New Year - New Happenings
As we enter into a New Year we have some exciting things going on at St. Francis Xavier. In early February we will move into our new narthex. Thank you for all of your patience dur-ing our construction. We are also working on the church windows and having them repaired and sealed. You will notice the brightness of our stained glass in a new way! Here are a few spiritual events to keep on your radar that are coming up:
We have a great opportunity to host a nationally known speaker and to have an early Valentine’s Day celebration. Fr. Leo Patalinghug will be joining us on Wednesday Feb. 6 for a very special event entitled, “Spicing Up the Married Life.” Fr. Leo has appeared on EWTN and Throwdown with Bobby Flay. He has a ministry called Plated Grace. You can learn more about his mission at www.FatherLeoFeeds.com.
Tickets can be purchased at shop.fatherleofeeds.com website.$25.00 per single ticket. $45.00 per couple. Special Mass 6:00pm (open to all - no ticket necessary) in the main church.
Ticketed Dinner & Presentation at 6:30pm in Xavier Hall. 405 Howe Street, Brunswick GA

We are excited to announce that the relics of St. Anthony of Padua will be coming to
our church! On Saturday Feb 23 some Franciscans priests will bring the relics of this
great saint to our church for prayer and veneration. Veneration will begin at 1 p.m.
The Franciscan Friars invite you to join them in welcoming St. Anthony of Padua to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. St. Anthony will be visiting you in the form of two precious and first-class relics from the Pontifical Basilica in Padua, Italy. The relics will be accompa-nied by Father Bortolino Maistrello, one of fifty-four OFM Conventual Franciscan Friars who minister in the Basilica where the Saint is buried. This is the Franciscan order of St. Francis of Assisi. St. Francis and St. Anthony of Padua knew each other during their lifetime in the 13th century.
Prayer petitions with holy cards will be distributed by Friar Bortolino to allow parishioners to write their personal prayer petition to the saint. The writing of your intentions is a worldwide tradition when venerating a relic of a saint. Father Bortolino will bring the petitions back to the Basilica in Padua and place them at the tomb of St. Anthony. The tour officially ends back at the Tomb of St. Anthony where the Friars will gather to pray for the saint’s interces-sion upon our intentions and petitions. To learn more about St. Anthony of Padua, please visit: www.saintanthonyofpadua.net
This Lent we will offer Level II of Christ Life which is called Following Christ. It would be
open to all who have completed Level I which is called Discovering Christ. If you have
completed Discovering Christ (or are currently in it) and would like to sign up for the Len-
ten session please use the clipboards at the back of the church or contact Ann at the of-
fice at: [email protected].

Window Renovations: As part of our renovation programs
the Parish Council recommended that we include our church
window coverings. A company specializing in this work,
Lynchburg Stained Glass, came in last week and removed
the old Plexiglas from the sides and the front of the church.
As you know, the old Plexiglas was very yellow from age and
scratched. I have put some samples on the easels by the
church entrance. When I put three pieces together I could
barely see my hand behind it! They then worked on cleaning
the stained glass and the wood framing to return it to its origi-
nal beauty. All of the wood framing was repaired, primed and
painted. Any glass panels that are cracked or have holes will
be repaired or replaced. We found that some of the wood
frames in front of church had rotted due to water and the
salty air. They will remove the bottom panels of the Marian
window and place new wood framing in. The final step will be
to place vented aluminum framing and laminated safety glass
around all the windows. You will notice more light coming into
the church and more vivid colors from the windows. The cost
for this project is $69,948 and should protect our windows
and keep them maintenance free for the next fifty years. The
window renovations should be completed by Feb. 15 and will
match up nicely with the new narthex! You can go to our
church website to see some photos of the repair work.
Prayers and gratitude to our outgoing Parish Council member and Pres-
ident Rose Mary Jones. Rose Mary has led our council during our reno-
vations, our 150th celebration and was instrumental in creating a beau-
tiful pictorial directory for the parish. May God generously bless her for
her service! Alan Borst has been elected new President. We also wel-
come aboard some new parish council members: Mike Carter, Brian
LaBudde, Clay Rogers and Stacey Rogers. Thank you for your willing-
ness to serve!

Last week we began the Bishop’s Annual Appeal for 2019.
This year’s theme is “Who is my neighbor?” Your sacrificial
gift and prayers will help make this year’s appeal a success.
Our parish target is $ 58,467 and we can do this if, after
thoughtful consideration and prayer, everyone participates
according to our ability.
We would like for this year’s numbers to be a little more ac-
curate, so we are asking you to send your pledges and pay-
ments directly to the Diocese of Savannah using the BAA en-
velope. Please make sure to write your check to Diocese of
Savannah with St. Francis Xavier Church in the memo line so
we get credit.
