Dear fellow Parishioners

A few weeks ago Father Chuck called a meeting for Ushers, Lectors, and Extraordinary Ministers to review the duties of each ministry and to answer any questions that any minister may have. I would like to say that it was an honor to be sitting in the church with so many faithful servants who weekly assist our Clergy in the Liturgy. Although our priest is in persona Christi during the Mass, each ministry helps in having the mass move smoothly. To be part of, and actively participate in assisting at the Mass is something I think every person in this meeting takes seriously and believes in the miracle that happens on the Altar. Maybe a few more would consider being part of this group of volunteers. Ushers are the first face of the church that parishioners and new comers see, I’ve seen these men help with parking cars, assist in helping people to their seats, handing out bulletins, answering questions and happily greeting church goers. Then during the offertory, collecting donations, bringing up the gifts and anything else that may be necessary…. Going over and above what is expected. This would be a wonderful place for our youth to start in helping at mass. Lectors, Ministers of the Word prepare beforehand reading the Word of God. What a privilege to proclaim the words of our Lord. They arrive early, checking with the presider on anything special that may be happening within the Liturgy of the Word, for exam-ple is there a Sequence reading, or during Lent we have options of reading the passages suggested for RCIA people, will the Responsori-al Psalm be sung by a Cantor or will the Lector be reading the Psalm, preparing for the Prayer of the Faithful, returning to the Ambo so as not to create lag time between the Creed and the Prayer of the Faithful, so many things to remember while being understood in dic-tion, pace and rhythm. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EM’s). The Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are the Priest and Deacon. EM’s are appointed in situations of pastoral need when ordinary ministers are insufficient in numbers. Not only do EM’s assist in dis-tributing the Body and Blood of Christ during mass, but they also bring Communion to the sick and elderly of the community. To serve as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion persons must be practicing Catholics, at least 18 years old, have received the sacra-ments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, with the regular use of the sacrament of penance, and demonstrate a deep reverence for and devotion to the Holy Eucharist. For any of these ministries it is so important that in choosing to participate in the mass as a leader we honestly look at ourselves to see that we are living our faith and morals guided by the church’s teachings. In being part of the Liturgy of both the English and Spanish masses, I am so proud of both communities for the reverence and love that I see from all who serve. Thank you so much in giving of your time and talents.

God bless you, Joan NipeDirector of Liturgical Music

Queridos hermanos feligreses...

He visto a estos hombres

CATHOLIC STRONG CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

The Catholic Community of South Jersey continues to reaffirm its commitment to promote the healing, redemp-tive and teaching presence of Jesus Christ to those seek-ing solace, forgiveness and instruction. We have fol-lowed Christ’s invitation to love one another, to be a community of faith, and to share our gifts in a spirit of stewardship and gratitude.

As vital and active members of the Diocese of Camden wishing to make our contribution, we are beginning the Catholic Strong Campaign to provide resources needed to strengthen our parishes and Catholic education, expand our outreach and enhance our social services. A success-ful campaign will ensure the vitality of our faith commu-nities and ultimately meet the evolving needs of our Diocese.

Every parish will share in these efforts with an allocated goal. Our parish campaign target is to raise a minimum of $825,000, of which we will receive 70% [or a mini-mum of $577,500], that will go toward parish needs. We will receive 80% of all funds raised over our parish target. The funds will be used to address the following needs: Corpus Christi ChurchNew floor and plan to add seating

and refurbish pews $150,000

Saint Mary ChurchStained glass window restoration $125,000*

Hiring of a youth minister [$25,000/year for 5 years] $125,000

New roofs on Corpus Christi Church & Rectory $ 82,500*

Parish Center Parking Lot Restoration $ 40,000

New airconditioning units for Msgr. Rocco Hall $ 35,000

 Security Upgrades $ 20,000

We are asking our parish family to lend generous support to the campaign. As our current parishioners, we now call upon you to carry on the generosity, spirit and sacrifice that filled the hearts of the men and women who have supported our parish and diocese throughout our history.

As we have been blessed, let us act as stewards by supporting the Catholic Strong campaign to preserve the essence of what we and all of the faithful within the greater Church in South Jersey are blessed to have and to ensure the Church’s presence in the lives of our children and grandchildren. Let us continue to show the power which blessed the first apostles to our parish and diocese. Your prayers, generosity, and sacrifice will ensure our success.

God Bless, Father Chuck
