Liturgical Life at St Ignatius Parish Vatican II declared that the “Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself…” Since the Christian life is essentially a spiritual life, the Eucharist is the "source and summit” of Christian spirituality too. “To say the Eucharist is the "source and summit of Christian spirituality" means at least two things. First, that Christian spirituality flows from the Eucharist as its source, the way light streams forth from the sun. And second, that Christian spirituality is supremely realized in and ordered to the Eucharist as its summit or highpoint – that to which all of our actions should ultimately be directed. Christian spirituality, then, is a two-way street. It leads us from the Eucharist as our starting point out into the world of daily life and it takes us back home to the Eucharist after our sojourn in the world” Ignatius Insight, Mark Brumley As St Ignatius prepares to develop a proposal for its future as “church” I want us to explore how we live out our Eucharistic celebrations as our source and our summit. Times of transition are difficult so we need to work to keep our spirituality grounded in becoming more and more the Body of Christ. We need to feed our roots while we seek to grow our new vision. I firmly believe our roots are fed through our communal celebration of the Eucharist. Are there ways to further animate our Masses to support us in our transition time? Would there be better times of day to hold our weekend Masses? How can we invite more parishioners to serve in the many liturgical ministries so that our Masses reflect an inclusive summit experience? To explore these questions I invite you to a meeting on Saturday, November 23. We will hold an English and a Spanish meeting. I especially ask all liturgical ministers to attend this meeting. SAYING, “THANKS” TO THOSE WHO SERVE.
Tomorrow, we celebrate Veterans Day. Originally called Armistice Day it commemorated the signing of the agreement that ended World War I at 11:00 AM, November 11, 1918. In 1954 the name was changed to Veterans Day and became a time to honor all the men and women who have served in the armed forces for our country. St. Ignatius Parish has honored our veterans since the beginning. The Patriot Window features a sailor, a corps man and Lady Liberty. If you read the plaque next to the window you will see that it dedicated to those from St. Ignatius that served in World War I a second plaque was added after World War II. Take time today to thank the veterans in your life for their service. You can also remember them along with the deceased veterans with this prayer:
Dear Lord, Today, we choose to honor our veterans, worthy men and women who gave their all when they were called up to serve and protect our country. We ask Father, that you will bless them for their unselfish service for the dedication that it takes to preserve our freedoms, our safety, and our country’s heritage, for all of us. Please Father, bless them abundantly for the hardships they faced, for the sacrifices they made, for their many contributions to America’s victories over tyranny and oppression. We respect them, we thank the, we honor them, we are proud of the, and we pray that you will watch over these very special people. Bless them with peach and happiness. Amen.
The rectory will be closed tomorrow, November 11 th in observance of Veterans’ Day. Daily mass will be at 8:00am.

Ignatian Services Servicios Ignacianos
Ignatian Services se está preparando para una temporada alta de otoño. El fin de semana pasado recibimos la recompensa de la unidad de comida enlatada del barrio del Ministerio del Campus de Loyola. Ignatian Services is gearing up for a busy fall season. Last weekend we received the bounty from the Loyola Campus Ministry neighborhood canned food drive. During the coming week, students from Sacred Heart Hardy Prep will help sort and stock the donations. We will also be hosting students from North Park University who are psychology majors. They are studying the effects of food insecurity in society. After a brief overview of the pantry the students will help our clients shop and interview them. We are still looking for Friday volunteers, if you are interested please contact Kathy Morris at [email protected]
GIVING TREE Thank you to all who took ornaments from the Giving Tree last weekend. There are still a few ornaments on the tree. If you are able to spend $25 to help a child have a little brighter Christmas, please take an ornament. There is a list of suggested gifts on the back table by the Giving Tree. All gifts should be returned by November 27th .
Annual Thanksgiving Dinner We are taking reservations for our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner to be held in the Holy Name Room on Thanksgiving Day after the 10:00am mass. The dinner is for people who do not want to be alone or are unable to provide dinner for their family. Reservations can be made by calling the rectory at 773-764-5936 and should be made by November 24th.
Volunteers Needed We will be decorating and setting tables in the Holy Name Room on Wednesday, November 27th starting at 6:30 pm. There are a variety of other tasks that are available for all ages. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Kathy Morris at [email protected].
Thanksgiving Day Volunteers There are a limited number of volunteer slots open for individuals looking to help on Thanksgiving morning. If you are available from 10:45 am until 1:00pm and would like to help as kitchen help, serving and clean-up, we could use your help. Contact Kathy Morris at [email protected].
FAITH FORMATION FORMACION DE FE
The Future of DACA Join the Guadalupano on Monday, November 11th at 7:00 pm for a special bilingual liturgy asking for prayers for the future of DACA legislation. Oral arguments will be held by the Supreme Court on Tuesday to decide the fate of this program. The Guadalupano is asking all of us to pray for the Dreamers, their families and for wisdom for the Justices as they wrestle with this legislation.
Confirmation Retreat This year’s Confirmation Retreat will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. The retreat is for all second year Confirmation students in our Religious Education Program and our 7th grade NCA students. All students are expected to attend. Cost for lunch is $10 and will be collected that day.
Reconciliation is offered every Sunday in the chapel. The times are 11:15 am until 11:45 am and 5:15 pm until 5:45 pm. If you need to schedule a different time, please contact the rectory to make an appointment.
