with Fr. Bob Kwiatkowski, Deacon Bob Palotti, Gigi Frailey and Laurie Janecko

You are invited to consider joining Fr. Bob and team for this awesome opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Jesus on a pilgrimage to the HOLY LAND. Among many other things we are excited to see the newly discovered ancient city of Magdala with its first century synagogue. The approximate cost of the trip is $4,100.00 per person which includes: land and air trans-portation, hotels, meals, and entrance fees to all sites. Deadline for registration is June 29th. Final payment due on August 10th. Select International Tours website (selectinternationaltours.com) has detailed information about our trip. Questions may be directed to Gigi Frailey at St. Peter Claver Parish Office at 860-561-4235.

THOUGHT WHEN CELEBRATING JULY 4TH - FREEDOM CONSISTS NOT IN DOING WHAT WE LIKE, BUT IN HAVING

THE RIGHT TO DO WHAT WE OUGHT.

- ST. JOHN PAUL II

First Reading

According to the Jewish sage, "God did not make death." How then did death enter into the world, according to Wisdom? Second Reading

Paul encourages the wealthier Christians in Corinth to help the needy in the community out of their abundance. In what ways do you live by this spiritual practice? Gospel Reading

We hear two healing miracles in today's Gospel reading, both of which connect one's faith to healing. When has your faith led to healing?

Parish News The Father Loftus Council, Knights of Columbus,

recently conducted its 20th Annual Summer Slam

Against Hunger. Knights worked four area grocery

stores and in total collected over 6000 pounds of food, which has

been distributed to four local food banks: Middlebury, Water-

town, Woodbury, and St. Vincent de Paul. People at all the

stores were extremely generous, sometimes coming out with 5

bags of food and keeping just one for themselves!

The council wishes to thank the following Knights who made the

drive such a success: Arnold and Josh Nordby and grandson

Liam Moity, Nick Corsi and grandson Nathaniel Zem-

bruski, Clint Greatorex, Bob Eddy, Bob Cappelletti, George

Gabrielson, John Kotchian, Terry Smith, Jorge Dias, Jack

McCasland, Joe Hanggi, Derrick Dumoulin and son Marcus,

Mike McVerry, Pat Dwyer, Al Ulozas, Tom Sherk, Bob

Ranaldo, John Posa, Dave Wiliams, Tom Gormley, Jim Roy, and

Frank Mirovsky.

The St. John of the Cross Annual Back-to-

School Collection will be held throughout the month of July. Acts 4 Ministry collects

and distributes Uniform Tops (white, blue

[any shade], black or grey), and Uniform Bottoms (khaki,

navy, black and grey) size 6 and higher, to needy children in

the Waterbury area. They also collect school accessories such as

book bags, lunch bags, rulers, folders and writing tools. You can leave your donations in the basket at the entrance of the Church

or in Father Fanning Hall. Thanks!

On July 15th sixteen teens will be going on a mission trip

My Summer Prayer As I begin the summer months,

gracious and loving Jesus,

remind me of your ever present

guidance and love.

Give me confidence in Your presence,

remembering all that I have been

taught this year and let me

live it in my summer experiences.

As I work, play and enjoy

my family and friends this summer, may I feel Your love within me,

guiding me toward all

that is right and just.

Let me be grateful for the gift

of summer, Jesus. Allow me to

enjoy it safely and remind

me daily of Your love for me. Amen.

Readings for the Week

Respect Life

Live the Liturgy - Inspiration for the Week

God does not rejoice in our demise or our destruction. Rather,

He made us in His image and desires that we have life. He also

desires that we be healed and know His loving touch. There is

great power in an embrace. The touch of another can heal

wounds and restore life. There is also power in faith. Faith can

turn us toward the truth and turn us toward God. God can pro-

foundly change how we see Him, ourselves, and one another.

God desires that we turn toward Him and be healed of all that

wounds and binds us so that we can be free and enjoy the full-

ness life. Reach out and share your faith with someone this

week so that they can receive God's life-changing embrace.

Jesus often spoke of the widows and orphans, the

“have not’s” of society, whose well being depended

on the compassion and generosity of oth-

ers. Our Lord made it clear to His fol-

lowers; it is not enough to tell people

who lack the basic necessities of life that

they are loved. If someone is hungry and we can feed

him, or homeless and we can provide shelter, then as

Christians we muse. Unborn children are certainly

among the “have not’s” of contemporary society. We
