Saint Gabriel the Archangel Saddle River

In today’s readings we find ourselves being drawn more deeply into relationship with Jesus. We are getting to know more about him as we see how he struggles with the news of his cousin John’s arrest. His first response is to withdraw, to leave Nazareth and go to Capernaum. There he is perhaps both consoled and challenged by the words of Isaiah that Matthew quotes: “the peo-ple who sit in darkness have seen a great light, on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death, light has arisen." Jesus contem-plates his cousin’s death, perhaps his own death, and he seeks the light. Maybe it is these words of Isaiah that move Jesus out of his withdrawal and into action. He begins to preach, teach, cure dis-ease and illness, and proclaim the gospel of the kingdom. Peace, Fr. Frank

MAKE IT A GOOD DAY

A good day is one spent in God’s presence. Start the morning by offering your efforts to God. Throughout the day, look for evi-dence of his nearness to you as you go about your business. Don’t let minor irritants affect your mood. “I don’t care to inquire why they cannot believe an earthly body can be in heaven, while the whole earth is suspended on nothing”

St. Augustine, City of God

REPORTING SEXUAL ABUSE

The Archdiocese requires us and all parishes to provide the following in-formation to the general public. We do so here as a sign of our commit-ment to the safety of our children. In every activity of St. Gabriel’s Parish,

parents are encouraged to participate. Every employee and vol-unteer has passed a background check. Mrs. Patricia Pula serves as our Safe Environment Coordinator. The Archdiocese takes very seriously any and all allegations of sexual misconduct by members of the clergy, Religious and lay staff of the Archdio-cese. We encourage anyone with knowledge of an act of sexual misconduct to inform us immediately so that we may take appro-priate action to protect others and provide support to victims of sexual abuse. Individuals who wish to report an allegation of sexual misconduct may do so by calling the Archdiocesan Office of Child and Youth Protection at (201) 407-3256.

St. Gabriel's continues to collect Box Tops for St. Michael's School in Newark. The Box Top program is one of the nation’s largest school fundraising loyalty programs and has been helping schools succeed since

1996. With over 250 participating products, it’s an easy way for schools to earn cash for the things they need. Each Box Tops coupon is worth 10¢ and they add up fast! The coupons are on products we buy at our local supermarkets everyday. St. Michael's will be able to use the Box Tops cash to buy whatever they need most, from books to supplies and other school pro-grams. So please look for these coupons on your groceries and start to clip. There is a collection box display in the lobby of the church. As always, thank you for your support of St. Michael's.
