Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
"For I was hungry and you gave mefood, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a
stranger and you welcomed me, naked and
you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in
prison and you visited me." Jesus insists that
in ministering to others' physical needs, we
are truly serving him. "Whatever you did forone of the least brothers of mine, you did for
me," he tells us. And in a similar way, what we
fail to do for them, we fail to do for Christ:
"What you did not do for one of these leastones, you did not do for me." This means thatwe have been given both a gift and a task. Thegift is the chance to encounter Christ in ourbrothers and sisters. The task is to be sure wedon't neglect the encounter.
The corporal works of mercy provideus with a kind of guide for how to live out thisimportant mission from Christ. These worksinclude feeding the hungry, giving drink to thethirsty, clothing the naked, sheltering thehomeless, visiting the sick and the imprisoned,and burying the dead. Based on the words ofJesus in today's Gospel, it's an important partof the Christian life to look for ways to engagein these kinds of bodily ministries.Traditionally, these "corporal" works arecomplemented by a set of "spiritual" works.The spiritual works of mercy ensure that wedon't minister to the body at the expense ofthe soul. They include admonishing the sinner,instructing the ignorant, counseling thedoubtful, comforting the sorrowful, bearingwrongs patiently, forgiving all injuries, andpraying for the living and the dead. Byengaging in these diverse works of mercy, weserve others, love Jesus, and hope to "inheritthe kingdom prepared for [us] from thefoundation of the world."

el grito unánime que escucharemos en
nuestras parroquias este domingo. Con esta
solemnidad terminamos el año litúrgico del
Ciclo A. El próximo domingo iniciamos con el
Adviento el nuevo año litúrgico del Ciclo B.
Hemos caminado de la mano del Evangelista
Mateo y hoy como culmen de ese ciclo se nospresenta a Cristo, Señor del tiempo y de la
historia. Todos caminamos hacia esa meta del
encuentro del Señor. La Eucaristía de este
domingo debe ser muy festiva, motivándonos,
y nos esmeramos en el arreglo de flores,
música adornos, cantos, vestiduras litúrgicas,
el incienso y la alegría de nuestros corazones.
Esta fiesta fue instituida por el Papa PíoXI en 1925, ante la descristianización que sufría
Europa después de la Primera Guerra Mundial.Y ahora, ¿como vemos a Jesús en nuestrasociedad? ¿En qué forma estamosdescristianizados? El Papa Francisco en suhomilía del 24 de marzo de 2013 nos ayuda areflexionar sobre Jesús para nuestro tiempo."¿Qué tipo de rey es Jesús? Mirémoslo:montado en un pollino, no tiene una corte quelo sigue, no está rodeado por un ejército,símbolo de fuerza. Quien lo acoge es gentehumilde, sencilla, que tiene el sentido de veren Jesús algo más". ¿Cuál es la relación entremi simplicidad y la habilidad de aceptar aJesús? ¿Qué es lo que Jesús me pide que deje aun lado para recibirlo a él? ¿Dónde está mihumildad que me lleve a parecerme a Jesús? Lafiesta de hoy nos sorprende. Nuestro Rey eshumilde; pidámosle que nos enseñe a servir alos demás como él, en toda su realeza, nossirve y da consuelo.
