MEET YOUR PARISHIONERS
Allow us to introduce you to Mr. & Mrs. Jesus & Remedios Ong. This happy couple are origi-nally from the Philippines and immigrated in 1971 to the Chi-cago, Illinois area where Jess worked as a CPA at South Shore Hospital for 39 years before becoming the hospital CEO for 14 years. Remy is a registered dietician. The couple moved to Buck-eye in 2014. They have three married sons and eight grand-children. Jess serves as a member of our parish council. Remy has won several times at our annual chili cook-off with her unique chili recipes. They participate in the Filipino choir that sings at our 3
rd Sunday of
Advent "Simbang Gabi" Mass. Both embrace a spirit of joyful ser-vice and commitment to their Catholic faith.
Favorite Saint: St. Teresa of Calcutta
Bible Passage: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the king-dom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3)
Family Motto: “Love is the main ingredient of the family."
ROSE . . . not pink
Next Sunday is the 3rd
Sunday of Advent. As we approach the Feast of our Savior’s Nativity, we use rose-colored vestments to symbolize that the time for celebration is near. We do the same on the 4
th Sunday of Lent.
I like to say that when the purple color of Advent is mixed with the white color of Christmas (or Lent & Easter respectively) we get a rose color that expresses our an-ticipation of joy. Also, imagine centuries ago when ordinary people, often illiterate and uneducated, did not think about time in the calendar-like fashion as we do so to-day, but rather structured their lives around seasonal changes, customs and cultural expressions. For them, the Church’s use of rose color was using a simple non-verbal way to indi-cate that Christmas was near. We can do the same. Consider wearing rose-colored clothing to Mass next weekend as an expression of expectation.

Diciembre 09, 2018 Segundo Domingo de Adviento
ROSADO . .
