Diocese of Johannesburg

Anglican Church of Southern Africa

23 September 2018

EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Season of Creation

Lord God, you gather up the fragments

so that nothing may be lost:

alert us to our carelessness and wastefulness

and teach us to share from the abundance in our midst;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

”No longer, then, do we judge anyone by human standards. Even if at one time we judged Christ according to human standards, we no longer do so.  Anyone who is joined to Christ is a new being; the old is gone, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:16-17

THE PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH

PRAYERS FOR THE CHURCH

We pray for the Anglican Church of Tanzania Mpwapwa - (Tanzania) The Rt Revd Jacob Erasto Chimeledya. We pray for Steve our Bishop and our Diocese; for Thabo our Metropolitan and the Anglican Church of Southern Africa; for Justin of Canterbury and the Anglican Communion.

PRAYER FOR THE WORLD

As we reflect on the mysteries of the ocean depths, we celebrate the wondrous design of the seas that surround us. Help us to discern how we have polluted our oceans and to empathize with the groaning of creation. Teach us to know the presence of God in the tides and currents of the seven seas. Teach us to care for the oceans and all our waterways. PRAYERS FOR PARISHIONERS

SEPTEMBER: SEASON OF CREATION

“In God's hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all humankind." Job 12:10

As Spring arrives with signs of new life so we celebrate creation. We celebrate our world in all its abundance and offer our care as its stewards to a future in which we honour God's grace, bounty, goodness and the creative possibilities unfolding in and all around us.

ECO OUTING TO RIETFONTEIN NATURE RESERVE

We have booked the reserve for Saturday 29 September for a walk as part of our Season of Creation. The reserve is a 25 hectare green space in the little suburb of Paulshof, next to Sunninghill. There is a beautiful 2.5km circular walking trail that is well maintained and provides a lovely pathway from which to sight the myriad birds and some buck that make this reserve home. The cost will be R50 per person as we have had to pay a booking fee. The limit is 20 people as more is not practical. We will leave from the car park at 07h30 and completes the trail in about an hour. For those who wish, we shall have a bring-your-own picnic breakfast at the picnic site. There is a booking list at the back of the church and a picture of the reserve and trail. Bookings are on a first come first serve basis. Direction will be sent to you if you book.

ECO QUOTE

The sea, the great unifier, is man’s only hope. Now as never before the old phrase has a literal meeting: we are all in the same boat
