Sharing Our Saints As our Confirmation candidates near their Confirmation day on January 6th, Gavin Davis (Level 6) would like to share a little bit about his Saint that he has chosen for his journey. This week he shares about the life of St. Maximilion Kolbe…

“St. Maximilion Kolbe was born in Poland on January 8th, 1894. At the age of 12, Maximilion (born Raymond) saw a vision of Mary. In the vision, she was holding two crowns, a white one and a red one. Mary said ‘The white one means purity and the red one means you will be a martyr, which do you chose?’ Maximilion then said, ‘I choose both.’ He then became a Franciscan. During WWI, Maximilian harbored more than 2,000 Jews at his monastery, in result of that, he was sent to Auschwitz. In Auschwitz, a man with a family was condemned to death and Maximilian took his place. Maximilian never gave up his priesthood throughout Auschwitz. Fr. Maximilian Kolbe was canonized by Pope John Paul II on October 10, 1982.”
