EVENT INFORMATIONTILT AND COUNTER TAVERNThe Tilt and Counter Tavern located on the Main Arena, will be serving delicious meals on Saturday from 12:00pm to 11:00pm and on Sunday from 12:00pm to 6:00pm. Feast on a selection of tasty meats, spiced and flavoured on rolls suitable for the whole family. Manly’s 4 Pines Brewery will be at the Tavern serving two brews specially created for the St Ives Medieval Faire. ‘Gruit’ is a flavoursome beer that’s brewed with herbs for a uniquely different taste. ‘Mead’ is an alcoholic drink from the Middle Ages, a winning combination of fermented honey, water and herbs that will transport you back to the era! Soft drinks are also avail-able at the Tavern, along with ginger beer, pale ale and kolsch. Open Saturday from 12:00pm - 11:00pm and Sunday 12:00pm – 6:00pm

TREBUCHET FIRINGThe Trebuchet is a Medieval siege attack weapon, similar to a cata-pult, which was used for hurling heavy stones to smash castle or city walls during sieges. The Juvenis of Accendo Sarcalogos re-enactment group have meticulously reconstructed a trebuchet and will demonstrate how these massive war machines were used in battle. This is a must-see demonstration which you can see on both Saturday and Sunday at 11am and 3:30pm.

VIKING BATTLEVikings, Anglo-Saxons and Normans have flocked to the Demetria Fair at Thessalonica, in modern day Macedonia. Part of the Byzantine Empire, the city is tightly policed by the Emperor’s mercenaries, the Varangian Guard. The proud western warriors are not at ease with strict imperial rule however, and the more fiercely the guards crack down, the greater the backlash. Do the Western travellers have what it takes to defend themselves and their families from imperial oppression? Will the guard be able to enforce order and keep the local citizens safe from these aggressive foreigners? Find out as these guys hit the main arena at 12:45pm on Saturday and Sunday to battle it out.

BIRDS OF PREY SHOWFull Flight will recreate medieval hunting and falconry to demonstrate how birds of prey were used to hunt in the 15th century. There is also a display throughout the two days of the Faire, where staff will talk to the crowd and explain the finer points of their art. See a unique recreation of a 15th century mounted hunt, where birds will be flown from horse-back at ‘prey’. Look out for the robot rabbit! To marvel at the Birds of Prey Show, make sure you are on the Main Arena at 12:00pm or 2:45pm on Saturday or Sunday.

MEDIEVAL MARKETWant your very own body armour, shields, swords, axes, jewellery, horns or medieval kit? Explore our stalls where there will be a wide range of authentic souvenirs for you to take home. Look out for the live demonstrations too. You will find spinners, hand weavers, blacksmiths and the Leura Bodger, the heritage wood turner, who uses his medieval lathe to create beautiful pieces of art. The Stalls will be open from 10:00am - 5:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.

EVENT INFORMATIONKINGDOM OF HEAVEN TOURNAMENTTo celebrate his impending ascension, and new peace with the Saracens in the Holy Land, in 1229 the heir to the Holy Roman Empire and the Kingdom of Jerusalem has invited the Christian Knights of the Holy Lands to a Round Table and foot joust. The Round Table is an early form of tournament, symbolic of the legendary round table of King Arthur, in which Knights compete in single combat and mass melee. They risk life and limb for the honour of being seated with the King at the celebratory feast and to prove their worth to their new lord. Come watch it all unfold on the Trebuchet Field at 2:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.

KNIGHTS TOURNAMENTIn this fourteenth century style foot tournament, knights in full plate armour will fight on foot, rather than horseback, for the honour and glory. They will take the field dressed in shining armour, identified by their coats of arms – colours and heraldry of their families worn on the chest and back. This is a tournament of peace, where the swords are blunted, and combatants fight to dominate their opponent, but not to kill them. Each comes to prove themselves the bravest and most skillful in the eyes of the assembled witnesses, so be sure to reward the best amongst them with your cheers. Make sure you head over to the Main arena at 2:00pm on Saturday and Sunday to see these brave knights dominate their opponents.

PIKE AND MUSKET DRILLThe Routiers are a band of seventeenth century mercenary pikemen and musketeers who have betrayed their nation to fight for the highest bidder. The latest in infantry tactics is the pike and shot formation – a tight grouping of long ‘pike’ spears and matchlock muskets. With proper training, the pike and shot formation was a fearsome combat unit, but without regular drill, the unwieldy weapons became more of a liability to friend than foe. See the Routiers demonstrate the precise and effective pike and shot drill that made them such valuable mercenaries. This is all happening at 2:45pm on Saturday and Sunday on the Trebuchet Field.

LIVE ARCHERY DEMONSTRATIONSArchery groups will be running archery practice and there will be a traditional archery range with longbow display. Come try your hand and relive the experience of shooting for wild game in forests of old Europe or pretend you’re at Agincourt and feel the thrill of firing your arrow. The live demonstration of archery will be happening right after the Trebuchet firing on Saturday and Sunday at 11:40am.
