He is 76 years old and the first Latin American Pope and the first Pope from the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). He has taken the name Francis in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. Please pray for our new Pope and all the challenges he faces.

I would like to take time to thank all the parishioners who donated to our 6th grade PSR service project. I would also like to thank the parents and students who participated on Saturday afternoon packing 24 boxes for our deployed service members. Finally, thank you to Victoria, Sandy, Jennifer, Father Sherlock and Christy Peters for helping. This project was a huge success and will bring a little bit of home to them and will bring a smile to some of our brave service members. Thanks, TerriAnn Graves, 6th Grade PSR.

Archbishop Schnurr wishes everyone at St. John a blessed Easter and thanks all parishioners who have made a gift to the 2013 Catholic Ministries Appeal. Because we are “Living Generously in a Year of Faith,” the joy and hope of the Risen Lord are being shared with thousands of people across our Archdiocese all year long through the six critically important continuing and new ministries the CMA makes possible. For more information, please visit CatholicAppeal.info.

Over 50s News:The Over 50s will be going to lunch on Wednesday, April 3, at 11:30 a.m., at Red Lobster in Piqua. We will meet at 11:00 in the north parking lot at church to car-pool. All parishioners 50 years and older are welcome and encouraged to join us.

Adult Faith Formation Corner“For by the sacrifice of his own body, Christ did two things: he put an end to the law of death which barred our way, and he made a new beginning of life for us, by giving us the hope of resurrection.” St. Athanasius “Christ is risen. Indeed, he is risen.” What joyous words are these! Imagine Mary Magdalene’s joy when she realized Christ stood before her. But Jesus encouraged her not to hold onto Him, but to spread the good news to the other disciples. The joyful gift of the resurrection is personal to each one of us. It is not to be kept to ourselves, but to be shared with others. So let us go forth this Easter Sunday and proclaim the truth of the resurrection, not only with words but with our lives.

Alleluia! During the past six weeks, our parish community has prayed, fasted and given alms with a special focus on the poorest members of our global community. Our lives were touched by stories from Burkina Faso, East Timor, Lesotho, Dominican Republic, Pakistan and the United States. Through our Lenten prayers and donations, we have touched the lives of millions of people served by Catholic Relief Services, our representative to the poorest communities in the world. Please return your Rice Bowl to the parish office. Thank you for your generosity.

Conley, Tara Laudick, and Irene Nutter will all three be confirmed and will join us at the Lord’s Table for the first time. With joy, we welcome them into our faith community. Please join us for a brief reception in the gathering space after the Easter Vigil Mass to welcome them. Their journey as fully initiated members of the Catholic Church is only beginning. They will begin this journey by meeting for a few more weeks for the period of mystagogia. This period is a time for reflection on the celebration and mysteries of the Sacraments, for deepening the Christian experience, for spiritual growth, and for entering more fully into the life and unity of the community. Please keep our neophytes (new converts) in your prayers.

Rediscover Catholicism Follow-Up – You may remember that the book, Rediscover Catholicism, was passed out as a gift from Archbishop Schnurr at all the Christmas Masses. Discussion will follow after the DVD presentation. If you haven’t read the book, please come anyway! You don’t need to have read the book to enjoy the DVD and discussion! Rediscover Catholicism and The Seven Pillars of Catholic Spirituality will inspire you to live life to the fullest, encourage you to act purposefully, and direct you to a deeper relationship with Christ during this Year of Faith.
