The Epiphany of the Lord
"Then they opened their treasures andoffered him gifts of gold, frankincense, andmyrrh." What a wonderful example the Magigive us in their visit to the infant Jesus. First ofall, they demonstrate profound faith in God'sword, spoken through the prophet Micah: "Andyou, Bethlehem ... from you shall come a rulerwho is to shepherd my people Israel" (cf. 5:2).Embarking on a long and difficult journey, theytrust that they will find this newborn king of theJews in Bethlehem as the prophecy announced.On their arrival at the home of the Holy Family,the Magi also give us an example of profoundhumility. These important men, to whom kingslook for guidance and advice, do not hesitate tobow down, to "prostrate themselves" and givehomage to a tiny babe. Putting their ownposition out of their minds, they reverentlyworship the infant Lord even as he sits on thelap of his mother.
The generosity of these three "kings" isalso evident as they open their treasure boxesand give to the poor child the richest of gifts.Traditionally, we understand the gold tosymbolize the earthly kingship of Christ, thefrankincense to represent his divinity, and themyrrh to stand as a symbol of the anointing hewill receive upon his death.
Finally, the wisdom of these men isevident in their decision to return to theircountry "by another way." Understanding thethreat that King Herod posed to Jesus, theyfollowed a plan that would help keep the divinechild safe even though it meant inconvenienceto themselves.
Faith, humility, generosity, and wisdom.These gifts are the real legacy of the ThreeKings. Today, let us ask God for the blessing of
having these gifts in our lives.

La Epifanía del Señor
Estamos ya en la fiesta de la Epifanía
que es una profundización de la fiesta de la
Navidad. En Navidad celebramos el Nacimiento
del Señor, anunciado a los pastores por los
ángeles, mientras que la Epifanía, es la
proclamación de ese Nacimiento ante el
mundo, manifestado a los magos de Oriente
que buscaban al Niño Rey recién nacido. Jesús
nace para todo el mundo. Cristo es
verdaderamente el corazón del mundo. iCon
su manifestación todos sin excepción alguna
somos llamados a la salvación!
El Papa Francisco en la homilía del 6 de
enero de 2014 da el siguiente mensaje: "En
esta fiesta de la Epifanía, que nos recuerda lamanifestación de Jesús a la humanidad en el
rostro de un Niño, sintamos cerca a los Magos,
como sabios compañeros de camino. Su
ejemplo nos anima a levantar los ojos a laestrella y a seguir los grandes deseos denuestro corazón. Nos enseñan a nocontentarnos con una vida mediocre, de 'pococalado', sino a dejarnos fascinar siempre por labondad, la verdad, la belleza... por Dios, que estodo eso en modo siempre mayor. Y nosenseñan a no dejarnos engañar por lasapariencias, por aquello que para el mundo esgrande, sabio, poderoso.
No nos podemos quedar ahí...Tenemosque ir más allá... ir hacia Belén, allí donde en lasencillez de una casa de la periferia, entre unamamá y un papá llenos de amor y de fe,resplandece el Sol que nace de lo alto, el Reydel universo. A ejemplo de los Magos, connuestras pequeñas luces busquemos la Luz".iSea luz de Belén!
