St George’s C of E School FRIDAY NEWS
Friday 12th July
This week a fifth pupil gained Rock Hero status on Times Table Rockstars – well done ‘Matthew Bay’ for
completing questions in less than one second! We have been encouraging children to use TT Rockstars
and Mathletics daily in school to increase their fluency of their recall of mental facts. As we approach the
summer holidays, please could we ask that you encourage your child to continue with TT Rockstars (Years
2-6) and Mathletics (Years 1-6) as frequently as possibly. Little and often is always the best strategy. This
helps to ensure they retain these essential facts and will limit the need to reteach them in September. We
look forward to finding out if we have any more Rock Heroes in September.
Congratulations to Gold Base who completed the Skipathon last week raising money
for the British Heart Foundation. They completed over 15000 skips as a class and so far have raised £130. Thank you to everyone who supported them. Please bring your final monies to the office by Monday so we can bank it before the holidays
I can’t believe we have only 5 days left this year!
Last Friday I had the pleasure of accompanying our wonderful year 6 children on a trip to Salisbury Cathedral for a very spe-
cial Leavers Service. The children were amazing, they participated in all the activities and the performance with enthusiasm
and were a real credit to our school. The service was very moving and engaging as over 160 children from schools all across
the Salisbury Diocese performed the Parable of the Mustard Seed along with RISE theatre group. Bonnie led the banner pa-
rade out of the cathedral as the music played. A big thank you to Mrs Martin, Rev. Kirsty, Mrs Allard and Miss Maidment for
accompanying the children and taking part in the day.
This week I received our SATs results and a copy of the children's results will be coming home with their reports today. I am
so incredibly proud of the children for what they have achieved this year due to their hard work and effort. As I always say,
Maths and English skills are so important but things like social skills and manners are of equal importance in life and our
children shine at these! Well done to all our year 6 and Mrs Westerman-Loe and Mrs Shears.
On Thursday 18th July, at 2pm we are holding our Leavers’ assembly for the year 6 children. Please join us when we wish
them good luck on the next part of their journey. Even if your child isn’t in year 6 you are most welcome to attend.
Another highlight next week will be the performance of Panto Pandemonium by Gold Base.
Please join us for a truly entertaining show in the Marquee—don’t forget to bring your picnic!
Have a lovely weekend.

End of Year Party to celebrate our
Leavers – Friday 19th July at 6pm
A reminder that this is a lovely
opportunity for the whole school
community to come together for a
party, and to say goodbye to our
leavers. Please come along to enjoy
the evening together as a whole
school.
This years theme is “Bourton Battle”.
Waitrose in Gillingham have kindly agreed to allocate
St George's PTFA a slot in their green token scheme
during the month of August. Please look out for it and
encourage family and friends to support. And our
thanks to Waitrose for this valuable support for our
school!
Each month we will be focusing on one of our School
Christian values in our classrooms and school assemblies.
The value for July is;
Come in Home Clothes on Monday in exchange for a
jar full of sweets for the PTFA stall on Village day!
St George’s Swimming Gala
Congratulations to all the Yr R and 1 children who
gave parents a swimming display and all the other
children who took part in the gala. Chaffeymoor were
the overall winners. Well done everyone.
Bourton Village Day is being held on the afternoon of July
21st on the school field. The PTFA need volunteers to help with opening the pool,
running a cake stall (also need cakes!), a book stall (also need books you might be clearing out) and a fun “marshmallow
driving competition” which is when you whack a marshmallow as far as possible using a golf club.
What can you do to help? PTFA benefits from the money
taken from any stalls we run so please put your hands up and get in touch with your offers of time, cakes or books for this
community event. You can contact the committee via the PTFA Facebook page (St George’s School, Bourton PTFA Group)
Party in the Park – Tuesday 16th July at 5.30pm
This is a lovely event for the whole school community to bring a picnic tea and be entertained by our musicians,
choir and Gold Base children. This years production is Panto Pandemonium. Come along and look out for the
Giant, Witch, dwarfs and of course the pantomime cow.
We charge adults and children older than primary age a flat rate of £2 on the door, this helps to pay for the
marquee. There is a large area to set up picnics on the floor, or you can sit on seats around the outside. To make
sure everyone can see the action on the stage we ask that you don’t bring chairs if you set up a picnic on the floor.
There is no matting in the tent this year so please bring a rug if you plan to sit on the floor.
Reports – Friday 12th July
End of year reports will have come home
today with the SATs results.
Summer Swimming
This summer the PTFA will be opening up the swimming pool
during the holidays from 2-4pm and on Saturdays and Sundays
during term time, unless the pool has been privately hired. There
is a limit of 20 children at a time in the pool so if it is busy please
be prepared to wait. £2 a swim per child for 2 hours.
If you would like to privately hire the pool please see Mrs Hudson
in the school office for details.
As a reminder, children must be supervised by a parent/carer at
all times while they are in the pool.
Please remember NO FOOD is to be consumed around the pool
area.
Leavers Service – Thursday 18th July, St
George’s Church at 2pm
This service is to thank God for our
wonderful Year 6 children and those
who are leaving us at the end of the
year. We hear from each of the Year 6
children about their memories of being
at our school, present them with a Bible
each and award our cups and trophies.
Please join us in Church.
Helen Hibberd Hike — We are planning to hold the rearranged ‘Helen Hib-
berd Hike’ on the morning of Friday 19th July—please note the change of
date! We are going to end our term with a whole school hike around our
beautiful village. Please let us know if you are planning on joining us.
The children will need suitable footwear for walking up and down fields! Check the
weather forecast nearer the time as it could be a coat or suntan cream sort of day!
