Attention Parents When children need to use the bathrooms in the Church, during or after Mass, it is strongly recommended that an adult accom-pany them. This is not meant to alarm any-one but merely to underscore the simple fact that St. Gerard’s is a very safe and nurturing environment. Our aim is always to protect our children.

Homebound Ministry Deacon Dan and Eucharistic Ministers bring the Holy Eucharist to many of our fellow parishioners who are unable to leave their home to attend Mass. Within this very important ministry, we as a parish community are able to extend ourselves in a real and important way to many of our fellow parishion-ers who are permanently disabled or physically un-able to make the trip from their home to church. We would like to expand this program to other pa-rishioners who may be temporarily disabled due to a recent medical procedure or who may simply be unable to find transportation from home to church. If you are aware of any person who is unable to make their way to church for whatever reason, please contact the parish office and we will make sure they are included on our homebound list.

Operation Lazarus Our Youth Ministry students return to the Boston Common monthly to feed and clothe the homeless. Their faces always brighten when they see our van pull in and they are always so grateful for the gener-osity of our Parish. If you would like to donate to this worthwhile program, there are envelopes for your use at the right door exit to the back parking lot.

Contributing families for November were: Desjardins, Roach, Allen, Gallery, Donovan, Falconi Peters, M. Murphy, Staffiere and MacSweeney

Sojourner House Once again this Christmas our Giving Trees were overflowing with your abundant donations! St. Gerard’s parishioners always come through most generously for those less fortunate. On behalf of the Sojourner House needy families, the youth ministry sends their heartfelt thanks to all of you who contributed. These gifts will help to make a very bright Christmas for those being sheltered there and will continue to help them through the coming year. As always they expressed their awe at St. Gerard’s huge generosity. They send heartfelt thanks , their love and best wishes.

Christmas in the City Over 100 Canton high school students and 20 adult advisors travelled into Boston’s Convention Center this past weekend, volunteering their time and energy to make one bright and merry day for the disadvantaged families of Boston. There was lunch, arts and crafts, rides, entertainers, presents, and visits from Santa! The volunteers worked all day Saturday preparing and setting up the space for over 500 families. Sunday they all returned, decked out in Christmas garb to welcome the wide-eyed children and amazed parents with enthusiasm! There, the joy and the true spirit of Christmas enters the hearts of both givers and receivers. Watch for pictures in the coming weeks!

Operation Lazarus Despite the snowy conditions, freezing temps and slick roads our teens battled through all to give the home-less in the Boston Common a Merry Christmas meal, hats, scarves, blankets and jackets as well as some small treats. Good Job again.

Hope House A fun time was had by all with gift giving, food, music, games and stories told for our mentally disabled friends at this gathering place. Our teen group planned it all and gave of themselves to make a happy time for all who come here to socialize.

Father Bills Their monthly trip to this soup kitchen in Quincy once again made happy the 100’s of homeless who go there for dinner. Our teen’s famous stir-fry chicken dinner is always a great hit and along with dinner they provided some special Holiday cheer with smiles, Santa hats and as always a good ear for listening to these men & women and their stories.

******************************************************************************************************

Please keep our parish Youth Ministry and their advisors in your thoughts and prayers that they continue to do all their good work for those less fortunate. Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Meet Msgr. McDonough— A Priest and a GeneralAs a native of Boston, Msgr. John P. McDonough never dreamed he would travel the world, bringing the presence of Christ to our military serving abroad. But for thirty years, that’s exactly what he did. As a two-star general, Msgr. McDonough’s call as a military chaplain was to ensure that men and women were able to practice their faith—Catholic or otherwise—as they served their country.

Now at 88 years of age, Msgr. McDonough reects on a priesthood well-lived and well-served. He resides at Regina Cleri, a retirement home for senior priests in Boston, where he ministers to his brother priests, celebrates Mass with them daily, and continues traveling to parishes around the Archdiocese to assist with services.

To help ensure priests like Msgr. McDonough are cared for as they age, please support the Christmas collection this year.
