From the Pastor’s Desk DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PARROCO PRAYERS FOR THE POOR SOULS – At the doors of the church are special holy cards with a prayer for the Poor Souls in Purgatory. Please take one and remember to say this prayer each day. It is a Christian duty to pray for the repose of the souls of our deceased brothers and sisters. Here is what our Holy Father said in regards to the Feasts of All Saints and All Souls: “Dear friends, how beautiful and comforting is the communion of Saints! It is a reality that instills a different dimension into our whole life. We are never alone! We are part of a spiritual ‘company’ where profound solidarity reigns: the good of each one is for the benefit of everyone, and vice versa, common hap-piness shines on every individual. It is a mystery which, in some measure, we can already experience in this world, in the family, in friendship, and especially in the spiritual community of the Church. May Mary Most Holy help us to walk quickly on the way to holiness, and may she be the Mother of mercy for the souls of the departed.”
FINANCIAL REPORT – Included as an insert in this week’s bulletin is our parish Financial Report for the fiscal year 2016-17 which ended on June 30, 2017. Thankfully, our parish is on a strong financial footing. We are cer-tainly not rich, by any stretch of the imagination, but we have been able to pay all our bills as well as continue to make improvements to our parish plant. However, our staffing levels have remained low since we made drastic cutbacks in early 2008. Since then we have not added any new staffing and have kept personnel costs as low as pos-sible. Our other expenses, however, such as insurance (which is a huge expense) have continued to rise. We thank all the families and individuals who have returned pledges for our increased offertory program. Please prayerfully consider how you would like to give back to God from what He has given to you of your time, talent, and treasure. Sincerely in Christ and St. John Chrysostom,

ORACIONES PARA LAS POBRES ALMAS DEL PUR-GATORIO - En las puertas de la iglesia hay estampas espe-ciales con una oración para las pobres almas del Purgatorio. Por favor, tome una y recuerde decir esta oración todos los días. Es un deber cristiano el orar por el eterno descanso de las almas de nuestros hermanos y hermanas difuntos. He aquí lo que dijo nuestro Santo Padre con respecto a las fiestas de To-dos los Santos y los Fieles Difuntos: "Queridos amigos, lo hermoso y reconfortante es la comunión de los santos! Es una realidad que infunde una dimensión diferente en toda nuestra vida. Nunca estamos solos! Somos parte de una ‘compañía’ espiritual donde reina una profunda solidaridad: el bien de cada uno es para el beneficio de todos, y viceversa, la felicidad común brilla en cada individuo. Es un misterio que, en alguna medida, ya podemos experimentar en este mundo, en la fami-lia, en la amistad, y sobre todo en la comunidad espiritual de la Iglesia. Que María Santísima nos ayude a caminar rápidamente en el camino a la santidad, y que sea la Madre de Misericordia para las almas de los difuntos.”
INFORME FINANCIERO - Incluido como un volante en el boletín de esta semana es nuestro informe financiero parro-quial para el año fiscal 2016-17 que terminó el 30 de junio de 2017. Afortunadamente, nuestra parroquia se encuentra en una fuerte base financiera. No somos ricos, pero hemos sido capaces de pagar todas nuestras deudas, así como continuar realizando arre-glos en la parroquia. Sin embargo, los nive-les de empleados se han mantenido bajos desde que hicimos recortes drásticos a principios del 2008. Desde entonces no hemos añadido ningunas nuevas posiciones y los gastos de los empleados se han mantenido lo mas bajo posible. Los demás gastos, sin embargo, como el seguro (que es un gasto enorme) han seguido aumentando. Le agradecemos a todas las familias y individuos que han devuelto sus prome-sas para nuestro nuevo programa de ofertorio. Por favor, consi-dere en oración cómo le gustaría devolver a Dios por lo que le ha dado de su tiempo, talento y tesoro.

Here at St. John Chrysostom’s we have Baptisms every first and third Saturday in Spanish and every second and fourth Saturday of the month in English. In order to encourage parents to baptize their children as soon as possible, which is what the law of the Church desires, all fees will be waived when a baby is presented for Baptism within the first month of his birth. The Church teaches that a child should be baptized as soon as possible after birth so please stop by the rectory to register your baby for Baptism two months before the due date. That way, after the birth, the baptism is already scheduled.

Aquí en San Juan Crisóstomo tenemos Bautizos cada primer & tercer sábado en español y el segundo y cuarto sábado del mes en inglés. November begins Black Catholic History Month which was designated in 1990 by the National Black Catholic Clergy. November was selected because of the following dates:
November 1: All Saints Day November 2: All Souls Day
November 13: The Birth of St. Augustine (354 A.D.)
Black Catholic History began in the Acts of the Apostles (8:26-40) with the conversion of the Ethiopian Eunuch by Philip the Deacon. The Eunuch is the first Black person in recorded Christian history. Each week in the bulletin, a dif-ferent Black saint will be highlighted with a brief biography
