It seems the father in the gospel today
has exhausted all human remedies and re-
sources to help his sick and dying daugh-
ter. In great humility Jarius this synagogue
official comes to Jesus for help. He wanted
Jesus to do something before it was too
late. Then he hears those devastating
words “your daughter is dead.” It seems
nothing can be done. Yet it is never too
late for people who have faith. As Jesus
says “do not be afraid just have faith.” All
too often we forget the spiritual remedies
and resources faith offers. God wants us to
be imperishable, as the scriptures remind
us. The father dismissed the voices of
gloom and trusted the voice of Jesus
Christ. Divine power.
We must do the same. Many situations
seem impossible beyond our power to
change. Yet faith is like a magnet drawing
Gods power into our lives. St. Paul reminds
us “we have become rich by Christs pov-
erty. From the riches of heaven He came to
give us access to his divine power. Jesus
is the answer to every human problem. By
faith He will raise us up and draw us clear,
preserve our life and turn our mourning in-
to dancing.

Eucharistic Adoration
Our Monday day of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament ended on Monday, June 11th and will re-sume in September. Many thanks for all your spent time in prayer and adoration before the Lord. No doubt your prayer brought many favors and blessings to our parish community.

can be found at archphila.org/hope The opioid addiction has reached epidemic proportions and rates are especially high in the stat of Pennsylvania. In addition, pornography ad diction is destroying marriages at an alarming rate. Addiction, no matter what form it takes, is causing much suffering in the lives of many of our Archdiocesan families and they are looking to the Church for hope and help. The Hope in Christ webpage will serve as a centralized location where families can find the spiritual support they need in their time of suffering.

Look What’s New!
A beautiful new statue of St. Therese of Lisieux now graces our grounds in front of our Parish Center. The statue is a gift from Mrs. Helen Toland in memory of her late husband Dr. Joseph Toland who passed away in 2016. We are most grateful to Mrs. Toland for her most generous gift and also for the beautiful stone pedestal. This new addition to our grounds instills in us a sense of prayerfulness and quite re-flections. Mrs. Toland generosity will be a blessing for gener-ations to come.

Spring & Summer Projects A new lighting system is being installed in the front driveway. These new lights will brighten up the pathway leading to Church which because of the darkness especially in the winter has become hazardous. Funding will be provided from
monies donated from our generous benefactors to the Jubilee and Heritage of Faith, Vision of Hope Campaigns.

The Theology of the Fourth of July
July 4 is a religious holiday. For this insight, thank John F. Kennedy
On July 4, 1946, Kennedy — then 29 years old, the Democratic nominee for a Massachusetts
Congressional seat, and still a lieutenant in the Navy Reserve — was the featured speaker at
the City of Boston’s Independence Day celebration. He spoke at Faneuil Hall, the red-brick
building where long ago the colonists had gathered to protest taxes imposed by King George
III and his Parliament.
Kennedy began by talking not about taxes, or about the British, or about the consent of the governed, but about religion. “The informing spirit of the American character has always been a deep religious sense. Throughout the years, down to the present, a devotion to funda-mental religious principles has characterized American though and action,” he said.
For anyone wondering what this had to do with Independence Day, Kennedy made the con-
nection explicit. “Our government was founded on the essential religious idea of integrity of
the individual. It was this religious sense which inspired the authors of the Declaration of
Independence: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that
they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. ’” It was a theme that Kennedy would return to during the 1960 presidential campaign, when, in a speech at the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, he described the Cold War as “a struggle for supremacy between two conflicting ideologies; freedom under God versus ruth-less, Godless tyranny.” And again in his inaugural address, on January 20, 1961, in Wash-ington, D.C., when he said, “The same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe — the belief that the right of man come not from the gen-erosity of the state but from the hand of God.”
So amid all the fireworks and barbecue smoke this July 4, consider pausing for a moment to reflect on
the one our founding fathers called the Creator. As Kennedy realized, the American Revolution — and
thus the country we live in today — started with God, and with the Founders’ belief in rights that are his
gift to us. Whatever your religious views, or lack of them, if you are an American, it’s at least worth un-
derstanding the idea on which our nation was founded. By Ira Stoll
