for the conversion of America’s heart to end abortion.
